Yes, he didn't deserve it. There were some genuinely atrocious displays of zone blocking in the first part of the season.
Culpepper instead of Brees was pretty terrible too. I would say worse than john jerry or wilson. Imagine if we had Brees since 2006.
I would put Culpepper, Jerry, and Wilson all way ahead of Don McNeal. McNeal appeared totally worthy of being a 1st round draft pick, until injuries ruined his career. People remember him missing the tackle on Riggins, but without his stellar corner play that season the team probably does not even get to the Super Bowl. Eric Kumerow was also a FAR WORSE pick than McNeal. So was Jackie Shipp. Padre is all wet on his anti McNeal diatribe.
