Umm why have we only signed one offensive lineman?

The guard market is ugly right now, Shelley Smith is like the only suitable option left. I'm not tryna go into the draft searching for 3 starters on the line...finding 2, though not easy, is manageable, but looking for 3 is just asking for trouble. And no, I don't consider Nate Garner or Dallas Thomas or any of the other bums Ireland found to be starters.

or should we just sign Zach Streif and find our guards in the draft?

Branden Albert..Mike Pouncey...two out of five probowl players..

    This can be done..

I have more faith in Dallas Thomas than everyone it seems, I swear unless I totally botched his evaluation coming out I had him as being a solid guard.

    There will also be cuts..

    Free agency is not over..

    Draft is deep.

Maybe a player for player trade at some point.

Im not thrilled about the lack of lineman but defense (aside from our lb corp which can't really be helped due to bad contracts), the defense is in great shape

There are still some names out there, hopefully we find someone.

I guess they're waiting for the G numbers to come back down b/c those salaries are a little too high. Especially for Gs with injury histories.

They got their big key guy in day 1. Now they can wait and pounce on the 2nd tier market for good value.

yeah, slim pickings. Looks like at least 2 Gs will be drafted. We may have to sign a 2nd tier Center who can play guard.

Wharton woulf be a hell of a signing on a 1-2 year deal.

You can't just sign whoever you want by the way. The guy has to want to play in your city and on your team as well.

Because the popular theory is that if you stopped *****ing for more than one day the full weight of your Crybaby Force would collapse upon itself, causing a B**** & Moan Ore so dense, light would bend around it, which would in turn teeter the Earth's rotation off its axis sending us off hurtling through space colliding with other celestial bodies and ending all life as we know it.

The Dolphin FO's inaction so far is literally saving the world.

Dang, didn't catch that Howard signed with Raiders. If Smith signs elsewhere I'll be a little discouraged. RT tackle I can deal with getting a Cyrus K, JuWaun James or Seantrel Henderson to fill. Left Guard I can see a Zach Martin, Xavier Su'a-Filo, David Yankey, and Brandon Thomas all fitting. RG is a question mark. Maybe trade for Maurkice Poucey like some have suggested and move Mike to RG? Other than that, I agree 3 rookies could be disastrous and the scraps out there now are really meh.

I'm not sure where Collins is in his negotiations, but since he's not signed, I think the Dolphins should jump in. Collins may not see himself as a RT, but his market has sort of decreased and he'd be a full-time starter. We have the money/cap space. Also, Collins is a guy, should Albert go down like he has for a few games in previous seasons, you could swing over to LT without having to worry for Tannehill's life. It would give the Dolphins a great set of bookend pass protectors. And we'd still have the money to get a guard, like Smith, Wharton (as a band aid), or Garrett Reynolds. Then, we have guys that can compete and we can draft another for the other guard spot.

I'd also be fine with going after Zack Strief. Same principles apply.

I haven't seen that he's signed yet, but I did read that he was visiting the Bucs today. The Bucs/Redskins were in a bidding war, and his price was around $7M when the Redskins' interest sort of faded. He'll likely be a Buc. I still think it's worth the Dolphins throwing their hat in the ring. So he's flying to Tampa? What's another few hundred miles to Miami just to see what the Dolphins might put on the table?

Of course, I have seen nothing where the Dolphins have shown any interest, so there's that. I'm just saying what I would do, which is worth whatever anyone will pay for it (so far, not much, though I'm hopeful!). But I digress -- if you saw a link where the Bucs signed him or have agreed in principle, lemme know or please share!

I don't think LB is completely wrong here. A little impatient, maybe. But not all that wrong.

We literally have 3 positions without starting caliber players across a single unit.

    1) Relying on Dallas Thomas to be a starter after he couldn't get on the field for a single snap during a historically bad season from our OGs, 1 player walking off the team, and another being suspended indefinitely is not promising for his future in this league.

    2) Relying on a drafted rookie O lineman rarely works out well. Those guys that come into the league and produce effectively and immediately are usually drafted with the first ten picks in the draft. We don't have one of those. And even if we did, it's still a big gamble.

I'm satisfied with the Albert pickup, but I really think that we should've overpaid if we had to for another solid FA lineman given our dire circumstances. We had the money to do so. Now, it looks like there's not many solid options out there.

I'll say this. When the same alarm was raised last year, with the head scratching moves on oline, there was blowback.

"What, do you know more than the FO?"
    "They have a plan."

Etc. etc.. The problem? We're even more bare this year than last! So let's see what happens ...

Exactly. Relying on guys that were never remotely successful to all of the sudden be successful (Jon Martin, John Jerry) bit us in the *** hard last year.

Doing it this year with guys like Dallas Thomas and/or rookies will likely result in the same sort of disaster

Guards are probably the easiest to plug in an average guy and have him play well if there is a good tackle next to them. Not worried there. I'd like to fix up our RT position though.

I'd guess a guy named Shelley would have to be one mean ornery mofo. Can you imagine growing up with that name? It's like in that old Johnny Cash song, A Boy Named Sue. He'd be fighting all the time. Either get tough or die.
