Just wanted to put this out here so it doesn't get lost..

    He actually said two really's....lol

Then the other guy on the insiders said he's hearing in the league that Mitchell could be the "steal of this free agency period", breakout player.

    4.75 forty at 296 lbs..

Super quick and active who was stuck playing the nose tackle position last year, free that brother up with Starks and let them attack the line of scrimmage ala Geno Atkins.

    Good vibes thus far...

And did you hear, we're getting a better version of our stadium..seats will be moved closer, seats will be painted..few rows added to the sideline.

    Fun.

I like Mitchell, but Polian's endorsement does nothing for me. The game left him a long time before the Colts left him, and he's even worse in his current role.

If we can get Patterson back our D is set except for middle linebacker..

At this point, just guessin here, I Think Zack Martin, CJ Mosley or Ryan Shazier at#19 are in play.

I think if Mosley fell to us, they'd go for him. Not sure they'd pick what essentially would be a guard at 19, that would be a need pick all the way through, and Hickey has said he prefers to go with BPA. I think one of the top TE's may also be a possibility or maybe even Brandin Cooks, considering they really liked Tavon Austin last year.

Man, how great would it be if DJ really steps up and becomes a dominant pass rusher? Our D would be sick. Wake needs someone else to get good pressure and free him up from double teams and RB chips, etc. A guy with his potential and physical attributes, could really be something special for this D. It's still a big IF, but that could take the D to another level, but i guess, at this point, we'll just have to hope.

Is Mitchell going to be playing 1-technique or 3-technique or both? That's one thing I'm confused by.

Polian loves Mitchell. Had him ranked number 6 on his list of free agents. Not sure how much that means, but it's good to hear I guess.

One of the main reasons why Mitchell signed here is because of where he is going to play, which is the 3 in the 43.. He was adamant that this position is where his skillset will explode..he wasn't happy playing nose I can tell ya that..

Also didn't play defense til his junior year in college.

I hear what Pate is saying, but for events like free agency, Polian is not he kind of guy who will spit out info unless it has been checked and double checked..I'm confident he did extensive film work.

This kid is all business, you can tell what kind of player we want..it's all about the passion and willingness to work at their craft, both Albert and Mitchell are in tremendous shape right now..they both have strong work ethic and our lean players, that's plus plus imo..

Here's what I'm thinking, jared Odrick, you better step up your workouts and your game if your gonna beat this kid out..

If you can't beat this kid out, myself personally I would shop him, I don't need a former first round pick in a rotation, I can find depth, but if I can get a high pick I might think hard about that.

I don't see Patterson coming back to Miami but it would be nice. I just think he would be too expensive. They saved $5M off of him so we'll see.

Wasn't aware of injury history of Mosley; elbow, hip and shoulder.

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/c.j.-mosley?id=2543464

Seems like a high pick for a guard in Martin, but I would be hopeful that he can play guard for 2-3 years, play LT if Albert gets hurt, and take over at LT when Albert leaves. Not very sexy.

Have you seen our schedule? Im not sure I believe with any upgrades we make this offseason that were going to win more than 8-9 games max... Do you think otherwise??

Home: Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens

Away: Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars

I see use splitting evenly within division so 3 loses there, Losing to Denver, GreenBay, Chargers, KC, and Chicago (8 Loses)
Winning: 3 division games so 3 wins there, beating Minnesota, Jacksonville, Oakland, Ravens, Detroit (8 Wins)

So again next year were sitting outside the playoffs with a mid teens draft point... Again *****ing next offseason... I know things can change but this is how i see it right now..

Bill Polian is also the kind of guy who is going to love the specific style defensive tackle that Mitchell is.

He's almost certainly going to be the 1-technique. He's just a different style.

Odrick played around 870+ snaps last year. More then any of our DT's. We basically use a 3 man rotation. If anything we could probably use a more solid 4th guy to swallow up the depth guys snaps and maybe give Starks about 50-100 snaps less to keep him fresh.

    Starks: 742
    Odrick: 876
    Soliai: 572
    Austin: 28
    Martin: 32
    Aaitui: 36

Besides it sounds like Mitchell is going to take over Soliai's spot in the end unless we got another move to find a more stout guy. I don't see Starks or Odrick filling that spot on the DL full time.

There sure were games last year where those guys could have used a blow. They had some games w/ lots of snaps on D and some series that were really long as well.

That's why I don't think we are absolutely done at DT. Could be a 4th guy signing on the cheap.........could be a day 3 draft pick. I just don't think we are done there.

Would not be so sure about that one, Patterson violates the #1 rule of player acquisition:

"..they have be healthy and be out on the field.."

He has mkt value, the question is how much value with him missing significant time the last 2 seasons with lingering injuries.

Suspect we landed our top 3 FA targets, Starks/Mitchell/Albert, now we manage Cap space and see where the market settles on the middle class FA's we may be interested in signing.

Rb's typical go into FA with high expectations, the league simply won't pay them what they think they are worth, would love to see a MJD in Miami if the price is right

When Soliai(and guys like him) play 1-technique positions it is pretty straight forward what they're going to do. They're going to be easy to block, but them being blocked is less likely to open a lane(holding their ground against blockers) and more likely to open a numbers issue(drawing a double team, etc.).

The idea with a guy like Earl Mitchell is he's harder to get blocked and harder to anticipate what he's doing. He can stunt and attack a variety of gaps, and he'll be quicker to the point where he can cause a problem with a blocker trying to square up on him if he's fast enough off the snap. He won't be as good when he's successfully blocked but the idea is that he's harder to do so on.

He's a 1-technique in Houston. I think to an extent people are barking up the wrong tree suggesting he was miscast because it was a 3-4 because it's the same technique and the same kind of responsibilities.

im going by what he said in his presser which was, that he came here because were gonna run the 43, that he didn't like playing the 1 because it doesn't showcase what he thinks he can do best, and seemingly the dolphins confirmed that with him and are going to allow him to do what he does best which would be based on penetrating, movement, rushing the passer, and shooting gaps.

I saw his pressor as well. Certainly sounds like a 3 technique. Between him, Starks, and Odrick we've cornered the market on 3 techniques................

I don't think he said anything about techniques, and it's the same positioning in a 3-4 or 4-3. I wouldn't be shocked if they gave him a shot to earn play time at other positions. They could also have more willingness to end up with Odrick or Starks at a 1-technique, be it by design or shifting in a direction rather than having guys switch spots if a shift changes strongside or weakside directions.

Green Bay, Chicago, sd, and kc are all toss ups IMO. Could go either way and they might depend on home field. More importantly, we have to do better in the division, which isn't a huge stretch goal
