I look at it with fourth grade logic. Quite simply. Richie is an a**hole, just like Ireland is an a**hole. The less a**holes you have around your organization, the better. There are times when an a**hole is so good at what he does that it makes sense to put up with him because of what he brings to the table, but Richie is no Larry Little or Bob Kuechenberg when it comes to playing guard. Thanks, Richie, but no thanks, and good luck.

Forget the details of the Wells report. They literally do not matter. Just throw it out.

You're still left with a guy who molested a woman at team sponsored charity event and he was ok at his job. Not great, just ok. His level of play is not worth the amount of hell that would rain down on us for resigning him.

Just look at what he's done, as a player here. Has he made the OL any better, or just been 'the better of the evils' at LG or RG for us ?? He simply isn't that great of a player. His contract was up and unless he was going to take a serious home-town discount, he wasn't going to be invited back here...that was what was going to happen before the Wells report and such...he's just another guard and wouldn't improve the team any...

He won't be back for those reasons, despite the Wells report and the circus he brings...

As many have already said, I think it would be a HUGE PR mistake to bring Cogs back. And, the reality is his level of play simply doesn't justify bringing him back.

I think what we're seeing is a complete overhaul of the O-line (and rightfully so). So, I think the chances of Cogs coming back are slim to none. And, slims just left town.

Yes the 300 pound male professional athlete bullying victim who out of all the mutual berating back and forth that admittedly goes on between numerous players in that locker room only he (supposedly mind you) took offense or couldn't handle it. In addition not only did this victim not set boundaries like most normal people would do if it offended him, he actually participated frequently in the exact same banter escalating the issue and setting that standard of communication as peachy keen within the relationships of those involved.
Anyone still clinging to this Martin is a victim fallacy needs a serious reality check.

His size and his sex have nothing to do with it. That's really simplistic. Why not just say big men don't have feelings. What does Martin gain from all this? Universal derision and snickering. Nobody ever takes part in things like this to try and fit in? I'm not arguing we ditch incognito for the Martin stuff alone. I've already stated the golf course, the previous fines, this, and the fact that he is 30 and not exactly a world beater all add up to not bringing him back.

now, here comes the onion! there are none so blind as those that refuse to see... it is what it is

    what's not to like?
    Albert - Smith - Pouncey - Incognito - Z. Martin
one of many possibilities that could work, maybe the best & it's doable.

I dislike the Incognito part of that quite a bit.

He is a headache and a hassle that we no longer need. He has been given MANY chances to prove himself, and has FAILED EVERY SINGLE TIME. Yet some people want to give him another one? Are you all that battered? I hate to make light of a serious situation like spousal abuse, but man you guys are exhibiting the same traits. "He wasn't that bad, he's changed, he will be better this time, he just needs another chance!"

No, cut the cord and find a better person and player to fill the slot. We do NOT need Incognito, nor should we want him. Richie Incognito does not bring this team a super bowl, he does not make us better. He WILL bring distractions, unwanted media attention and "tsk tsking", disgrace, sub-par line play and a host of trouble.

therein lies a major part of the problem, texanphinatic. you are comparing it to spousal abuse. unfortunately, in the minds & hearts of many amongst us, this has become an emotional issue that suffers a constant barrage of inappropriate comparisons & unfair accusations.

apparently, his Dolphin team mates support him & they are the ones that play the game. the real question & only viable one that you should be asking yourself is... do you want to win?

my thought is much less complex. we are rebuilding an offensive line & the return of Incognito would be conducive (not only) to the rebuilding process but would give us the best possible chance at post-season in 2014.

I have no dog in this race. I am simply a Dolfan that wants to win, but Philbin is a coach that has to win this year. anything can happen under these circumstances.

wouldn't rule it out of the realm of possibilities, even a probability!

As Philbin wanted him gone before, and hickey seems to be trying to please him I doubt there is even the remotest possibility of his return. I like your line. However, we've a second year player I wanna see step up so ALBERT - SMITH - POUNCEY - THOMAS - MARTIN please.

If Incognito was all All-Pro and Elite Guard there would still be doubters wanting him back. Its irrelevant and a total waste of time imo having this mute and irrelevant topic. I actually think the ppl on here wanting him back are either extremely ignorant or selfish regarding the bad press, PR and the way OUR team has looked to outside eyes and opinions. Incognito won't be a Dolphin player again. Thankfully. Good luck to him but ive moved on a long time ago. Onwards and upwards.

I agree most people have an opinion. What is most likely and hard to prove is he was "ordered" to toughen up Martin - a "code red" if you will. None of us know all the facts, not even the investigators. Philbin knew about it along with Ireland that much I am sure of. If he didn't know he should of. The fact is Richie won't be brought back because Philbin is a ***** and unable to control his players. Hate that mother ****er

Trading Martin signals that we recognize he was wronged and want to do right by him by sending him somewhere comfortable close to home, family, and familiar faces.

Trading Martin then resigning Incognito signals that we wanted to get rid of Martin and implicitly support Richie Incognito.

I don't care what the actual intent is, signaling is a thing and the Dolphins haven't been good at it in a very long time. Possibly longer than my time as a fan of the team. Incognito was not, is not, and never will be good enough to make up for the ****ty personality. Mike Pouncey is a keeper because of both his talent level and the fact that he wasn't a major player in the media hoopla. He is only known to people who read the report so he flies under the radar so to speak. Richie leaving does good on multiple fronts:

    1. Potential compensatory pick.

    2. Signals that we've started fresh enough. Pouncey is still here, but the reality is that people won't fault you for keeping a guy who is arguably playing at an All-Pro level, and is only 24.

    3. Allows us to upgrade the position. With Wharton on the market and some solid options in the draft both high and low (Bitonio is a surefire Guard, potential RT), we don't need the guy.

    4. Regardless of perceptions, the guy was a *******.

    Let the Raiders have him.

  15. Im kind of over this topic but on one last final note I will say this

Miami needs Cogs more than he needs them.

If Philbin had a half of a clue he would bring Cogs back
