Since it so so dead around here I figured I would give a mock draft a shot. I am basing it off of the draft order that is posted (plus the GB/OAK trade) and current team pages, some of which probably need some updating. 1 Detroit - QB Teddy Bridgewater If you are happy with Mallett then they could pass on a QB, but new GM didn't acquire Mallett 2 Seattle - WR Sammy Watkins Not to many holes, could upgrade the OL or finish off the playmakers 3 Jacksonville - DL Jadevon Clowney Could go QB, but go with BPA 4 Washington - OT Greg Robinson Could go in alot of directions, but Robinsons run blocking would be good for this offense 5 Denver - QB Blake Bortles Need a QB after trading Peyton 6 Buffalo - LB Khalil Mack Could go playmaker, or finish of the front 7 7 Philadelphia - LB Anthony Barr 8 Minnesota - WR Mike Evans Could use a #1 WR. Could trade back to nab a safety 9 New England - DL Aaron Donald Need a WR too, but DL is a need too 10 Pittsburgh -OT Jake Matthews BPA and fits a big need 11 Seattle - OT Taylor Lewan Fills a need 12 NY Giants - TE Eric Ebron Fills huge offensive need - provides another playmaker besides Cruz 13 Denver - DL Timmy Jernigan Could go many ways here - Could go anywhere on defense 14 Atlanta - LB CJ Mosley Would be nice an MLB 15 Chicago - QB Johnny Manziel Big need unless they are content with Hoyer 16 Dallas - QB Derek Carr Hoping one of the top 3 QBs fall, if not could trade down, but currently have no QBs 17 St. Louis - WR Brandin Cooks Tavon Austin 2.0 18 NY Jets - CB Darqueze Dennard Starter opposite Millner, could opt for Gilbert 19 Miami - WR Marqise Lee Big need after trading Wallace and Hartline 20 Arizona - WR Kelvin Benjamin Need to replace Fitzgerald 21 Green Bay - LB Ryan Shazier Not alot of holes, could upgrade LB. Could make a move for Mosley too 22 Tampa Bay - OL Zack Martin Should step in at RT 23 Kansas City - WR Odell Beckham Need someone opposite Bowe 24 Cincinnati - CB Justin Gilbert Could go Dix or Pryor here to, anywhere in secondary 25 Miami - S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix Finally upgrade on Clemons - BPA here also 26 Cleveland - S Calvin Pryor Good safety combo with Ward 27 New Orleans - DL Louis Nix I didn't even look at roster/don't care 28 Carolina - WR Davante Adams Roster isn't updated, so i just guessed a WR 29 Indianapolis - WR Allen Robinson Huge need, only have TY currently as a starter 30 Houston - DL Kony Ealy 31 Houston - DE/OLB Dee Ford 32 Houston - OG Xavier Sua-Filo Who knows where these picks go. Could use some front 7 and OL help.
When doing the mock, it really shows you the talent disparity. I think there are like 10-12 really good prospects, the problem is i'm not sure any of those guys are QBs. If QBs don't go high then the middle of the 1st round gets weaker, unless you need a QB. There is alot of secondary, DL and WR talent, but OL and LB gets weak very fast.
Like the mock, they are always fun. As far as my team goes I like the way my top 3 WRs compliment eachother, not to mention Aaron Rodgers can make good WRs look VERY good. Cooks will be a solid pro but at 17? I'd have to have a lot of my targets go then fail at trading down.
The bears are content with their QB situation. Not only do they return the best starter they had last year, they also add a young QB would showed last year in CLE that he is more than capable of being a productive NFL starter. Although they feel great with the talent on roster, there is no question the reason they were the #2 offense in the NFL last year is because or Trestman.. The quarterback whisperer.
Bears would like it to be known that they feel they have a quality starter at every position. They will go into the draft with a purely BPA approachnwith 3 of the top 51 picks
Also FWIW, The Steelers have a pretty solid OL with Roos-Foster-Wells-Beachum-Gilbert and solid depth. I wont dismiss Jake Matthews as its not outlandish like saying I need a QB or WR but its not a high priority at pick 10.
IMO If Matthews falls you take him and laugh all the way to the bank. Roos is good but getting older. Play Matthews at RT until Roos retires then flip him over and be set for ten years.
You don't really have a lot of urgent needs but when quickly looking at your team page, OL stood out. IMO you have one solid starter and 4 average to below average ones.
Ealy and Ford won't be Texans. Filo I like........but with having 5 of the top 50 picks I could probably sit on that till later.
I could view it that way but its also not a dynasty league, its set on the premise of a 1 year league. PFF says otherwise. Granted they should really be used to validate what one watches but Roos, Foster, and Beachum/Colon (RG) are above average last year Gilbert is average and Wells was hurt part of the year. Beachum graded out average as a rookie LT (where he saw some time), he also played guard and played better there. Im not putting it in contention for best OL but its not urgent either which if I had 4 average to below average players it would be.
And the defense mechanism's have arrived. In Boiks defense, most voters don't look at OL sadly. To win the crowd you must surround yourself with fancy WRs and Pass Rushers. Not all of US can have at all.
If Miami took Brandin Cooks at 19 (in real life, not the GML) I'd be pretty happy with that. Kid just makes things happen. And, if you look at Tannehill's propensity to throw it to the slot - Ryan Swope at Texas A&M, Davone Bess in 2012, Gibson/Matthews/Clay in 2013, someone like Cooks just seems like it'd make a ton of sense...probably TOO MUCH sense for Miami. Appreciate the Mock Draft UCF. Cincinnati is patiently waiting to use its bevy of picks.
I dont see it as a defense mechanism so much as I see it as factually incorrect Cooks at 19 would have me hurling chunks. Hes not a top 5 wr in this draft class in my opinion. I dont see a reason he should be picked at all before 45 when theres a half a dozen wr better.
I disagree with the first part. No-one keeps their team but voting should be not just based on how good your team is for onr season but also how they look long term. That is why there is a category for team built to win now.
Youre correct that theres only 1 category for a team built to win now. Thats 1 more category than there is for "Best accumulation of young players" or "Best team for a 5 year run"
IMO GM of the Year should... Have acquired a nice mix of win now and later Factors such as previous talent coupled with what you had to work with as far as assets. (Cap room, Draft) Some teams were stacked with high draft picks talent and cap room, IMO you better do a damn good job if you start out with the right tools. A good example is lil miss Todd, yes he inherited the SB champs but they didn't have much in terms of space and picks. He has now improved his roster and has 2 high 1st round picks. He's doing very well.
Not really. GM of the Year is for the best job done by a GM given their initial resources and the team theyve assembled imo. So youre saying Phinsational has been sen-sa-tional?
Ill reveal this because I have no plans to draft a WR at this time.... Evans Watkins Jordan Matthews *** IMO he might be the surest thing of any WR, maybe any player...high floor but also high ceiling. Jerry Rice's 2nd cousin. If hes there at Miami's round 2 pick and we dont pick him, Im prepared to be very disappointed. Kelvin Benjamin Marquise Lee In that order.
This is a deep WR class IMO... Off the top of my head? Watkins Evans Lee (people easily forget) Matthews Beckham Adams
Isnt there a team built for future award? I've been watching alot of WRs game film on draftbreakdown.com. I really don't get the fascination with Benjamin, I don't like him at all. Suspect hands, not very fast and doesn't look like a good route runner from the games I saw. Plus isn't he like 23 or 24 already? There are alot of WRs in the 2/3 round range that I really like. Adams, Robinson, Herron, Ellington
