Your analogy is off because no matter how hard a bulldog tries, he'll never run like a greyhound. Wallace is fully capable of fighting for the ball. He didn't get paid $60m in Pitt either.

As far as Ireland goes, I'm glad he was fired and was calling for his dismissal before the season was over.

Which is exactly why many opposed the signing to begin with.

If Wallace just catches the two deep passes I remember that got to his body -- one that hit him in the breadbasket in stride against New Orleans and the one at the end of the game against Carolina -- it seems like 1) Tannehills's percentages on throws 40+ would have been close to league average on those type of deep throws; 2) the Dolphins would have beaten Carolina and hence likely made the playoffs. Both passes had a defender close and maybe a hand touched those balls or maybe they didn't. Still, the throw against New Orleans is the type everyone wants Tannehill to make to Wallace. Hit him in stride deep. The one against Carolina was a broken play a la Ben Roethlisberger where Tannehill made an escape and threw it to Wallace where, if memory serves, the ball got to his body as he was falling over the goal line... and then dropped to the ground.

As everyone is saying there were quite a few overthrows and underthrows from Tannehill to Wallace. Both of those happen to other QBs... Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger, etc. And it's pretty apparent that fighting for a ball isn't one of Wallace's strengths. I would think catch radius in general isn't one of his strengths. He did get open deep quite a few times, though, where good passes would have meant huge plays. After watching JUST last year, it seemed like deep ball accuracy wasn't Tannehill's strength, and maybe it's not. But the year before as a rookie, I remember him hitting Hartline on a couple of go patterns and being pretty good on 20+ throws in general, and it didn't look like the deep ball was all that big a problem. Then, with Wallace, it seemed to be.

Most probably thought when Wallace signed his deal that we weren't going to get commensurate value from the signing but that having Wallace would help our offense as a whole. That's what played out. Wallace is nowhere near worth the money we're paying him, but our passing game was more effective with Wallace and Hartline on the exterior than it was with Hartline and Bess lining up there. Certainly, I don't want to go back to the latter, but I do think there's probably a happy medium where we get an athletic WR with a pretty good catch radius on the outside working with Hartline which would make our passing game better than it worked last year. With the money we're paying Wallace, it seems like we could afford that AND a slot guy, the type, like Swope, that Tannehill favored when he played at A&M. Personally, I don't see how any team is going to trade for Wallace - not giving up a draft pick (or player) and taking on the contract. Maybe if Al Davis were alive.

At this point, we're probably going to stick with Wallace, and I hope Razor's work with Tannehill provides a lot of benefits we can't see yet. To me, at this point, the Dolphins' season is wrapped around the Lazor/Tannehill dynamic more than any other issue. I hope Wallace ends up being a beneficiary of that relationship as well.

I know, and so much that they must create fairy tails to feel THEY were right.

If you don't think his skillset was a fit? So be it. But those who suggest he isn't bringing that skillset to the field on Sundays? Somehow robbing us? Then you aren't watching football on Sundays.

He is who he has always been. Deal with it.

I don't disagree that he is bringing his skillset to the field. The problem is that I don't think his skillset is as valuable as he's being paid. He is not worth the money he's being paid IMO, which is robbing the team.

So why not direct your anger to Jeff Ireland or Dawn Aponte? Wallace is doing his part as far as getting open, hard to be upset with him because he isn't AJ Green.

Who said I was upset with him? I just said I think the Dolphins should trade him because he isn't worth his contract. I also criticized the team for signing him initially, and if they have the opportunity to trade him now but choose not to, that warrants criticism as well.

Even if it was just those 3, that's not enough for you? A $60m WR should never have effort come into question. That is inexcusable.

Those plays (atleast two) were inexcusable, anyone defending they weren't would be an idiot. But that doesn't mean he didn't do his job the majority of the other time.

The two I'm thinking of resulted in INTs. They were only INTs because he flat out didn't give 100%. Those are the flagrant ones. I think we can probably guarantee that there were other times where he gave less 100% on his route running that probably caused timing issues.

Maybe you're not saying Tannehill is mostly to blame, but it seems like you are. As others have said, Tannehill could stand to improve in that department, but he should be last in the list after poor play design, horrible oline, and Wallace's effort. As far as I'm concerned, the worst of those is effort because there simply is no excuse for effort problems in the NFL.

I do feel Tanny should shoulder more of the blame on the lack of connections deep. There is a percentage of blame assigned to a lot of people IMO. Wallace included, but I can dismiss seeing him beating All Pro Cbs deep with no results.

Threw him the ball deep? I mean, that's basically it.

There's a lot of concessions you have to make to get Mike Wallace to be what he was circa 2010. You're basically throwing out fundamental elements of the WCO in order to maybe make Mike Wallace worthwhile. You are ****ing up the timing, the passing concepts, and messing with your young quarterbacks development, and for what?

Running fast is not what he's paid for. Running fast and catching the football is what he's paid for. He did half his job.

This thread was started over a rumor that the Dolphins are exploring ways to get out from under his contract. Discussing his value vs. the amount of the contract is a key part of that. Wallace isn't worth the resources he costs, and if they can get out of them a year earlier than they would with cutting him it's a good thing.

He had 3 recorded drops sir.

So him not catching the balls was mostly due to the ball not being there.

Would anyone be complaining about Mike Wallace if he wasn't being paid as much as he is? Just because he is one of the top 5 paid receivers doesn't mean he is one of the top 5 receivers in the league. I really don't know how the negotiations went when he was a FA. Were the Dolphins bidding against other teams? He's overpaid, but that doesn't mean it's his fault. He's the same player he always was. Just because Miami decided to give him a ton of money doesn't mean he is going to turn into Calvin Johnson.

I blame Tanny more than Wallace for him not having more production. Of course he could have tried to break up some terrible throws, but he doesn't do that. We knew that before signing him. He ws wide open many times and Tanny just didn't get him the ball on target. Wallace had to slow down or stop completely too many times.

Yes, you can very easily complain about him just based on the merits of what he did on the field. He was thrown entirely too many passes and the return were not very good. If he didn't come with the hype and baggage he'd likely be targeted for challenges to his job.

    That was inaccurate.

    This.

And he took LESS money to goto Miami rather than Minnesota. He allows for flexibility for offenses, and a matchup nightmare for defenses.

Not many teams have a Mike Wallace type of deep threat.

And IMO we didn't go deep to him anywhere near enough. There should be at least 8-10 plays per game designed to get him deep, even more if he has the conditioning to do it. Out of those 8-10 you can get 4-5 actual deep shots, the other plays can be screens, or other passes designed to exploit coverages geared to stop him from getting deep. Instead we say 1-2 deep shots per, with Carolina being the only game all year where Wallace really looked like the player we were expecting to get.

Again it comes back to the OL. If the QB is under duress on short to intermediate stuff then no OC is going to push the envelope on deeper routes. It's not about Wallace fighting for balls or RT missing throws, it's about protecting the QB long enough for the deep shots to develop properly.

Wallace's issues were well known, what wasn't known was how bad the OL would be and how limited Sherman would be in the ways he used Wallace.

All this talk about Philbin and who does or doesn't fit his "system" but I don't see any reason to give him the benefit if the doubt on anything. Seriously, how many HC do you think would say no no no I don't want Mike Wallace, he doesn't fit my system...?

IMO a good HC can use the good players he has to maximize production. I haven't seen much if any of that from this staff. Not a single position group, outside of perhaps CB played to their potential last year. At some point you gotta stop blaming the ingredients and look at the cook.

Who knows, he adds a unique dynamic to any offense. It was reported he took "less money" who knows what that entailed. I'm sure the Florida weather played a big part in taking less.

Right now, Philbin is Tony Sparano with maybe a little less control over the locker room and without the division title.

Maybe Philbin can demand that the team get him a WR who fits his system, since he's being held back by his players. May I suggest Brandon Marshall?

The mind plays as big, if not a bigger part, in the ability to accomplish something as the physical part. A player this developed rarely changes their playing style, especially when being paid large. No matter the analogy, they knew what they had, and if they thought it was gonna change, they were stupid. It's like the saying your significant other will change once you marry. *****es please.
