Steve Smith and Mike Wallace are complete opposite players and WRs.

Smith is too old. A couple of years ago he'd of been great for what we have now.

At this point I think it'd a waste and he could be a headache.

Smith has stated that he wants to play as a slot receiver. He's not the homerun threat he used to be. He seems more of a possession type now.

Wilfork asking to be released... Patriots likely will try to find a trading partner cause it almost sounds like he wants to head to Denver..

The kind of post you responded to always make me chuckle. I would have taken Manning as my QB in a heartbeat....probably still would even at this stage in his career. The year his Colts lost to the Jets in the playoff, he did everything he could possibly do to win that game, including a TD with under 2 minutes left to put them ahead. Then the Colt's D went and let Mark Sanchez beat them. But Manning choked, lol.

Dolphins today again reached out to Zach Strief, the best remaining free agent RT.They would like him to visit. Will play out over coming days

    ---------

Saints' can't afford him though I guess they're making efforts by trading Sproles, very likely we will get a meeting.

Would be a great addition, then one more guard in free agency and we can move onto the draft to work on the rest of the line.

Word is we are interested in Tarrell Brown from the 49ers. We would be very wise to sign him to a 3-4 year deal according to his PFF numbers.

So we asked him to visit already and he declined? I'd love to lock up a reasonable RT.

It's a bit ridiculous how stories take hold. Manning chokes and Tom Brady's team lets him down. Let's disregard the talent level of the players and coaching staffs and just go with that story.

I think any team outside of Green Bay would improve drastically (at least for the short term) with Manning at QB.

He hasn't declined he just wants to stay with the Saints but the Saints don't have the cap to sign him, wouldn't shock me if we hear more about this on Saturday. No need to rush it we got plenty of time but he's aware we're interested.

Give me Hakeem Nicks please. Pair him with Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, and Matthews and RT would have a field day. Nicks could be got at a reasonable price if we wanted him.

Tell you what. Is kick the tires on Donald penn. See if he would play RT for us. He had a down year, but he's shown he's pretty damn good in the past.

Would be for this move but not if it means we would ignore the position in the draft in the event that brandon cooks or even mike Evans falls to us.

Steve Smith visiting Baltimore today, but will be taking full advantage of free agency by visiting other teams next week. Charlotte observer reporting he will not sign right away with Balt. Although that could change with a big $. Or Ozzie Newsome blowing Smitty away, which he may. Especially if you've been in one organization your entire career and see how winning franchises work differently.

Going back to the beginning of 2007, Penn has not missed a single game. Every game so far though has been only at LT. Maybe not be comfortable on the right side. CK mentioned the possibility of signing him to play LG though. Looking back, he did play RT as a freshman at Utah State, and been a LT there and at Tampa Bay ever since. Seems like a slam dunk that Oakland should and would sign him, but if they didn't and given Hickey's familiarity with the player, it seems like he'd be an option for us.

Damn, Giants add Jameel McClain. Didn't even realize he was available. Nice run-stopper LB coming off some injuries, hard-nosed worker, good leader. Nice dice roll add for NY, imo. Wish we would've gotten in on him.

Does it really matter ?? There isn't much out there in FA and we still have RT, RG and LG not filled, unless you count in Thomas... Is that comfortable ?? Not to me... I don't think going into the draft needed 2 or 3 starting OL is very smart...

    Indeed - think.

With $25 M in cap space (and with the cap increasing in years to come) we have enough money to pay a premium for a couple more O-linemen. We aren't going to build a SB champion this year. But, if we can shore up the OL in free agency and land a decent WR (I prefer vets to rookies if you need an extra spot) and throw in a journeyman vet CB (maybe even bring back Patterson - who should not cost a great deal), we can go into the draft with a lot more freedom to go BPA at multiple positions.

Building the OL, adding a bit more fuel to the receiving corps, will make the offense much more potent and will not just help us get to the playoffs, but also make Miami a much more attractive place in the future. If RT is continually crushed, we aren't going anywhere and no talent will want a part of us next year. The OL - even at a premium - is vital. We need to be willing to pay up at this point even if it may cost a couple of other spots in free agency.

With the way deals can be front and backloaded, its not bad to overpay if it fits into your cap long term and you can eat the hit mainly in one or two seasons.

I know the OL was terrible last year and we do need to fix it, but lets not forget that after the whole Martin/Cogs issue and some guys were out, the OL actually started playing better. Tanne had good time, especially in the last couple of games and especially in the last game. I don't think we need to a complete overhaul in the FA. We have Albert and they're looking into a couple of others, so if they can possibly draft, at least, one quality player, we should be in a lot better shape. They just can't do it all in FA.
