No clue, but Idzik is extremely thrifty. But his options are dwindling. The Jets secondary is not good. They have to do something. Personally, I don't care what they pay him. He's the best FA CB left. I don't want to see Kyle Wilson playing on the outside.

He didn't want to re-sign here because he got tired of seeing so many fans misspell his name. It is Carroll, not Carrol. His name was rapidly gaining on Larry "Czonka" and "Zack" Thomas for most misspelled player name in team history. :)

Was Holmes contract a decade ago? No?

What about your TE jerking off in a parking lot? I think that was less than 10 years ago...

Lil annoyed seeing Tarrell Brown go for 3.5 M, and Anthony Dixon sure looked like a bargain.

O'well, the powers are smarter than me.

The contract depends on the breakdown. Any one know what that is? Revis signed a 2 year 32 M deal. He is getting 12 this year 20 next. No one expects them to pay 20 m to him next year. And if fine fan is healthy he can add some toughness to quality play. And if Taylor starts, all the better. A needed signing and still Lots of cap space left.

Like what we are doing but still some surprises:

    - Brandon Spikes to Buffalo for 1 year and $3.25 M? I'd have offered him $3.5 with no state tax and a guaranteed starting MLB!

We have no MLB and here's a dude who can blast the run - going at bargain prices - no effort to sign. Hmmmm….

    - Hakeem Nicks to Colts for 1 year $3.25 M? Another "why not go after that guy?" Nicks is 26 and though his production has dwindled the past two seasons, that is quite a cheap price, imo.

Have to wonder if that will set a market rate for Jones and others?

A couple of pundits wondered whether Finnegan would make it through Miami's camp. Interesting. I think he has a chance to be an impact player. If he is healthy, he is much better than he showed last year and if he can be the #3 or #4 CB he could still shine for us. Plus it brings some vet competition for Taylor which will only help him get better even if we cut him.

We still have to be in serious good shape cap wise. I still see a need for a vet WR and a RB.

I wonder if we're exploring any trades for a right tackle... What a steal Baltimore got last year, I think it was 2 third round picks for Eugene...

I'm still confused about why we didn't go after Nicks. He will regain his dominance and he would have been cheap and is young. He was a no brainer choice IMO. Ticks me off that we never go after offensive skill players. We got Wallace last year and he's the first in a while but I think Nicks would have been a better player for us than Wallace .... not to mention a whole lot cheaper.

Strief may be back in play per his agent. This is huge. If we land him, I have to give Hickey an A on the UFA period.

    Realistically, before the draft:

We need 1 more starter quality OL (Strief fits the bill in spades) and a power RB.

Get both of those and Hickey has KILLED it.

And he's left himself plenty of capspace to close this thing out properly.

I don't think the Dolphins were ever out of the mix for Strief but he really wants to stay with the Saints if possible. It's going to take some creative accounting to get that done though. I read they don't have enough cap space to sign their rookies as it stands.

You're right though. Big ups to Hickey if he can pull this off before the draft.

I would be interested in Alex Mack... move Pouncey to LG.. Smith to RG.. Wasting Pouncey's talents at Center he would be the best LG in the game..

"@chrisperk: Ex-#Bears KOR Devin Hester said agent been contacted by #Dolphins. Hester: "I would love to play for the Dolphins."

Also says about 14 teams have contacted him, would not give a frontrunner,

I would only be interested in him as a kick/punt returner...... he's a very below average receiver... he would instantly spark our special teams... Thigpen has been solid but we can do better especially with Hester.

Getting someone to help with our return game would be big IMO. I can't stand our current special teams return game.

Finn negotiated his own contract...its surmised to be heavily incentive driven. Why does anyone care how much hes getting paid anyways? Do we get like..an extra point if we spend under a certain amount? I really dont get this hang up on contracts. I have yet to see Aponte sign something really bad...

Then you clearly ignored Mike Wallace, Ellerbe and Wheeler's contracts. All of which are very bad.

I'm in no rush to move Pouncey to OG, but one could get Mack at the right price I'd be good with it. With the transition tag, however, it seems unlikely we could get Mack at the right price. If it was a team-friendly deal the Browns would presumably match.

I don't agree. Not a fan of Thigpen's decision making; catch a ball he should let go and watch a ball bounce that he should have caught.
    Amen.

I would too, but the way those deals for a transition player usually works, is the team signing him to an offer sheet just does the negotiating for the team that puts the tag on him. There are no more poison pills, so unless a team is in cap hell they usually match.

Uh they're very bad, what's worse is the dead money tied to them and the guaranteed money as well, we're stuck with them.

For one more season. After this year their dead cap is all minimal. Especially the LBs.

Per his agent, they are still working out a deal with the saints, his preferred destination... They probably (my guess) waiting until the Saints clear out some more money with other cuts/signings/restructures... I agree that he'd complete about as good a FA period as we could have hoped for, but we'll have to wait and see what he and the Saints do...

Just this season. After that they're easy to cut. If the players played up to expectations the contracts would not even be a topic of conversation.

Here's last years free agent signings 7 of the top 100.
The Dolphins group of seven are:

Wide receiver Mike Wallace - Rank: 1
Wide receiver Brian Hartline - Rank: 20
Cornerback Brent Grimes - Rank: 31
Tight end Dustin Keller - Rank: 36
Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe - Rank: 39
Quarterback Matt Moore - Rank: 49
Safety Chris Clemons - Rank: 85

Just thought I'd share to have a comparison in a sense to what we are doing this year. Not comparing GM's or anything just a look at the players and signings.

That has a lot to do with Miami not paying a huge salary to a QB.

what point are you trying to make? That their contracts aren't bad because Miami still had money to spend? That's how it reads

Regardless the point is their contracts aren't bad because they are easily escapable.
