Looking at the raiders it appears they've picked up 2 OTs. Maybe Menelik is available for the right price. We've a need, he's well known in Florida, might he fit us? We've mugged the raiders before, should we try again?

Like a trade for him? He was pretty raw coming out, but has a ton of upside? How did he do last year?

He didn't really do anything last year. 2 games I think. A trade yeah. They've maybe decided he isn't the one. Perhaps a cheeky 3rd and conditional 7th? I don't really know, I'm hypothesising

I think he was suffering through some injury problems last year, hence not seeing the field much. I wouldn't mind if we traded for him, as liked him pre-draft last year, might be worth an enquiry.

Are there any Seminoles fans who can make a better judgment than me?

I find it difficult to believe Menelik Watson has already become a bust when he was unhealthy for a lot of camp and the regular season and hasn't had much playing time.

They have Austin Howard and Donald Penn. They also have Khalif Barnes at tackle.

But the guard situation is real weak with just Kevin Boothe and Mike Brisiel. Boothe has already looked like he's losing it and he's 31 years old this year.

I had heard whispers when the Raiders bought Rodger Saffold that they actually wanted him to play guard. The money looked high for a guard of course but that was the rumor. I wonder if they have the same thing in mind for Donald Penn. That's what I would have been tempted to do with Penn, if I were Tampa.

The camp competition will likely guide everything here but it wouldn't surprise me to see Menelik Watson ending up the starting left tackle while Donald Penn moves inside to left guard and Mike Brisiel plays right guard. Khalif Barnes and Kevin Boothe would be utility backups. Boothe is able to play center and either guard spot. Barnes is able to play right and left tackle.

Cheers CK. A far more nuanced post than my 'go grab him' post.

I sure do not recall anyone, at least around here, projecting Watson as a top 10. He went at almost exactly where he was projected to go, by my recollection.

I think last year they planned on Tony Bergstrom starting at LG. He got hurt late in preseason, a foot I think, and missed the regular season. Steve Wisniewski, the former Raider great, who was also their Asst OL coach for a while, really likes him from what I hear. He had a lot to do with the team drafting Bergstrom. If his foot is healed, I'd expect him to have a good chance at being the LG. Foot injuries are often unpredictable though.

I think this think epitomizes fans.

    D. Thomas our own offensive line pick that didn't see the field is crap but we should trade for another guy who had the same problem.

Hey I'd be delighted to see Thomas get on the field. I don't think suggesting options is a bad thing. I'm a pretty regular poster suggesting players are given time to develop.

So uhm Dion Jordan and Jamar Taylor or Menelik Watson, who was most certainly a all pro waiting to happen, or at least that is what was said in Draft 2013.

    Objectively, looks like a push

We gave up a pick for DJ so it's more like DJ and JT or menelik and Eddie lacy and whoever we wanted at 12.

Trading up for Jordan cost us someone like Sheldon Richardson or Tyler Eifert, plus Watson. If you could right now trade Jordan for one of those two, just for a small example, plus Watson, or anyone else taken from #42 down to our pick of Taylor, would you do it?

That was the sort of thinking at the time, Watson was being touted as "can't miss"

As for your query Mr C

    NO

Dio is a dominant type player, who can get after the Qb or erase a Te, a modern version of Adalius Thomas with more upside, it took Thomas yrs to make the impact he wound up making, Dio is on a faster track

I see the point but I think most people were more concerned with how Thomas based on how he looked in preseason. I mean it was like watching a trainwreck out there.

Yup. Bums me out watching coverage of FA because inevitably they end up talking about the impact of previous draft picks. It's not accurate but it seems like they were all a huge impact.

Not nearly as talented as his cousin Randy.
