Oh, no, I know. I was just speaking to the whole topic in general. You just seemed to cover a lot, so I added on.

This 4 bid thing is good punishment for restructuring a player but I'm not sure it turned out to be the best thing for FA. Lot of guys going for either steals or much cheaper than they otherwise should. 5 bids across the board is much better IMO.

    Thanks for reminding me :ffic:

Agree with this. I liked when we had 10 bids best, less sniping and people could just go after who they really liked

Maybe only do 36 or 48 hrs next time? But there were only what, 8 teams with 5?

When do we get our 5th bid back?

I like the resigning option, maybe it could use some fine tuning but overall I think it's a nice touch.

If it were up to me FA would be done with silent bids sent too the commish himself. Highest bid wins, no crying about the damn clock.

These are all quirks that we can debate but IMO the amount of one sided RIDICULOUS trades that have taken place this year is disturbing. I would really like an administrator to confirm Boik and JM don't have the same IP Address. :shifty:

I like the re-sign option to. I was thinking of doing a tiered FA system. I don't know exactly how it would work, but maybe you have 5 players at each position avaiable and the highest bid after say 2 days wins. Then you go to a next tier.

The only changes I'd make to the Re-Sign is no restructuring QB and the bidding process be completely blind. Highest bid gets that player, doesn't go to FA, Bids aren't made public.

I would get rid of the restructure process completely. With the ability to cut high salaried players with no penalty and a 130mil cap it isn't necessary to give everyone an additional 10mil in free money for a restructure.

How is it more strategy? All it does is give people more money to spend in FA and Cut spending. Look at some of the prices players went for in cut FA. Regular FA pricing hasn't gotten that high yet, but thats also because most good FA were tagged because teams had so much money. Most players that were tagged had no business being tagged, but teams were flush with money. I feel like it bails out teams that mismanage their cap.

Edit: my post makes it sound like I hate the rule, which I don't. I just don't think it adds much value.

problem with that is that the original team doesn't get a chance to react to a bid.

I would keep restructures in but change the penalty. I like the idea of teams picking a player and basically locking him into the team so that you can't trade him later, by restructuring. It does add a degree of strategy.

I think the reason why free agent bidding is down is just because teams have 20% less bidding power. It has allowed more players to be signed at less $... so not only do teams have the extra money from restructuring, they now have extra money inherently due to the lesser free agency demand volume, if you will. It's been interesting... but my #1 goal for next year is to change to a more user friendly system that updates automatically. The message board has its constrictions.

I agree. With no dead money it just causes inflation. Or make it interesting. If you restructure you can't bid at all day one.

Because it allows you to possibly take on a larger contract in s trade, move one easier, keep a player youbmay have moved. So on.

    Just my two cents.

You should be able to manage your cap if you want to take on 1 or 2 large salaries. I mean i'm fine with the rule staying in, but would put more restrictions on it (harsher penalty and no QB)

I should clear up what I said. I meant rules I'd changed.

Restructure - No QBs, penalty is a bit much right now.

Re-Sign period - Bids are completely blind, bids aren't made public, player doesn't reach FA.

I feel like Re-Sign period should be a high risk/high reward. You opt for not franchising or tendering your player instead go the risky route of taking your chances of getting the player at a cheaper option. Then again you use that to sign mid-level players instead and hope they go unnoticed and slip so you get them for cheap.

I'll just say as a 1st timer in the GML, I think the rules are pretty straightforward and simple enough to follow if you pay attention. Being more of a purist, I think the one thing I'd change if I were the commish would be to add in some sort of dead money hit for moving big contracts that counts against your cap for the current year. For instance, if you move a contract that's between the minimum and $999,999 you have a hit of $500k working against your total $130M (or whatever the cap is) allotment; $1M - $5M, you take a $1M cap hit, $5M - 10M, you have a $2.5M cap hit, and so on.

From my perspective, I liked the Bengals roster coming in, so I felt that most of the moves I were going to make were peripheral. I wanted to make a move at QB and probably would've tried to maneuver in the Draft to get one of the big ones, hence my accruing of picks...until the Flacco trade materialized. Some of the teams just don't even resemble their actual roster at this point, which I'm sure is fun for others, but takes away some of the realism.

Gee and you know how this all got started. You were joking yesterday about "bumping" a few peoples players including mine. The goal was to make you think I didn't give a crap. Obviously it worked way too well on you. And there was no bloody bragging. You damn well asked, I gave you an answer.

With the way the salary cap is going to grow over the next couple years it may be time to slowly introduce dead cap. Could start with 25% next year.

This league for the most part never had much realism. The league has always been a fantasy madden league trying to build super teams, but that's a lot of fun for most GMs. There's always some GMs though that want to keep their rosters real and just make realistic moves.

I really enjoy trying to collect my favorite players from around the league. Some GMs want to build a badass defense or offense. Some teams want to just collect as many picks as possible and have fun in the draft. Everyone has their own strategy which makes it fun.

Mach's league introduced dead money this year and it has really changed the dynamic of the league IMO. It makes it more realistic, but it also cuts down on the trading and activity, so its sorta a double edged sword. I know some GMs (Van) thrive on making as many moves as possible and it makes it a lot more interesting when you are trading a lot.

This year and last I did. But I'm also relatively taking on teams that have a lot of issues. Next year I might take a more middle ground team and play more of a draft game. We shall see.

Your post does make it sound like you hate the restructure process....which I do. It takes away strategy and adds a free 5-10M in cap space for everyone. That may make it easier to dump contracts but it also makes it much easier to build "super teams". The structure of Roethlisberger basically paid for me to get Larry Fitzgerald. Think about that. While players do restructure in real life its usually to spread the money in the form of a signing bonus and for the team obviously it creates cap space. However, that usually screws up your cap in a different year. Yea, its a function of real life but this league doesnt have every element of reality. It also, as an aside, creates inflated FA prices (see for reference: The cut bidding signings before FA). Not a fan at all.
