O'neill was fired because he DIDNT COOPERATE with a fact finding Interview. He was fired legally. He's not a scapegoat, he was involved too. Jesus, the dolphins should be villified for the timing of the firing, but not because of it. He WAS VERY MUCH IN THE WRONG.

And what he's allegedly saying now, that he did indeed report the inappropriate ethnic harassment up the chain, seems calculated in light of the FACT that he didn't cooperate with the Wells investigation. There was nothing in potentially telling Wells of his reporting the offenses that would have violated any medical confidentiality laws nor ethics.

Agreed. Seriously...sit down with the guy, tell him you dont want to violate the trust of the players, but, you reported things and to please check it out. If he reported something, it's in writing, i can GUARANTEE that. Then you kindly ask that until Wells has all the info, you dont want to answer any questions. Dont just fricken walk out because you feel like you did nothing wrong you shouldnt be interrogated.

If you own up and you admit you blew it, you'll be disciplined, but probably not fired.
It you lie to the investigators and try to cover something up, you get the death penalty.
It's like that in every organization.

Its too bad that this can't just be over and go away so we can concentrate on football. I just don't think it will be going away anytime soon, it will drag on into the season.

the firings were the end of it, but there nothing else for the media to talk about and they gotta report something to merit their job title.

ESPN is also vehemently attacking the dolphins over this. Schlereth and Bruschi did a segment today and the two jackasses just went on and on and on about it. Schlereth was acting like Martin was his son he seemed so distraught. Bruschi of course just went on about how the all mighty Belicheck would have never let this happen. Clayton said Philbin has no control over the situation. Mort says Philbin looks uncomfortable.

I don't get how every single person on the network can share the same opinion. Not even trying to hide a bias there.

IF Dave Hyde's source is telling the full and complete truth about how Kevin O'Neill handled the taunting of Noahisa Inoue, then I have zero problem with how he handled it. That is exactly how it should have been handled. Exactly.

And I think he's got a point about his non-cooperation with Wells, an independent third party. O'Neill can make the case that Wells was asking him for privileged information.

I could see not wanting to risk blurring the lines between the locker room antics, and psychological conditions of Martin. The lines could run into each other there, in which the medical oath could be infringed upon. I could see blowing off an outside, non-legal investigation like this.

At this point, if I were Ross, there is one easy and clear thing to do. Ride Regis out this one more year. Fire his *** once he goes 0-5 out of the gates next sept which he probably will, and once you have a vacancy, you let it be known to Jim Harbaugh that you have an entire block in Manhattan with his name on it as compensation. You get a winner in here FOR ONCE. You fire Hickey or whoever. Get this stink off the team. Offer Gamble the same. There's a path to getting it done down the road. Grab ankles in 2014. We're in for some **** anyway.

Teddy has a short memory. According to the Rolling Stone article Belicheck handled the whole Hernandez affair way worse than Philbin did Martin.

O'Neill didn't get fired for how he handled the Inoue incident, he got fired for not cooperating with the investigation. It sounds to me like the Dolphins didn't want to fire him and probably thought they could keep him which is why they flew him to the combine but the NFL kept pressuring and they had no choice. I read in another article that they fired him as soon as the decision was made for fear of word getting out. The article presumed the leak would be from within the Dolphin organization and went on to bash the dis-functionality of the FO but maybe they were worried about a leak for the NFL.

But in the end O'Neill made his bed by not cooperating and I don't by the HIPAA excuse, Inoue isn't a patient, he's O'Neill's subordinate.

As most here have said, this is about his not cooperating with the investigation, nothing more. He's threatening something because he wants to clear his name, not necessarily because he suddenly developed a conscious and remembered reporting some issue or another to Philbin/whoever above him. The trainers are the tie between mgmt and players in every facility. They are closest to the players, not the coaching/mgmt staff. Time for him to slink off to wherever he ends up next. He's very good at what he does, as his profession goes, but he's just as scummy as Martin and Incognito have been in this whole situation...

As to HIPPA, he's not a doctor...that pretty much says it all. Now, if he slips information about about players (since he likely has full availability of that info), the organization is liable in a court of law, not Kevin O'Niell...

Would have been nice if J.Mart handled Incog the same way the assistant trainer did. Amazing what opening your mouth can actually do.

We do not know exactly how O'Neill came to the point of "non-cooperation". O'Neill may have stated why. Wells could of asked, "so is that the end of your cooperation?"

And reported it that way. We do not know. But we do know the NFL gets its way no matter what. They say jump and you better do it.

Why do you want to get rid of Joe, is it because that is the in thing and everyone else is saying the same thing? He was 7 - 9 then 8 -8, he is improving, the head coach and GM didn't see eye to eye, we now have a GM that may work well with Joe, let's see what happens for at least a year. Everyone wanted him to be nominated for coach of the year when we were sitting 8 - 6, then came the last 2 games, now everyone wants him canned. I wish this entire fiasco would go away and let the free agency period begin, that is including all of the BS that the media is talking about. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, we will be the talk of the off season unless someone else does something stupid.

Out of everyone involved in this mess including Ross, Philbin, Incognito, Martin etc, the person with the longest and best track record in the NFL is O'Neill.

I'd keep him and get rid of those 4 clowns.

But JMart's coach (Turner) didn't pull him aside as an authority figure and ask how he wanted them to handle this.

I am no JMart fan, at all… but to make your comparison fair, the assistant didn't have to overcome his fear of looking like a snitch and breaking ranks by seeking O'Neil out himself.

For the record, I think Philbin himself could probably be more proactive in that regard too, in general. He strikes me as a guy who definitely does not go looking for the uncomfortable conversations that need to be had. Instead, he can't wait to get guys out of his office to end the awkwardness.

this mess would go away quicker if Ross wasn't so inept at firing the entre guilty party instead of cleaning house like the media and Nfl seems to be pushing for. Mr Ross seems to drag his feet especially with Ireland .

the media would shut up if Ross would just blow the thing up and get rid of the cancer.

as for Philbin he too is at fault his team may have improve a little bit but going 7-9 isn't worth suffering through this damn crap.
