Haven't heard a word about Keller's rehab, which may be telling. He's a FA, hasn't scheduled any visits and has a decent resume, aside from the last two years. I'd guess that he's not ready for visits yet because of the damage to his knee. There were reports that there was NOT any nerve damage, but perhaps there was afterall.... I'd love to see him back here to 'prove it' again, but two things are against that...1) he's going to be shaky coming off the knee problem. That wasn't a 'run of the mill' ACL, it was an ACL, MCL and dislocation and 2) he's really exactly what Gates is for us right now. Gates, while not exactly putting himself in the elite category, has progressed quite well, better than expected you might say. The thing is, both players (when healthy) are very similar and do similar things, although Keller is probably slightly better blocker and perhaps even a smidge faster...?? I'd guess that we don't see any movement on Keller until later in the summer...

pls sub Clay where I wrote Gates....doh...

That description of that injury to such an important part of a football players anatomy doesn't bode well imo especially as I've heard nothing regarding his rehabilitation. I would have expected something by now in the press or from him. This was a car crash when it comes to a knee. Fingers crossed for him. Was gutted when he got cheap shotted as I really felt Keller would have made some plays and been a good outlet for Tanny. I'm not holding my breath though. Shame.

Gates? Some kind of Freudian slip? ;)

You mean, Clay. And agreed otherwise.

One of my biggest disappointments from last year. Shame is right.

Was Keller's contract fully guaranteed last year?

I don't believe it was, but since he was carried all year on IR he still got paid his entire base salary.

His contract was for 4.25 mil. 1 mil signing bonus and 3.25 base. 2.25 mil was guaranteed. So if he got his full base, then he got the full 4.25 mil?

The Dolphins, on their own website posted yesterday that Moreno had completed his visit with the club. Friday, not today. Strange. Gotta love the good old reliable media. I think I'll rely on the Dolphins webpage itself over the media.

Since he was on IR all year, I see no reason he wouldn't get it all.

  10. I hope he got everything. It was a work related injury. I really hate how much wiggle room there is for teams to not pay players what they agree to.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Moreno is some special player or arguing that he's going to make all-pro. He's not a fantastic player, but he's better than what we have. He's a better receiver and blocker than Miller and Thomas, and he's probably a better runner between the tackles than both of our guys too. To keep with your method, if you take away Miller's best game vs Cincy he averaged 3.8/carry. Like someone said: Moreno/Miller > Miller/Thomas. I'd go with MJD if the $ was equal, but who knows where that stands. It's all about cost, of course.

Signing Moreno is, in a way, a vote of confidence in Miller, oddly enough. Moreno's probably not going to be a feature back, so I think he'd serve as more of a security purpose should Miller not pan out to become a legit full-time workhorse. Miller would get more carries with Moreno in the backfield than he would with Jeremy Hill or Tre Mason there, for instance.

Personally, I think not getting Tannehill a workhorse feature back is a major mistake, and one that is really hindering his development. I think the staff needs to go out and get a legit feature guy in the draft and make Miller more of a backup rather than a split-starter as I just don't think he'll ever be more than a 10-12 carry guy if that. But I guess we'll see. I see why the staff would want to give Miller another year to seize the job; I just disagree that he projects to the level we need and they think he can reach. I think Moreno would give us stability and a decent committee with Miller, but I personally want to move away from that cheaper makeshift committee approach. Go out a get a stud.

I wouldn't. It would be a mistake not letting Thomas play out his contract. He's a good back and will be proven in Lazors offense.

What has Thomas shown while he has been here that he's a good RB?

He's shown he does not have good vision, and for a big back, he's not really good at yards after contact. He is not a good blocker in pass protection.

He's a good back? Each to their own but I disagree. Rather have Miller/Moreno combo everytime.

His pass protection has been rock solid up until last season. I feel okay saying he's a good pass blocker as well as a third down receiving option. I feel he gas underutilized hands and YAC ability.

Not the best runner as you stated but he's not TERRIBLE either. We could do worse.

I don't think you can say his pass protection has been rock solid up to this point. I think you can say he's had stretches where he did good and was solid. But he's had his low lights as well. I think overall he's been average to below average at best in pass protection, since he's came into the league.

Thomas was our most reliable back last year, especially before the high ankle sprain. I like Miller but I don't see any reason to hand him the job, or the backup spot.

Last season IMO was the only time he's had any real "low points" in my eyes. Now obviously you can't discard a full season so in a sense I agree with you.

I dont think any RB on the roster is good. Moreno isnt anything special either but he is as good and probably better that what we currently have.

The offense in general played against our Running backs skills. Thomas got 2 carries against the Jets and 9 against the Bills. A complete lack of in game adjustments, blocking assignments, and commitment to running the ball, basically poor coaching by Sherman and Turner, made us one damintional, doomed the running game and pass protection. Thomas was given double digit carries in only 4 games and in 3 out of the 4 he produced excellent results and we also won 3 of the 4 games he was given 10 or more carries. Thomas was also a QB. I didn't see Sherman let him pass the ball once. Just complete incompatence by Sheriman and Philbins ability to assign coordinators in his first year.

He did well pass blocking as a rookie, but has struggled ever since.

As a runner, his best YAC avg came in 2012 with 2.3, which placed him in the bottom half of RBs. His best avg per carry was the 3.7 he got last year.
As a rookie in 2011, he was 59th out of 67 backs in avg per carry with 3.5 and yac of 1.9.
In 2012, he was 47th out of 59 with 3.6 and yac of 2.3.
In 2013, he was 39th out of 55 with 3.7 and yac of 2.0

I guess you could say it's mostly the line's fault and he's not really terrible, unless you watch him and see him often miss wide open cutback lanes or hit the wrong hole.

I had a dream last night that we signed Moreno. Not saying he is my dream player, just had that dream. Guess we didn't.

I've been thinking. Moreno was only being paid $1.7 million by the Broncos last year. By all accounts he had a great year for them, but they are not bringing him back. Do they not think he is worth $1.7 or is he asking for a lot more?

Are you using YAC as yards after contact or yards after catch? I was speaking after catch.

after contact. His yards after catch last year was 5.9, which isn't anything special.
Shady McCoy was 11.2. Pierre Thomas was 8.6, for example.

I would guess he is looking for twice that number.

Donald Brown, Toby Gerhart and Ben Tate all got 3.5 Million Per. MJD is openly seeking 3.5 per.

Can't imagine Moreno's number would be far off.

A lot of that has to do with the offense's ability to get its backs the ball in space. Sherm's philosophy was more about using his backs as pass protectors than getting then in space. Which is *** backwards bc they're both better as receivers than pass protectors. The OL was better man blocking than zone, the front 7 on D was better suited to running a 3-4 than a 4-3. RT is better on the move than he is standing in the pocket. The problem was team wide.

This is pro ball we're talking about, the margin of error is razor thin, no team has the luxury of using their players inefficiently and expecting overall talent to compensate for it.

I'd rather pay the 3.5 than use a 2nd round pick on a rookie. Moreno is a vet, he brings attitude and toughness along with his talent and that's something we were sorely lacking last year.

I still say we ought add Ronnie Brown as a full back and to run an occasional wildcat play and or bring back Polite as a fullback and then draft two really good running backs and cut Thomas and move Miller to special teams and use as a third down back .

  33. I agree.

I think going after the big money FA's looking for a homerun is the wrong approach. I much rather see them make reasonable contract offers to players that offer solid play and look for the homeruns in the draft.

Signing Albert was probably a mistake they made out of desperation. They should be looking to sign people like Moreno and Mr unpopular Incognito. You have a pretty good idea of what they bring, there is always the chance that things come together for players like them and they have a probowl season/s for you and if it goes the other way and they flop you dont have much invested in them.

I have nothing against Wallace, Ellerbee, or Wheeler but in hindsight I think the money invested in them could of been put to better use.

If you cut Thomas the 3.5 becomes 2.7. If healthy, I'd rather give MJD the nod but Moreno is still better than a rookie.

Moreno wasn't better than Eddy Lacy so that's wrong, and Eddy is only going to get better.

Polite is done. He hasn't played since midway of 2012 and even then wasn't the same player the Dolphins had 2 years prior. Ronnie Brown as a backup to a bell cow #1 wouldn't be a bad idea. He's actually been pretty decent in a reserve role in SD the past couple of years. He's 32 now though, and at that age a RB could lose it at any time. I think I'd trust him as a pass protector over either back we currently have too.

I have no problem w cutting Thomas if he doesn't perform but given what we have at RB right now why not at least give him a chance to compete?

Just an FYI...I saw on NFLN yesterday that we are still in talks with Moreno. Hoping we sign him.
