Save the lectures old man, I couldn't care less about what you think a societal norm is/should be. This is a football forum, not a Gubernatorial debate. Grammar and political correctness are optional and I typically decline on both counts. I don't need your permission to reference the Nazis, Communists, Deceptacons or any other group of bad guys. I already explained what I meant but if you want to keep ranting about it be my guest.

You keep trying to compare "normal" work places to the NFL, which is naive, but whatever. In what workplace can an employee walk out w/ no explanation and then retroactively claim that he was leaving b/c he was harassed, while also admitting that he took part in the egregious harassment of others but that he only harassed others in order to placate the people who were harassing him? LMAO. That sob story wouldn't make it past a middle school principal much less a manager/executive at a real company where people are expected to conduct themselves as adults.

I think rather that the players recognize that fans and Wells are taking statements and actions that were intended as humor or just part of the typical way players talk to one another WAY too seriously and thin skinned.

And, he really doesn't need to read the report. I read the report through once. But, I didn't really need to as I've seen nearly all of it repeated ad infinitum - and the worst parts - all over the media. I'm sure he has as well. The parts Denney would have missed would have been only the parts favorable to Dolphin players and coaches other than Martin.

Kudos to Denny for saying what needed to be said.

It took some guts to stand up to the tidal wave of spin from the rabid self righteous brigade piling on this ridiculous issue.

As he said, you can investigate all 32 NFL locker rooms and you'll find some players in them that interact in the way the group in question did and do so with no issues.
You could investigate college locker rooms across the country and find players that interact in the exact same way as the group in Miami with no issues.
In addition, it's not just sports locker rooms. You could investigate any number of professional business workplaces across the country and find people that interact together in the same ribbing and aggressive competitive manner as those in the Dolphins locker room without issue.

I guarantee you that some of the very individuals in this thread playing the "I'm shocked at this" card have actually participated in some type of banter between friends that if it were typed out on a sheet of paper and taken as literal would make them look bad while no literal intent was intended or any offense taken by another party.

It's up to the individuals involved to dictate to each other what their interactions with each other are acceptable and what level of "joking around" may cross the line. If one such party cannot do that because of mental challenges like is being portrayed in Martin's case then that changes things.
Yes he needs help and people should consider that but it does not mean that the people that mistakenly interacted with him in a way he led them to believe was oK are evil.

The day that anyone's interactions with anyone can be assumed as and concluded to be literal in meaning or intent and used against them in proceedings like this is a day that a lot of people, including those piling on this issue could be in deep trouble.

Actually ... it's not. In fact, comparing trivial things to Nazism is more than a societal norm, it's a law ;)

I wonder why the Nazis get picked on more than Imperial Japan circa 1930s-40s. They were pretty awful too. I'd bet the Japs killed more Chinese and Filipino citizens in cold blood, than the Nazis did Jews.

Careful, you don't want to disrupt societal norms by bringing up historical events :shifty:

Comparing any atrocity is dumb. They are all horrible.

About the only thing worse is using those atrocities as parables to completely unrelated and unimportant situations.

So what? Did the report say that this behavior was uncommon or rare?

    Who said they were shocked?

No, its up to the organization to dictate what they believe to be acceptable behavior.
