The nickname came simply from his sack dance, hardy doesn't do anything like the wake explosion... Wake literally releases more energy in his celebration that he has to gauge the celebration based on situations in the game..the ferocious scream, it's totally kracken esque.
The player sort of has to acknowledge it for it to stick. This is why Kevin Durant is not the Slim Reaper, for instance.

No, that is not how Kraken started, watched him in 09 and he would be falling down and at the last second he'd reach out and grab the Qb's ankle and trip him up for the sack..like he had tentacles not arms ie "Kraken"
