What a ****ty game. It looked like a promising win for a few minutes at the beginning, with that safety. Then things went from bad to ****ty real fast. I don't know whether Golden thinks his best buddy DC will be all butt hurt if he fires him, or he still believes that his defensive coaching is not a major issue, but I hope he sees the light and lets him go soon. This season went from totally awesome, to gradually, just terrible.
Seems appropriate. Omar Kelly ✔ @OmarKelly IF any Hurricanes fan is scared that Al Golden will leave UM for Penn State, do me a favor & slap them one GOOD time for me. WHO CARES!
David Jones @djoneshoop Being told Al Golden is indeed a major target for #PSU. Whether he's interested will be another matter.
I wouldn't be too surprised if he went to PSU. A lot of coaches dream about returning to the college they played at, or grew up watching, to be the head coach. As long as he takes his DC buddy with him.
Onward State @OnwardState Penn State has set its sights on Al Golden and James Franklin. Sources tell us that Golden has been offered the job. http://onward.st/1g6uqYc
I've heard so much at this point. He's staying, he's going, he's staying to get a salary increase, he's going because "it would be like going home," according to ESPN. I'm predicting a run for Schiano or Chud if he does leave. I wouldn't be too disappointed if Golden did leave. While he's done a decent job, the players just don't have the fire they had under previous coaches. I just wish the school president didn't have a say in who gets hired and leave it up to the AD. I don't want a coach that is hired because he will promote a squeaky clean program and not cause any waves. I want a coach that doesn't care about that **** and will deal with it when it happens, because he's more concerned with getting us back on top.
Golden hasn't said anything to the media in forever. Hasn't even made an effort to lie. Most damning of all, hasn't even talked to recruits. Already lost a recruit because of it, and many more frustrated. All signs point to Golden being gone. At this point, I hope he's gone. I think he's a square peg in a round hole at Miami. He'll do very well at Penn State. His philosophy works there with the type of kids he'll be recruiting. It doesn't and won't work here. My list for replacements, in no particular order. 1. Butch Davis - Self-explanatory. Built the greatest college football team of all time, and did it at the University of Miami. Wanted to stay but Miami tried to **** him over on a new contract. Probably not going to happen on Miami's side considering how he left UNC, but he did apparently say he would be interested if the Miami job opened up. By far my top choice. I would probably cry like a ***** if he was hired actually. 2. Rob Chudzinski - Started 3 years as a TE at Miami winning 2 national championships. Won another as OC under Butch Davis. Good NFL track record. Got screwed over by the Browns too in my opinion. 3. Greg Schiano - Former Miami DC under Butch Davis. Turned around an awful Rutgers program. Supposedly turned down the Miami job when we hired Golden. Definitely turned down the Miami job in 2006 resulting in Randy Shannon being hired. Professional *******. Considering the good ole boys we've had failing lately, I'd gladly take someone like Schiano. 4. Mark Stoops - DB coach at USF and Miami. DC at Florida State. He knows Florida. Building a very good recruiting class at Kentucky of all places. 5. Curtis Johnson - Doing a good job trying to turn around a terrible Tulane program. WR coach at Miami for 10 years. Coached names like Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, and Santana Moss. Recruited Ed Reed. WR coach on the Saints for 6 years. The dream scenario to me, would be to somehow land 2 of of Butch, Chud, and Schiano. Having all 3 like in 2000 obviously won't happen since these guys are too accomplished at this point to be college coordinators again, and we couldn't afford it anyways, but getting 2 isn't out of the equation. I don't think Butch would mind being a DC again, and he was a member of Schiano's staff in Tampa. So a Schiano/Butch reunion is my dream scenario. Another favorite of mine is Jim Leavitt, but I don't see any chance of that happening. Petrino is a good option, but also very unlikely given his history. Probably back to Louisville for him. Mario Cristobal is another good option. James Franklin is another name but doesn't look likely. Of course we should all really expect to be disappointed when PSU ends up hiring someone else like Franklin instead and we're stuck with Al Golden again.
Welp there's always next year once Miami sucks again because Al Folden refuses to fire his butt buddy.
It doesn't look like there will be too many major changes with the defensive staff, or much else, according to these excerpts from Golden's interview on the Joe Rose show: Golden: “The biggest thing is, we’re not coming from a place of 11 or 13 wins. We’re coming from basically, as you know, what amounted to be a train wreck two years ago and we’re on an upward trend. “We won nine games. And continuity to me – you know, people think change is the answer. I want to get at the same place everybody else wants to get. I just believe continuity, the progress that we’re making is really important. The recruiting that we’re making, all of that is on an upward trend. If we look at the defense, for instance, again, we’re not where we want to be.’’ Golden then cited lots of statistical ranking trends and how UM had moved up in several of them, offensively and defensively. “What do you say about the job that your defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio has done, Coach?’’ Golden: “I just said it. The trend right now is positive. Read more here: http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/01/...hurricanes-coach-al-golden.html#storylink=cpy
Upward and positive trends. LOL. That's about to be up there with bs cliches like the great NCAA cloud, pillars, and the process. Only trend I see is 2 straight years of the worst defense this program has ever seen. Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk
Brandon Powell who is an Early Enrollee will decide tonight or tomorrow on whether to enroll at Florida or Miami. He is currently committed to the Hurricanes. Gators offered him a Scholarship yesterday. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Brandon-Powell-138396 BTW Congrats on the win over North Carolina.
I don't even know what to expect this coming season. I like Golden, but not changing our DC gives me little faith in that side of the ball. Offensively our QB play is going to be a big question mark. I feel like we took steps forward just to possibly step back.
Miami Football schedule 2014 Louisville Sept. 1 Fla A&M Sept. 6 Ar. State Sept. 13 at Neb. Sept. 20 Duke Sept. 27 at GA Tech Oct. 4 Cincy Oct.11 at Va. Tech Oct. 23 UNC Nov. 1 FSU Nov. 15 at Virginia Nov. 22 Pitt. Nov. 29
QB will definitely be a question mark, but the way Morris played this year I don't see it being worse even if it's a little more erratic. I doubt whoever it is at QB will be able to throw the deep ball like Morris (as bad as he was, he was excellent in this area), but you would hope they will be smarter with the football and do a better job with intermediate and short routes. With Duke, Gus, and Yearby the rushing game should be in good hands and the WR corps should be a strength with a healthy Dorsett and a more experienced Stacy Coley as well as whatever they get from Waters/Scott/Lewis. With those improvements around him, whichever QB is starting, should be in at least as good of shape as Morris was this year. Hopefully better.
DT Michael Wyche announces he's de-committing from UM because of obscure ACC rule involving consecutive months spent at JC. Wyche had appealed ACC's rule involving consecutive SEMESTERS, unsuccessfully. UM had expected him to be a major contributor next season That's from Barry Jackson
