Middle linebacker...3 quality Olineman...game changer at running back..Fullback...dynamic 2nd tight end..a very talented well rounded receiver with game changing ability...explosive returner..

These are the positions that I believe we need to fill to become competitive over the next three years..I do realize we can't do all that in one offseason, but I hope you realize that by the time we do address those positions other positions will become vulnerable..at some point, you must make moves in this league.

We don't need all of those improvements to happen, just a few. In fact, even if we just get the expected improvement from Tannehill based on the additional experience and better pass protection we should be able to win 2-3 more games, i.e., 10-11 in total. If Lazor is any kind of improvement over Sherman that should be worth another game or 2. The Matthews/Egnew/Sims stuff is just gravy. On the defensive side, Dion Jordan becoming what we expected out of him as a #3 pick alone would be a major boost. So would Jones returning to his 2012 form.

Remember trading existing known assets for new, unknown ones has its risks too. We know Hartline is solid but unspectacular. But he's reliable and helps move the chains. There is a need for that. I don't think we need to trade Hartline in order to upgrade the dynamism of the offense. If there is great receiver value in the draft, by all means we should go for it. Ebron could be a worthwhile pick at 19. And even on the 3rd day of the draft, there may be some skill position role players that could really add something to this offense. Dri Archer intrigues me as a slot receiver or 3rd down back in some fo the same ways that Tavon Austin did last year. He's less turnkey in that slot role than Austin, but he's electrifying. De'Anthony Thomas is similar in some respects and some things I've seen say he'll be around after the 5th round. Seastrunk may also be available on Day 3 and would be an exciting addition at RB.

One "Splashy" move that I might consider, depending on price, would be a trade for Chris Johnson. I'm not fully sure what has happened with him the last few years but I don't believe he has physically deteriorated that much at age 28. He still has elite speed. I don't see him as an ideal "small hole" runner, i.e., as someone who makes the most out of little running room, but he is a great "big hole" runner, i.e., once he gets to the second level he is deadly. Are we confident enough that we can create those big holes? Not really, but it is a possibility. I'm assuming we will be a full-on zone blocking team witht he somewhat "unique" opportunity to be almost completely rebuilding our OL to fit what we want to do. We have 2 Pro Bowl level pieces with great mobility. If we can add 3 more pieces who really fit the zone blocking scheme, we have a decent chance to duplicate the running success that Benton had in Houston for most of his time there. They had big holes. I think Chris Johnson may be able to really thrive in that kind of system. It would be a bit of a gamble on greatness, but . . .

If Carlos Hyde or Tre mason is there with our #2..than we should look to move miller for a late pick.

Why? Miller is worth more than a late pick. Go ahead and pick one of those guys if they represent BPA, but there is no reason to get rid of Miller for virtually nothing.

I find some of the impatience with Miller a little strange. True, he did not have the breakout year we had hoped for, but he also had some pretty dreadful blocking in front of him. Despite that he still averaged 4 yards per carry. He had only 1 fumble (albeit a notable one) and 1 dropped pass. His PBE was 95.5, which was 14th best among NFL RBs. Give him some holes and he'll run through them. And even without many holes, his 4.0 ypc was pretty respectable.

This. Some want people canned too quickly. Give the players time to grow. The difference from college to nfl is great, they need to find their feet. For some it happens soon, others a while. Remind me again of Wakes stellar post draft career. Let the players do their growing and learning here. Miller needs a line. Tannehill needs a line. The receivers need a line. If you don't think this game is won in the trenches, I think you are making some odd judgments. Let's give the guys the line then judge them. I'm truly of the opinion that if Tannehill fails in Miami, he'll find success somewhere else.

Agree 100% Why get rid of a young, cheap player who's shown talent? Even if he's just a backup, he's worth keeping.

I don't know about how sound this would be but shouldn't we stop this drafting of just need because we always seem to draft need instead of best player available ?

I would add as much fire power on offense and tweek the defense . I would trade Hartline and cut Daniel Thomas and draft 1 running back and add another back thru f/a and I would draft 4 olinemen and 1 db .

. This is a 2 year project in my mind. Not going to compete in 2014. Build both lines for next year, sign marquese pouncey next year, and get new set of linebackers and a tall WR and TE. BOOOOOM 2015 playoffs here we come.

This a gajillion times over. Jut keep building and building. Part of the reason all these guys are running to NE and Denver is they are there. They are that 1 player away from a Super Bowl teams. Miami isn't. Maybe 5-6 away from the playoffs. I have no interest in mortgaging the future when Manning and Brady won't be around in a few years. And NE got lucky with Brady. That's not happening again. I know preaching patience with this team falls on deaf ears, but there's no reason to try and go all crazy to take down those 2 teams when it's not happening this season.

Until he can hold up to a legit pass rush and do his job, until he can be much more violent in his nature, until he can break more tackles, until he can do something when he finds himself in the open field, he's a backup..by no means would I go Into this season as my #1, so if we're talking #2, I can find that elsewhere if miller can land me a fifth..

I think Miami has to hope they found their guy with Tannehill. The defense isn't going to be consistent and top level until we replace our LB unit. Personally, I don't like any of them. They're all replaceable.

If we can haul in Strief and Smith, that would set us up nicely at #19. We can go anywhere at that point. We won't be pigeonholed at OL.

We need a RB. I like Miller, but we can't hitch our wagon to him again.

If there is a TE or WR there that can create mismatches, take him. It's not a gross need, but I'm all for getting guys that score points or create turnovers.

    FA Targets: RT, OG, CB
Draft Targets: OG, RB, OT, LB, TE

Get your oline fixed thru free agency, and just attack the skill positions in the draft, and shock the hell out of this offense..

He's done a very good job of holding up to the pass rush. His pass blocking efficiency was 7th best among RBs and PFF gave him a positive subjective grade for blocking. It would be great to see him break more tackles, but 4.0 ypc behind that line is respectable. And while it is possible, it is not likely that you'll find a better RB in the 5th.

Miller is going to be a good RB behind a good line. Loved him coming out of school and still do if he wasn't hit before he gets past the line of scrimmage. Adriam Peterson probably wouldn't have rushed for more than 1000 yards behind that line.

Miller's not physical enough to be a feature back. Too many negative runs, not enough broken tackles. Guys who tote it 12 times a game generally have a higher per carry avg than guys who carry it 20 times; and even then Miller is 28th in the League at 4.0, the number people keep saying is respectable. I don't know how you can watch the way he runs and think that he's a 3-down guy who can tote it inside 20 times per game. He just isn't that guy. He got only 50 carries his rookie year. He had a great chance to seize the job this year and he didn't.

Miller is a fine part-time player, but we need another talented back.

We cannot stay staus quo with this oline..

And we cannot stay staus quo with the same skill players as last year..

If we don't make moves for lineman we will have to go there in the draft, thus prohibiting us from drafting hi level skill players..

We've replaced 2 people on a 5 man line already and we hired all new oline coaches. That is not staying status quo. Its the opposite of staying status quo.

Current Bovada super bowl futures have us at 50-1.

Only 3 of our 10 non-division opponents have odds below ours, with 7 above ours.

Even forecasting a 3-3 division record, which I think is plenty fair, that puts us at a 6-10 estimate.

Super Bowl odds have never been a great judge of things but that's still got to be concerning.

I'm going to go ahead and predict that when they put the season win over/unders out there, they will have Miami at 6.5 which could be bet up enough to induce them to move it to 7.

Replacing two in a very unique dire situation is not enough with the cap space we have, not when you need to upgrade 5 skill players..

    1) I think we need a legitimate threat to Brian Hartlines job.

    2) feature running back

    3) fullback who can catch.

    4) 2nd tight end

    5) returner..

And two new starters on the oline..

We have some money, I don't know what were waiting for, if were done spending on oline, and were going into the draft looking for them, then the offense will suffer..

DJ, the team only needs to hit on one lineman with the draft. They already have potentially a solid left side, getting one solid player in the draft for the right, and the 5th spot using one of the players you already have and giving blocking help if it's needed. Thats enough. It wasn't realistic to completely overhaul the line with all solid players in just one season. Solidifying 3/5 or 4/5 is a good improvement.

The skill players can still be gotten. There is also the possibility of trading back in the first and getting another 3rd pick to get more solid players.

Can still get a WR in the 1st.
OG or RT in the 2nd.
    Good back in the 3rd.
    and some depth afterwards.

At this point you look around and see a Jets team that will improve and a Bills team that will likely be as tough, NE that will be a realistic SB fav and you realize that we may need one of those years turnovers fall your way and a breakout year from RT to get to 10 wins.

I hope this is just the bitterness of two HORRIBLE losses at the end of the year talking and not me just being honest.

Bills might improve, but I doubt it'll be a significant improvement. Plus, their schedule is just as tough as the Dolphins.

I don't think the Jets improve at all. Their schedule is the worse of the 3. Realistically, they might only be favorites vs the Raiders.

The Dolphins only needed to beat Geno Smith and these Jets in Miami too make the playoffs....and Smith walked into the stadium and thoroughly outplayed Ryan Tannehill.

They have guys like Coples, Richardson, Miliner who will all be a year better. I see another likely split with both Buff and NYJ.

That doesn't make Geno Smith good. Cleo Lemon had some nice games too.

Smith doesn't belong on an NFL roster. Hes the most pathetic QB I've ever watched take an NFL snap.
