no tag, deal more likely than not. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...or-grimes-but-a-deal-is-more-likely-than-not/ "Per a league source, the Dolphins are not expected to apply the franchise tag to cornerback Brent Grimes. However, it’s currently believed to be more likely than not that Grimes signs a new contract to remain in Miami."
I'm sure this makes me a naive nonmoneyball dinosaur, but I like the idea of rewarding a guy who actually played well for us with a nice contract, when we have plenty of cap room.
IMO It sends a good message. A top player who has been here through this fiasco is staying by his iwn free will. Well if we get a deal done.
They are already paying Jason McCourty and don't feel Verner is worth the tag. He wants to test the market he's said.
Good point. If Verner gets a contract worthy of his talent it could match what McCourty is getting, and that would be a lot to have tied up in your starting corners.
I hear ya. Going younger can be appealing but I didn't follow Verner's 2013 season. Also don't know if he's an off corner or not. But I dd see Grimes and know he can play in coyle's scheme. Sometimes you gotta love the one you're with.
Good at what? Not being argumentative but there's a difference between being a top man/press corner and a cb who can flourish in man & zone. Everyone can't do both. And I'm not saying I like coyle's scheme, but that's who we're stuck with. IMO contract-wise Verner will receive a bigger one than Grimes. You don't pay someone shutdown cb money for a zone scheme. Look at what Lovie is trying to do with revis.
@RapSheet 1m Source: #Dolphins and CB Brent Grimes are closing in on a deal to keep him in Miami without the franchise tag. Could happen very quickly
