Thinking about getting an Apple Tv. I have a macbook, iphone and ipad. I also have a LGSmart Tv.....so I don't know if its worth it to add the $99.00 ATV if it basically does the same as my TV now.

Anyone have it that can shed some light on the pros and cons of it?

You can generally get it for $85 or so if you shop around a little bit. It's a good price.

Think of the AppleTV as a front end for your iTunes account. Whatever is available in iTunes is generally available on the AppleTV, plus some things like the new WWE channel. You can also use Airplay to beam content from your iPad, iPhone, relatively recent Mac, etc to the AppleTV.

Thanks. While I have your attention, I have an older macbook running 10.5.8 still. I can't find where or how to friggin upgrade. I don't have the means to get a new laptop, but it sucks not being updated or protected. Any advice?

I have Apple TV, although I rarely use it unless I travel as like Desides says it's basically like having your iTunes account on TV and I have tons of movies, so I'll bring it on vacation with me and watch those movies instead of lugging around a portable DVD player and DVD cases. I used to use it to hook up my Flixster account via my iPad to TV so I could watch movies on a TV instead of the iPad but Flixster now has an app on all the Smart TVs. But I'll probably use it a lot when I get the WWE Network.

Check and see if your Mac can run 10.6 Snow Leopard by checking the minimum requirements. If you can, then order the installation DVD from Apple. Once you're on 10.6, you'll have access to the App Store. From there, you can download and install Mavericks.

Though if you're on 10.5.8 and having a hard time getting to 10.6, you're better off just buying a used/refurbed Mac to replace your current.

No. The interface is as clunky as a 1980s cable box, and the remote is ****.

Nothing wrong with the interface, IMO. There are only so many ways to design an interface that works from 10+ feet away.

You want a bad interface? Use a DirecTV receiver.

Safari doesn't work in what sense? It won't open? Or it crashes constantly?

First suggestion is to use Disk Utility in the Applications -> Utilities folder and repair permissions.

Delete that copy and reinstall safari or another web browser.

Something about the Safari installation is messed up.

Download the 10.9.2 combo update and run it. It'll reinstall 10.9.2. You shouldn't lose any data, but do a Time Machine backup just in case beforehand.
