Good thing his public speaking ability has nothing to do with his ability to aqcuire talent.

I hated the hire. Still do. Not going to judge him on his speakibg skills though.

Talk about putting the cart before the horse .All we can criticize at this point is that he is not a smooth public speaker .He has not done anything else to take potshots at....yet.

All I want Hickey to do is get one of the top tackles in free agency, and add Geoff Schwartz if it's possible as well (he's solid at both guard and tackle), and draft BPA in the first round... The true BPA not BPA by position.

    Here and there
I can deal (somewhat) with the over pessimistic view or the over optimistic view...there will always be, no matter what happens with this team plenty of both on each side of the fence, but this thread and the OP is just plain and simply hate mongering. I can under stand after FA or the draft to begin some grumblings and may even join in if warranted, but this is just incredible. At least CK has some information as to why he is concerned and even stated he is in wait and see mode.. I understand not liking the pick, I myself am not thrilled about the choice, but can we at least wait until we have a body of work in before the hate mongering starts?

It's obvious the agenda of the OP.

He certainly doesn't come off like a total douche like Ireland. It has to be better.

I'm not unhappy that he sounded a bit hesitant.

There was a famous study done looking into why clueless idiots got promoted. The findings were that competent people who knew their job knew the limits of what they could do and hedged their statements and promises based on what they knew was achievable. Incompetent people didn't know that they were incompetent or what was possible or impossible and blindly promised that they had the solution to fix the problem. So quite often clueless idiots come across as sounding confident and positive when really competent people sounded hesitant and focused on the negatives.

Bottom line is I'd rather have someone who is competent but sounds hesitant than Randy Mueller/Jeff Ireland types who sound as though they know what they're talking about but are idiots.

Time will tell on Hickey, so with some luck he will be competent as a GM if not public speaker. I don't hold high hopes of Hickey being a good or great GM, but being solidly competent would be nice change for a 'phins GM

At this point I'm just hoping he drafts a couple of guys early that are healthy enough to participate in the preseason.

I just want Hickey to be on the same page as Philbin and gets what Joe asks for.

If that had happened this past season there'd have been no scandal and we in all likelihood would have made the playoffs.

I'm more interested in his Meta approach to talent acquisition simply to have a frame of reference for how he does things in general, not specific, terms.

I thought one of the largest problems b/t Ireland and Philbin was Size v Mobility in players, which trait should be emphasized, Hickey I have no idea where he is coming from on that one.

Ireland's largest success as GM was landing Cam Wake, an outside of his normal approach type of player, is Hickey willing to break with his philosophy to acquire talent?

    Otherwise, why bother listening.

What have you seen from Philbin that shows him to be worth this confidence?

So far, he has done well with a flawed roster and young Qb.

We finished 8-8 with the worst offensive line in team history, even worse then the Expansion OL in terms of sacks surrendered, not to mention hits on the QB and a huge distraction thrown in.

And we are rarely penalized, the one measurable good thing from the Sparano Era has carried over.

I DO think Philbin is overly loyal to his Assistants/Friends, watching plays called where the Tackle is supposed to get outside to pick of a DB and having -0- shot of doing it..is what is known as a "sign of incompetence"..yet Mike Sherman and Jim Turner were not fired outright after the Jest loss.

Also think Darren Rizzi's squad massively underperformed

I think he was a huge reason behind Green Bay's success. They have consistently played worse without him.

I think he can do anything when he has the right players for his system. His system adapts to opponents not his players which is where I think fans get upset. They view great coaching as ONLY adapting to your players.

The fact that we beat some excellent teams and lost to some poor ones, really hammers that home for me. To beat the Colts, for example, we had the right players to run the gameplan. We did not have the right players to run the gameplan against the Bills.

We know for a fact, Philbin wanted Albert over Martin because he thought Martin couldn't be a good LT. He was right. He wanted Cogs off the team after the golf incident. That would have avoided the biggest scandal in team history. He was right. Let's be honest, how different could this past season have been with Albert over Martin and no scandal? Is that good enough for one more win? Two? That's likely playoffs and we already beat 4 of 6 teams that were in the playoffs. I legitimately don't understand how people aren't excited by that.

Its not to say Philbin isn't flawed. He is. He gave Sherman too much leeway. But he was Philbin's mentor after all. If allowing Sherman to do what he did for 2 years is an indictment of Philbin, then what does 1987 to 1995 say about Shula? Those are the years he had Tom Olivadotti as defensive coordinator. That's 9 years of terrible and no one talks about how stupid Shula was for that, but Philbin allowed 2 years of Sherman (his first 2 years, btw) and Sherman was his mentor and a successful head coach at one point. Now when it came time to replace Sherman what does Philbin do? He only goes out and identifies one of the hottest up and coming names in the league and brings him in. Oh he also lands one of the best oline coaches in the league too.

The top problems on this team, that everyone screamed about were:

    - Ireland
    - Oline (Martin #1)
    - Sherman
    - Oline (Turner)

All of that has changed. How are people not stoked?
