I'm hoping one of those 2nd year corners can pass him on the depth chart, which is unlikely but I want us to being in some more bodies for sure.

You are assuming the cap hit will be even throughout Albert's contract. If he signs for 40 mil/ 4yrs, it could be structured so the cap hit is only about $5mil in the first year.

Carroll, 2013, 12 passes defensed, 3 ints. Passer rating of 65 into his coverage. 9th best (lowest) among corners. Comp pct of 47.8, 4th lowest among corners. We spent 4 years grooming him. The last year the light finally goes on. It would be a shame to lose him now. JMO.

And rookies in total should cost in the $6 million dollar range, or am I way off?

Yeah, if that happens then you congratulate him and wish him well but we should match or beat any reasonable offer. Not just for his on the field play, he's a born and bred Dolphin who's worked his *** off to get better, played well, played hard, played hurt, all the things you want from a draft pick. I wouldn't mind overpaying him slightly, he's earned it IMO and it would send a message to the locker room that if you do things the right way you will be rewarded.

Ah, with Davis and Taylor on the roster, not sure they'd pay NC the money he'd get elsewhere.

    Good Cb tho

As I said, they are physically and athletically comparable. That doesn't mean they are the same player or that Carroll is as good. Not sure what about that is hard to understand. The point is that Carroll had a very good season last year, has improved significantly, has no meaningful physical or athletic limitations that would necessarily prevent him from becoming a great corner and seems to have the intelligence and work ethic needed to do that. It would be a shame to lose him unless the price just gets too wacky.

Hopefully we can find a veteran corner to play opposite grimes, perhaps even resign Patterson. Regardless, time for Jamar Taylor or Will Davis to really step up for an increased role.

Id be fine with that if his average came down to about 2mil/year, but i dont see Moore going for it.

I can always count on you to bring out the stats lol. I don't know it just seems like when I watch the games I am always screaming at him.

I get that their size and measurables are similar but I think comparing the two players is irrelevant.

The games I remember doing that was like the Atlanta game when he seemed to have Julio Jones to cover most of the game. The thing is, when his coverage is so good they don't throw his way, we often don't see anything when just watching on TV.

It would be a microcosm of the Miami Dolphins franchise to let a corner get beat so bad consistently for 3 years and then make no effort to keep him when the light finally comes on...

What is irrelevant about comparing two CBs? Nobody is saying Carroll is as good but his developmental trajectory looks very good and he is physically capable of being an elite CB if he continues to develop (which is the point of comparing them physically/athletically).

Jets fans trying to figure out how he got a 3 mil contract. They would have rather have spent the extra $500k and resigned Cromartie. But not me. I like this signing. Thoughts? Why is he always hurt?

Let's hope that he doesn't have a game like he did against Cleveland when the Jets play Miami

he's really good if he's healthy..I've never seen such a frustrating injury situation, we really never knew if he would play or not, he'd come in play a bit, leave, not play the following week, then it would look good, then he would skip out, then we'd see him play in a game, not see him get injured then he'd be out the following week, we'd hear he was practicing up til Friday, then, nope, scratch at game time..

When healthy he did change the entire look of our defense.

No way is he worth that contract. I'm really relieved that we didn't sign him back for that money. You just can't rely on the guy to be healthy.

I think the frustration from us as fans is we never knew the specifics..it was definitely legs, I believe groins and hamstrings if I'm not mistaken..

I think for us it came down to comparing the risks of finnegan vrs Patterson...finnegan is a bit younger.

He's getting a little older, and most of the injuries he had were nagging (groin, hamstrings -- things that are easier to tweak as one does get older and tries to stay athletic, I have found)... but they definitely nagged. As the guys above have said, when Patterson played, he was really good and made things happen. Of course, I keep waiting for someone to report:

Dimitri Patterson pulled his flexor carpi radialis signing his contract and will be out through training camp. He hopes to be ready by opening day.
