Given his rep, I'd have thought he was near the top of the list among corners in # of penalties. In 2012, his last full season, he had 2. In 2011, he had 5, which was tied for 26th among corners. In 2010, he had 5, which tied for 17th. In 2009, he again had 5 and tied for 24th. In 2008, he had 8 and that was 4th most. That total was kind of what I was expecting to find every year, at least.
He doesn't have a reputation for being penalized. But for occasions of roughhousing. He may not get the benefit of the doubt on personal foul incidents but it's not like those are every game.
He's been one of the worst corners in the past two seasons. You guys highly overplayed for his services.
Lookie lookie here at who has crawled from under his rock to give us a visit, aren't we the lucky ones.
So I haven't seen it anywhere, what's finnegans guaranteed money? Overall I like the signing. Think he's a backup plan for jamar Taylor and could be an awesome slot. I'm really excited about our d.
Mike Wallace with Manning??? That's got 1700 yards 14TDs written all over it. See Wallace can actually get behind a defense, something a Jets WR hasn't done in years.
Doubtful. I doubt hitting receivers 50 yards down the field perfectly in stride is Peyton's strength at this point in his career. Any WR could benefit from being with Peyton but are we going to pretend Peyton can throw Big Ben style bombs way down the field to Mike Wallace...
Peyton Manning throws with such anticipation that he wouldn't need to gear up a bomb. Im sure he would exercise the "if they are even, he's leavin" mantra and lay it out there for Mike. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
1) please spare me the hypocritical, hypothetical anti-football bull ****! (or are you being facetious?) the move was smart & calculated & very well may pay big dividends for small change. grow up, this is the nfl not a boys choir. let's not whine our way back into the loser column before we've played our first game. 2) no bigger fan of Peyton Manning than me! having said that, had Peyton played behind our offensive line, Wallace would have been as ineffective. why don't you ladies give Tannehill a break & get behind the team instead of trying to stuff Miami in the bad-team bin with every post? 3) looks to me like the new GM is off to an excellent start: Offensive Tackle Branden Albert Safety Louis Delmas Cornerback Cortland Finnegan Cornerback Brent Grimes Defensive Tackle Earl Mitchell Offensive Guard Shelley Smith Defensive Tackle Randy Starks what's not to like? he's set us up for an optimal draft & we are well on the way to legitimately compete in 2014.
Cuz people are used to *****ing about any and all Phins related. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Huh? If you're talking about me, bud, you couldn't be more wrong. I'm as objective as they come... believe that.
wasnt talking bout you at all..does look like I was though..sorry bout that Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
wasn't a criticism Larry... believe I gave you the benefit of the doubt when I asked "were you being fictitious?" however if the shoe fits (then like Cinderella) you own it. only you can ultimately make that determination. or were you simply being fictitious, clever? as for considering the source, you should always do exactly that... and that is what I am doing. I'm considering the source of our demoralization & ultimate failures as a fan-base in last years fiasco of a season.
If he really plays up to his reputation, I'd have expected him to draw 10 flags a year. He draws half that many and ranks in the middle among corners for penalties. Maybe he is a little chippy, but no more than Steve Smith is from the offensive side. He takes it to the whistle and a little beyond, trying to get into a WR's head. However, he doesn't intentionally do the helmet to knee bullcrap that we see from the real dirty players like DJ Swearinger. Off the field, unlike Incognito, Cortland is a saint. The kind of guy you'd be happy for your daughter to marry.
I agree with this guy. http://www.miamidolphins.com/multim...Finnegan/82b18977-cc4f-4e14-bb16-e3da1d8e0f71
So, you think his bad rep is pretty much made up. Interesting. Actually, he has done exactly what you say DJ Swearinger does. Just to begin, I know of two incidents where Finnegan has deliberately gone after the head of a player when their helmet has fallen off. One, I described in this very thread that I witnessed personally and you guys haven't commented on at all. Call me a liar if you want, but I know what I saw. And, those aren't the only incidents. Punching Andre Johnson in the throat and then the face to instigate the infamous fight sure springs to mind. And, Johnson isn't known as a troublesome player. In fact, outside of him deservedly beating Finnegan upside his head, I can't recall any time the guy has been in trouble. As far as marrying my daughter... I wouldn't believe an ESPN fluff piece is a 100% true example of any player's character. Especially when I know better about said player. Just because he had a sister with down syndrome that died when she was 8, and he has a charitable foundation, that doesn't excuse horrible behavior on the field that I've witnessed with my own eyes. But, I appreciate you answering the question. You think his rep is made up, and you site his lack of penalties as evidence. Some could say the lack of penalties just means he's learned to cheat without getting caught, but, you assume it means he's a misunderstood player that plays with passion. Gotcha. I'll just say I don't agree with you, and, we can leave it at that.
i'm a huge fan of finnegan but it does seem his game has fallen off. if he was playing the way he did a few years back i would be thrilled. now its a wait and see approach. now that we signed finnegan we should resign incognito lol and make sure we dont sign any future jon martins
wait a minute.. You're complaining about the Jets "overpaying" for Decker yet you guys signed Mike Wallace for that ridiculous deal? Wallace isn't worth half of that money.
First off comparing the ability of Mike Wallace and Eric Decker is a point not worth exploring. Second off Decker has had the luxury of the GOAT throwing him the football wich he will take a SIGNIFICANT downgrade as far as QBs go. Wallace downgraded also and it showed. But RT is an ascending QB and if he fixes his deep ball issues Wallace won't miss a beat. Decker was successful because Manning found him out of breaks, comebacks, slants...all throws you need an accurate QB to execute. Eric Decker won't even put up Brian Hartline numbers in Ny.
I don't think I said it's made up. If he is as bad as the perception, why isn't he drawing personal flags every other game or so? Could it be he's somewhere in between? Yes hitting a guy in the head with his helmet off is bad, but what had happened earlier in the game between the two? Maybe something, maybe not. As for the second incident, the one with Andre Johnson, who ripped off whose helmet first? Most players when asked consider going for the knees the worst kind of egregious act by a defender. Do you have any recollection of his intentionally going for a player's knee with his helmet or shoulder pad? I'd be more concerned about Delmas doing that. I don't need to 100% believe the ESPN story. Even if it's 75% accurate he looks like the total opposite off the field as his rep on the field.
