Not having to run for his life after the ball is snapped will certainly take some getting used to.

I've blocked those last two games from my mind. The buffalo loss was a complete team meltdown. I'll focus on the overall improvement, not the last two crappy games.

The problem for those trying to forget those last two games and only focusing on the whole year overall is, those two games came at the end. Were those two games just a hiccup, or do they represent an inconsistency in RT that he needs to work on? He just had a fantastic game against Tom Brady. What did he learn?

It's not unfortunate those games came at the end (in regards to evaluating Tanny), it's unfortunate he played that way at the end. That said, he improved from last year, and hopefully he does again this year.

But those two games are crucial. They were not against elite teams, and they were for the team's playoff hopes. Those two games separate the Jay Cutlers from the Eli Mannings. One you win a couple super bowls with. The other you get in the area surrounding the big game but never get in.

Where are the reports of his offseason training and getting better at his timing working with his receivers?.

    If he's doing it it's news..lets go it's march.

I hope we make the playoffs this year. If we don't, I think Tannehill will really be under the microscope. He already is, but more so.

Griffin got his team to the playoffs in his first year. Luck both years. Wilson's been both years and has a SB victory to his credit. Weeden hasn't... and he may not be long for the league. The Dolphins had an awful receiving corps Tannehill's rookie year, and we had an awful line last year. This year, though, there can't be any excuses. It's a quarterback-driven league. I love Tannehill and want, want, want him to succeed. My girlfriend got me his jersey for Christmas, and it was my favorite gift. But he's got to win. This is the year.

the oline caved in and the coaching staff did nothing to even try to get anything going in the buffalo game. when you go up against a team in the bottom four in rush defense and can only manage 1.6 yards a carry and allowing 7 sacks not to mention the pressures, and hits tannehill received while hurting his knee, something besides the qb is seriously wrong.

the jets game the dolphins were running the ball well and then abandoned it. tannehills knee still didnt look right, and the defense could do absolutely nothing. the whole team stunk, it happens to even legends, let a lone a second your qb who is still learning the game on a team that basically threw him to the wolves expecting him to carry the whole team on his back. tannehill doesnt have the luxury some of the other younger qb's in the league have. dan marino had the weight put on his shoulders his whole career and had nothing to show it, and im pretty sure he was better than eli manning.(who is a **** luck throw and a wes welker drop from being 0-2 in the superbowl and hardly "clutch")

There have been several on this board who have pointed out Tannehill's inconsistency...not just in completing passes but hitting his receivers in stride. That problem was there all year long, but it only became apparent in the last two games because of several factors. His receivers were not pulling in bad passes like they normally do. The line wasn't doing anything. Hartline had a few drops...and he never has a few drops. It just all piled up.

So it's not that people who are on the fence with Tannehill only remember those last two games, because he did exactly as we've been saying all year long. It was just much more apparent to everyone else because other stuff went wrong too (like the Jets and Bills blitzing every down of the entire game, and out coordinator never making a single adjustment). Tannehill played bad, but those were team losses across the board.

Jay Cutlers and Eli Mannings? Difference between throwing a bunch of interceptions and throwing more interceptions?

become a vocal leader on this team.
learn to throw an accurate deep ball.
dont be afraid to use that 4.5 speed when all else fails.

do those 3 things and we are a playoff team.

You can make excuses all day but you have two stinkers at the end of the season. I understand the gameplan was fracked (and hence blame Philbin and Sherman for that) but when you only manage 6 first downs the whole game the whole team sucked, including the QB. Then he sucked another game as you point out.

Of course Dan Marino was better than Eli. Who even brought Dan in here? My point in showing Cutler and Eli are two marginal QBs who are good enough to get you into the playoffs, yet one wins two superbowls, the other always seems to fall short. After 19 games, 4 playoff wins you attribute the whole season to Tyree's catch and Wes Welker's drop?

Do the Giants win if Wes Welker drops that pass, but the Giants are behind?
Was that pass to Tryee the game winner? Or did Eli have to make a few more passes, including the game winner to Plaxico?

One's been to the playoffs a couple times, the other's won it twice. They're INT % numbers are slightly higher but nothing dramatic. Take Cutler's career INT numbers, apply them to Tanny, and he has 20 INTs instead of 17. Worse, but not devastatingly so. And Tanny's numbers got worse this year in that regard, but not bad (Drew Brees/Peyton Manning level of int's).

Smoothing data doesn't really take into account timing unless you're doing exponential smoothing or some other method that explicitly weights more recent data points heavier. The near randomness and of football variables makes me weary of weighting data by recency on any scale smaller than 16 games. I make exceptions for injury but barely.

Hopefully he is upright enough to establish a consistent deep ball in year 3.

A playoffs game would also be a welcome new challenge next year!
