After today, Matthews looks like a 1st rounder too if he wasn't before. Lee disappointed. Martavis Bryant would be nice in the 2nd, I think he's worked himself up. I am also impressed with Kevin Norwood and Bruce Ellington.
With Matthews production in college and combine it would be a shame if he isn't a 1st round pick. Hell, I don't think I would mind if we took Matthews with our pick too much. That being said, he strikes me as a WR that will fall into the 2nd round for unknown reasons (probably because people don't know if he could develop into a #1 guy or will always be a great #2), at which point the Packers will somehow walk away with him...
a steal in the 3rd round could be brandon thomas, the guard out of clemson. 6'3, 317, 5.09 dash, 35 reps of 225. plus, scouts say that he looked like the next best offensive lineman at the senior bowl other than zach martin. i'd be really pleased if we walked away with zach martin, bishop sankey, and brandon thomas. sankey is strong as hell (26 reps). strongest rb, plus 4.4 speed. i dig it.
As much love as Mike Evans is getting I think Kelvin Benjamin has had an even more impressive combine. I still like Evans better as a prospect, but hot damn running a 4.53 with 13 reps at 6'5 and 240 is absurd. Comparing the two this is what you get: Height: Push Weight: +9 pounds (Benjamin) Arm length: +2/8 inch (Evans) Hands: +5/8 inch (Benjamin) Bench Press: +1 rep (Benjamin) 40 yard dash: -0.06 (Evans) Should be interesting to watch these two battle it out in the remaining drills. Benjamin solidified himself as a 1st round pick in my eyes. Also I think you can already see why scouts are calling this draft the best one in the last 10 years. There is A LOT of talented players.
Walterfootball.com has them for now but I wouldn't take it as gospel just yet. At least though its something.
I have to get a better look I guess. Also disagree on Benjamin having a more impressive Combine than Evans. Evans a 37 inch vert, Benjamin a 32 inch. Evans way more explosive on tape and otherwise.
We'll never get a sniff of him w/out trading up, but I really like him. Actually, if he fell to us not sure we should take him depending on who else is on the board b/c of need, but I really like his aggressiveness and the physical tools are just crazy good.
I posted that before the verts came out and before the 40 times were adjusted. Benjamin is now at a 4.61 while Evans is at a 4.53. On tap there isn't a question who is better I love the mentality that Evans plays with. It's been a while since I've seen a WR with such a strong "the ball is mine" when its up in the air near him.
I don't know how he stacks up in your eyes, but I imagine he's a 4th rounder as a best case scenario and that's the longest of long shots probably (and anything before the 5th would surprise the hell out of me). I know he's small, and I didn't see him in anything except the 40 so I don't know if he tested well today, but he always made plays when it mattered the past two years when I watched Michigan.
I already posted this somewhere, courtesy of @FirstRoundGrade https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...zhPckREX3NQd0dQTGc&f=true&noheader=true&gid=2
NFL.com adjusted them and updated it on their combine coverage portion of the website. Mike Evans went from a 4.47 to a 4.53, Benjamin went from a 4.53 to a 4.61.
I'm loving Tre Mason's combine so far. Anyone know why he didn't lift? I feel like he would be a beast there too.
Wow, wondering if Clowney is going to end up being a big clown when it's all said and done. 21 reps and he weighs 266? That's pathetic. I don't believe he has the heart to be great. Being a freak isn't enough gut I guess time will tell.
Well you were the first one to tell me I was wrong about Allen Robinson and I eventually came over to your way of thinking, so Gallon is someone I'll definitely have to see.
I think a 4.45 is about right. I didn't bet on him over Black Mamba because I felt I'd seen 4.3's on tape. He's much more explosive than purely fast. I bet on him over Black Mamba because I found stuff talking about him definitely running in the 4.3's while I also found stuff from Black Mamba's own RB Coach talking about how his 40 time is never going to be as good as LaMichael James' but on the field he's quicker and faster. LaMichael James ran between a 4.35 and 4.40 (which of course was slower in "official" terms). Therefore I took a chance at +150 odds and lost by 0.01 seconds.
The broad and vert numbers are sick and explain how he's able to do what he does, imo. I don't think that much of RB 40 times so long as their quickness and/or lower-body explosion checks out. He works tight spaces incredibly well - patient and setting people up with that cool gear-changing style he runs with. He's so smart and sudden with his pace and burst. You can do that when your lower body has that kind of explosiveness we saw in the drills. I mean, he emerges from small areas like a shot; I remember a run where he was almost at a standstill and then his lane opened slightly and he was gone (will try to find it). That unique/dynamic style is really fun to watch.
Tre Mason and Lache Seastrunk are and have been my top tier at the position. They're 1st round guys although I'd probably steer toward later 1st round. Still the only guy that compares to them in terms of pure uniqueness is Jeremy Hill. Although I really do have to re-view Andre Williams' tape now in light of his blowing up at the Combine. His production and tape was always GOOD. It's a matter of how good. The explosive metrics he put up at his size...makes you take a look again.
Mike Loyko @NEPD_Loyko 8h According to @ScottHanson 17 WR have run sub 4.4 40s at the combine in the last decade.. only ONE has had a 1,000 yard rec. season in NFL.
True but I've heard about 30 names who "won't be there at 19" Someone has to be. You figure at least two QBs, Clowney, Watkins, and 2-3 lineman alone. That is 7 right there. There will be plenty of talent available.
He clarified it to five years. Jones' time was an official 4.41, according to Hanson. Leaving only Wallace.
He still has a pro day to redeem himself but when all the talk is that the punter is stronger than you... that's no good... and to put it in perspective Mario Williams had 35 reps.
Decade is a long time. And I'm not sure about tossing around the word "deepest" either. I just know it's been a while since I felt pretty good about four 1st round guys. Might be the first time that's ever happened for me.
Haven't seen much tape on him (other than the UF game), but Jerick McKinnon of Georgia Southern also put on a show at the combine. Out of the 4 drills the HBs have done he never finished worse than 2nd. 5'9 and 209 4.41 forty 32 reps 40.5 inch vertical 132 inch broad jump
I love the way Seastrunk runs the football. He seems to have a knack for getting out of jams as well. But, surprised he ran a 4.51 at only 201 lbs. (that's a bit small for a RB who is not a 4.3 burner). He does show good game speed. Because of the way RBs are these days (unless you feel you have a Lynch out there) I would slot all the RBs this year in round 2. Mason is right up there - but he also had a ton of open space with Auburn so that can be deceptive. That said, I like him at the top of round 2 (or either of these guys at the bottom of round 1 for a good playoff team that needs a RB).
Just heard that Hyde pulled up at the end of his 40; he felt a little hamstring twinge. That makes me happy (Buckeye homer) that he can hopefully run a better time at his pro day. He ran a 4.66 at the combine. True about that. I really think there can be an exciting player there at 19, but not sure we don't go for Martin or similar as opposed to exciting.
Clowney with 4.47 unofficial and 1.56 10-yard. Donald with 4.64 unofficial, 1.59 10-yard. Donald is in Clowney's getoff range. Awesome for 285 lbs dude.
