I didn't say it did preclude him from improving his deep ball.

I'm saying that if Ryan keeps improving but he and Wallace still can't hook up correctly, then the problem is Wallace. I'm saying that based on the point you made about how every other WR has had their best years with Ryan.

Not the first time he's reported it....and he's still the only one reporting it. LaCan'tReport has been wrong about 99% of dolphins stuff for years. Why would anyone believe him now.

Is Wallace a Philbin guy? IDK is why I am asking. Philbin is putting his mark on this team concerning who he wants and who he doesn't especially now with his chemistry with Hickey. All I can say is if Wallace does get traded we better get some great compensation in return and then draft a speedy WR because with Wallace we have no one who can stretch the field.

Not if Wallace's skill-set is just mismatched. If Tannehill can't hit Wallace deep and Wallace is getting open deep, then that's a mismatch of skills. Blame can't reasonably be assigned unless Mike Wallace plays the 2015 season in Miami. If Tannehill doesn't connect will with Wallace, but is still the QB in 2015, and Mike Wallace still plays here, then the people who kept both together are to blame. We're still gathering information on both players honestly and it's just not enough to assign blame as such. After this season is reasonable because you KNOW whether he's going to get the deep game down and whether Wallace will be giving full effort.

Getting open deep is not the only thing Wallace needs to do. He needs to get open deep without disrupting the timing. If he's getting open deep before or after he's supposed to, then its pointless in this offense. OK not pointless by itself. Pointless if you disrupt the timing and won't go and get the damn ball.

He came from a non precision offense. The Steelers offense was little more than run, run, let Big Rape shake off tacklers until Wallace was behind the defense. If that was our offense then Wallace is perfect. Its not though. Again, Tannehill has shown an uncanny ability for his experience level to raise the game of every worthwhile receiver he's played with.....except Wallace. That tells me the problem is Wallace.

But trading Wallace is going to cost you money this year to the tune of $11.0 million in dead cap space I believe vs $17.25 million to keep him. So unless you think that you can get a wr for $6 million to replace him then you'll end up spending more money on the position this year not less. Next year and beyond, his contract is much easier to unload. IMO you live with Wallace this year and hope he and RT can get on the same page.

Does anyone have a stat that shows Wallace's percentage of completed catches of balls thrown more than 35yds in the air while he was in Pittsburgh?

Not if you're on a one year leash. If you have a job you want done or you'll be fired, $11 million in dead space is nothing to eat. I suspect Ross would be willing to listen to Philbin/Hickey for two reasons:

    1. Philbin has his ear.
    2. He blames Ireland for the signing. I think he really wants to keep Philbin and will go to undue lengths to give Philbin a chance to succeed.

I say undue because Philbin has certainly not earned a vote of confidence. Even Sparano got players to vouch for him unprovoked.

Well, that certainly explains all the bodily fluids around here.

  18. The problem is the coaching staff not being able to figure how to use one of the tools they have in their toolbox. If they were to trade Wallace for less than they gave to get him it is an indictment on Hickeys confidence in Philbin.

The truth is always in-between. We definitely did not - in any way, shape or form, take advantage of Wallace's speed by underthrowing him on the majority of passes. Having said that, his inability to fight for the ball - which he may never be able to do - means he is overpaid. but I just can't agree w/'Pate on this one. Arguing that he's overpaid is a moot point. You have a guy that can make an impact, find a way to utilize his skill set. adapt some of your plays so he can get some home runs. that's what a good offensive coordinator does. that's what any good leader does, get the most from your talent pool.

  22. He was but they gave him a contract and would take a big hit to move on from him. They need to get value returned for what they have invested

I blame this on coaching. I know ultimately it's on Wallace, but did you see Randy Alligator Arms Moss loafing it on the Patriots? Because he did on the Raiders and the Vikings. Bellichick will bench his star player if they mess up (see Stevan Ridley which almost cost me a fantasy championship last year). If you're the coach, and the player isn't putting the right effort on the field, he sees the bench until he gets it. Plain and simple.

Yeah, I never understood this. If you paid a lot for a player and the player isn't doing what you want, whether you keep him or get rid of him you're still paying. Why not dump him and let someone else get the snaps....

He will do that because they could win without Moss. You wouldn't see him bench Brady.

I think you do that only if you're willing to cut Moore (he's the only one who can save us anything) and are reasonably confident you can replace ~50% of Wallace's deep ball prowess and ~150% of his intermediate prowess, or else ~100% of his deep ball prowess. We can't just replace him with Brandon Gibson.

EDIT: The first combination of replacements is if you think there are a mismatch of skills. The second is if you explicitly either blame Mike Wallace, or else you want to reduce costs.

So we can't win without Wallace?

But he wouldn't bench Brady because Brady has demonstrated he gives 100% effort (and oh yeah is pretty damn good). If Brady in his first year was loafing it he'd be in Belly's dog house.

In Moss' first year with the Patriots if he went alligator arms he'd be benched. So would Wallace. He benched Welker for a series because he made fun of Lard Arse's foot fetish.

If Wallace isn't giving the effort the coaches want to see they need to send him a message and bench his arse. By playing him, it tells me they are okay with his effort.

You saw him fight for the ball more often than not, problem is...one of his worst efforts was on national television and resulted in an interception. He came back and fought for 3 balls vs Carolina (2 were caught) Indy he backtracked, and Baltimore he had to get out of his wow this is an easy 6, to comeback and just get a completion.

He makes big money, so naturally he has a bullseye on his back with common fanbase, it's not supernatural.

    No.

The Pats were already a dynasty when Moss got there. Bellichick had clout. He also had Brady. He could afford to be a hard *** with Moss, because few would question him. Philbin would have been crucified for benching Wallace. Philbin doesn't have Belichick's clout.

Wallace still provided help to the team, even when he was being a *****. The other team had to divert resources to him.

You basically just want to blame Philbin at this point.

If the coaches have a problem with his effort, and they don't either (a) fix it, or (b) bench the player, they're ok with it. Fighting for the ball isn't a skill (being good at it, is). It's an attitude. They don't have to run 50 reps. Of course I blame Philbin. He's the head coach.

And your excuses for Philbin are weak. Belichick had clout because he had a dynasty? Only true if he didn't have a dog house back in Cleveland or his first couple years in New England. You don't win championships by waiting until after winning one to demand excellence. If Philbin needs to win a couple AFC championships or Super Bowls in order to extract excellence from his players then they're never getting there.

    Ugh.

Look, you're being ridiculous per usual. You are pretending we don't live in a world where every move a coach makes in the NFL isn't over analyzed to death. You are pretending that a new coach with zero clout could just outright bench the team's $60 million FA without there being drastic consequences from the media and fans. You're pretending all of this because you are either bored or love to argue with me or are just straight up full of crap. I'm not sure which.

Bellichick could not have benched Moss without repercussions had it not been for the SBs he had already won. Hard *** coaches with no accomplishments get blasted..just look at Schiano. They are coaching men, not teenagers. These men who make more than these coaches won't put up with that BS....unless the coach has a proven track record.

It would suck, but because of the money he's already promised. We lose that money whether he keep him or not. Of course I'd rather get something for the player, but ion the end, if a player is not living up to his contract expectations then getting rid of the player isn't costing you more money then keeping him around, but it is costing you reps of player that may be better.

    *Checks author. Hilarious laughter ensues.*

Who said bench him for whole games? He doesn't have to bench him if they make it clear during the week and practice that his efforts on less than perfect throws are not up to par.

We're not asking for Wallace to suddenly turn into Marvin Harrison on route running. You have Wallace standing there while the DB goes up for the ball to INT it. Wallace is spectating. You are trying to convince us because Philbin hasn't won a Superbowl this isn't something they can correct. If Philbin tells Wallace he needs to fight for the ball or risk getting benched for a series or a quarter, and Wallace doesn't, who does that reflect on?

That tells me they haven't, so they are happy with his effort or are not placing as much importance on it as we fans do.

I don't think you replace Wallace with a wr earning less than $6.0 million and expect better production. So I don't see how this would be an upgrade unless you spend more money, money that could be spent on other aspects of the team. And I think there are areas of the team that need more attention than wr so I'd spend the money there.
