The only real negative of the PC version is that it has a 60 FPS cap. Otherwise it should be personal preference.

I'm on PC because PC is teh bestest.

I've gotten pretty used to the iPad companion app now. It's pretty useful; it alerts you when you're in an area that one of your treasure maps applies to, for instance. I also think it's a better way to look through the database than the in-game menu.

I'd say this is on par with BF4's Commander app.

Doubt it. Phone screens aren't large enough to present the information in a viewable manner. Tablets also have better battery life, so you can keep the screen up longer.

I've been managing Kenway's Fleet via the iPad app at work. It's a nice way to farm some extra money. Getting the various rewards is nice as well.

Ubisoft is really good at trailers.

Also, Assassin's Creed Pirates is out on the 5th.

I wonder how this one will work, will it take place just in Haiti? or are there new islands we can go to.

The marketing line is that it takes place in Port-au-Prince, nothing has been said about new islands. Adewale is shipwrecked and without weapons at the start, and there are only 9 story missions, so I don't see how they can work a big naval world in.

Freedom Cry was supposed to be out yesterday on all platforms. Ubi delayed the PC version and announced it the day of release on their forums. Way to go, Ubi. It's like you have an internal promotion system for the group that screws with PC gamers the best.

Freedom Cry is out. So far, so meh. It feels a little rushed. There's not much polish in the presentation.

It's the only one announced. Probably is the only one, yes.

They don't have anywhere to go with the story at this point. Edward's ending was written in the AC3 novel, and AC3 in general caps what they can do with this era/character group.

At this point they'll lay off AC so as to build hype for Watch Dogs, which may actually take place in the AC world. Then they'll announce AC5 at E3 as normal.

Already nabbed a 25% discount on it when I bought the AC4 season pass, so the savings are about equal.

Should be fun to run through when it's out, though I've spoiled the story for myself already.

Assassin's Creed Liberation HD is out. This isn't AC4 DLC, it's a standalone game, a port/upgrade of the PSP version.

If you liked Freedom Cry this is probably for you.

Anyone else following AC Initiates? It's basically Ubi's way of contributing bit by bit content year round to the modern AC universe. They're using it to drop hints about the next AC game.

So far, "no samurai in AC5" is confirmed by Jade Raymond, the series producer. And AC Initiates has been sending out coded messages pointing to coordinates in Alberta, Canada and Barguzin, Russia.

I'm generally not one for ARGs, but when they add something to the game's universe, and when they're as well done as Initiates, I start keeping up.

The AC Wiki has a nice collection of all the Initiates content. The interesting stuff begins in the timeline after AC3.

Kotaku: Leaked images reveal one of two new Assassin's Creed games for this fall

The environments shown in the screenshots are in progress as hell but still look like an HD version of AC2, which is amazing.

meh. I love me some AC, but the French Revolution just seems like more of the same. I can't see how the enviornments would be all that different from Italy, and would in all likelyhood be more boring. I was hoping for Japan.

Wait, are you implying that the Italian setting was boring? Because it definitely wasn't.

As for architectural differences, yes, French architecture and buildings are different from Italian Renaissance architecture and buildings, especially since the time periods are 300 years apart. There might be some parallels in the Baroque style of Brotherhood's Rome and quarters of Paris in Unity, but you aren't going to sit there and say "Boy, this looks exactly like Venice!" Because it won't.

The architecture was what I was getting at. Not that I felt that italy was boring, but they've done it twice already. I'm also not a fan of the historical period.
the early 19th century sucks lol.

I can understand not liking the historical period, but don't drag the buildings into it. Though I don't know why you'd be upset with the ability to kill Frenchies.

The architecture isn't very similar at all. There might be SOME Baroque parallels between the Rome of Brotherhood (which wasn't historically accurate, Ubisoft changed it up to give us something new to look at) and a few buildings in Paris at the time. That's about it. The French Neoclassic will remind you more of Washington DC than Renaissance Italy.

Google image search for French rococo architecture and French neoclassicism architecture. You'll see a lot of that.

I'm more worried about the player assassin, Arno, than I am about the setting.

What I miss the most are the missions where you would go into a large buiding/dungeon, and have to figure out and climb your way to a prize. Those have been almost non-existant in the last few.

The Assassin dungeons were in 4; that's what the diving bell was used for.

They were gone from 3, though, without an equivalent, and I agree that was to 3's detriment.

The diving bell sucked so badly. I hated it and only did a few. Blindly swimming in the dark and then attacking a few guys while nearly weaponless isn't my idea of fun, lol.

I can't get into assassins creed 4 for some reason. I don't know if it's the layout of the world, or the pirate angle, or maybe I'm just burned out on the series? Weird.

I do feel like I'm aimlessly wandering, and then the real time storyline is weird without Desmond. Wandering around Abstergo with nothing to do is weird also.

I agree that the modern day story is weird without Desmond… at first. But then things tie in nicely, and once you get access to start hacking things (a nice link with Watch Dogs…) then it becomes more interesting. Ultimately you can find some rather… interesting information.

My suggestion is to start keeping up with the Initiates. You can log in with your Uplay account. Check under the Surveillance section and you'll get "real-time" updates on the modern day characters both old and new. This site is the equivalent of an AC offseason. The updates are very well written; I enjoyed the segments that occurred in Japan and Russia. They're also using this to reintroduce William Miles to the series.
