on ESPN shortly ago, he said when O'Neill was summoned to meet with Philbin, Aponte, and Hickey in Indy where they abruptly fired him, Aponte asked him if he had anything to say and his response was "talk to my lawyer". so we can assume he might be filing some sort of lawsuit against the team.

but even more important, Mort said he spoke with people close to O'Neill and he was told O'Neill actually told management about the harassment. When asked if that included Philbin, Mort said he didn't know. Now why O'Neill refused to cooperate with the investigation is anyone's guess, but I don't see this mess going away anytime soon.

There were orders from the commissioner and the owner to fully corporate with the investigation, not doing so could be a firable offense don't ya think?

hmm this could get tricky could be they told him not to talk then blamed it on him and fired him. So now hes like o yeah well i told them the whole time so talk to my lawyers. Could explain why he got fired at the combine maybe he felt they were trying to dump it all on him so he started to fight back.

    The sky is falling.

Losing Kevin O'Neil is pretty big. He was one of the best if not the best athletic trainer in the NFL. When you think about the lack of injuries we have had on the OL and DL these past two year's, I'd attribute a good bit of that to O'Neil. We'll see, but my guess is this loss will be felt along the starting OL and DL.

Incompetent ownership trickles down and becomes incompetent management. This is the result.

If something actually comes of this, it will be a big deal.

Until then, it could just be the angry outburst of a terminated employee. Plenty of people have shouted "You'll hear from my attorney!!!!", without ever actually going through with it

WOW, holding the trainer responsible for not policing players.....only in Miami. Guess we need a trainer to keep players in line, thought we had a Head Coach and Assistants for that, guess we have an interesting management structure.

The Dolphins are making the Titanic appear to be a successful pleasure cruise with plenty of ice for cocktails.

Some of you guys want Dan Marino to step in on this?

Well that is a bit of an overkill. Dolphins will be around in 2014 and beyond. Also worst thing that can happen here is Ross loses some money.

Kevin O'Niell would have had credibility if he had co-operated with the investigation.

His testimony now is going to be treated as suspect, because he is a disgruntled ex-employee who was fired for non co-operation with a serious investigation into malfeasance.
If he had reported the harassment to management through the proper channels there should be a clear paper trail, which would have been discovered by Wells.

The only way his version of things could be treated with credibility would be if there is some form of written notes that were made at the time. I personally doubt that such notes exist because if he had shown them to the Wells investigation he immediately becomes a good guy in this mess.

I watched a fair amount of the NFL Network today and endured repetitive report after another about the Martin/Cogs fiasco. Other coaches were asked about it.

I thought well, lets get thru this and it will start to blow over......Not so fast, cant have that.

If this initial report grows balls, we lose a head coach and will not have a real one until 2015.

I believe the O'Neil firing and backlash to the NFL will cause bigger sanctions from the Commish against the Dolphins. This will cost Ross some money and . Aponte screwed up; and Goddell is basically a goon who suspended Sean Payton for a year for less than what's going on now.

This is probably a classic case of "disgruntled former employee" but there is indeed something very strange about how the O'Neill situation unfolded.

I find it odd that he was fired at the combine. If the franchise was really invested in helping him network with other teams, they probably would have fired him beforehand and made separate arrangements for him to be in Indy in order to allow him the opportunity to prepare himself, as opposed to cutting him loose at the offseason media mecca. Firing him at the combine almost feels like it was unplanned, as if it were a hasty reactionary decision to something that happened in Indy.

I also find it quite odd that he did not cooperate with Wells. Surely he would have known that failure to cooperate would result in trouble for him, but he stuck to his guns anyway. Either he's loyal to a fault, he's lying about telling management, or he was told to keep quiet.

This also makes the most sense when you consider the ridiculous assertion being made by Philbin that despite the frequency with which the rampant harassment was happening to multiple people, he was completely unaware of the situation despite the fact that Incognito was reportedly unaware of when he was actually even crossing a line. How is it that Philbin never heard, or saw, a single incident from a very high-profile member of the team who appears to have had no barometer on when/where to act like a fool. Philbin expects us to believe that for two years Richie acted like a saint in front of him, and then a monster behind closed doors?

I find the words of a former employee hard to believe, but I find Philbin's BS even harder to believe. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if this were actually true. I'd bet money that Philbin is lying through his teeth.

well, let's see.. when Aponte told him he didn't need a lawyer that was what? 4 months ago? if there are sanctions beyond what is in play then that would come back to bite Goodell since he was the one pushing Ross to fire O'Niell. Sean Payton was suspended because Goodell told the organization that they were aware of the bounties and were told to stop. they didn't so Goodell landed hard on them.

During the same segment where Mort dropped this bombshell, Bill Polian chimed in and said it's common for terminated employees to obtain the services of a lawyer. We'll have to wait and see if this story gains any traction. So far, not seeing anyone else report anything other than the original comment by Mort.

Bullygate is a drop in the bucket compared to Bountygate. Don't forget that they were warned to stop the practice and persisted, plus they circumvented the salary cap which always a big no no.

So, let me get this straight.

The man was being uncooperative with the investigation. But now that he's fired, he wants to say that reported the activities?

    Yeah, suuuuuure.

From the NFL's perspective Miami has done everything right since they story broke.

    1) They asked NFL to do the Wells report
    2) They suspended Incognito when they got the information about bullying
    3) They fired Turner and O'Neil that were not cooperative with the NFL investigator and were pointed out in the report.

When Aponte said that for all we know she had no idea that he was going to be fired.

This also distracts from Ray Rice knocking out his fiance and Sharper being a multiple rapist.

Apparently according to Hyde there was a huge amount of pressure from the league to terminate O'Neill. So that could explain the poor timing of the firing.

What is even more humorous, to me, is the way ppl are so tied to the news cycle they buy anything, jump off a cliff, and await the next chance to jump over..wait for it..a story that was proven mostly a media creation in the first place.

Trained like dogs in a way..woof woof

We have far larger problems then this, mainly the FA on defense and the need to rebuild the OL, those are important issues to our future success.

The same media who is petting the doggy of course ignores the Seahawks PED scandal, an actual scandal involving the regime that just won the SB
