Yo I love Ebron....but Colt Lyerla might be the best TE in this class

To me he's like a bigger Aaron Hernandez, unfortunately another similarity they share are the character concerns. But I would take a gamble on him late in the draft, especially if he goes undrafted, which I don't think he will, but I've also heard otherwise. In my opinion he could be the steal of the draft.

39 inch vert at 6-4, one of the fastest TE's coming out, hands aren't great tho, another thing is I don't know if Philbin is the right coach to get the most out of him. But I'd still roll the dice on him, his talent is simply too great. if we miss out on Ebron or Seferian-Jenkins early, Lyerla would be an excellent consolation prize in the 5th round or later.

He's the biggest off the field problem in this entire class. No way, no how!

Off-field stuff aside, I don't think Lyerla is as good a prospect as Hernandez was, though he's certainly a very good athlete. But that's beside the point, isn't it... The question to me is whether or not he'll commit himself to chasing the NFL-millions-sized carrot that's going to be dangling in front of him. Maybe that will help set him straight. Maybe Aaron being in prison will help his outlook, see some consequences, stuff like that. I don't know. I imagine it'll all come down to the interviews/talks teams have had with him and his coaches or teammates. Some bold, stable coaching staff will give him a go I think, maybe in the late 4th-5th round range. But I don't see the Dolphins touching him.

Guy is athletic in the extreme and really does move like a GOOD wide receiver. I think he's a homerun as a mid to late pick.

If you want a guy with a checkered past that will go low because of it...I trust A.C. Leonard a hell of a lot more than Coke Lyerla. I've had some reasonable assurances from people that Leonard's problems were not as terrible as some think and that he's really put it all behind him.

I'm with ya LB, if it's just based on football, there isn't a tight end in this class that I would take over Colt..just based on football he's one of my five favorite players in the draft..

Unfortunately, were not privy to his physche evals...but if I'm a GM, the talent is so good, he's worth doing one. To see if there has been some monumental revelations..

    blake annen out of cincy.
    6'4, 247, 4.42 speed, 34" vert, 25 bench reps.
this guy was the most misused player in college last year. cincy wasted all his athleticism by making him into a blocking tight end. so, what we have here is an athletic freak who is a superior run blocker as well. take him in the 5th round.

Given that Lyerla is likely going to be devalued in the draft because of his problems, the positive is that he wouldn't be making $millions - not for at least 4 years+. I'd take him in the 3-4 round range which is where he may go - or he may wind up in the 5th or 6th just b/c NFL teams may be getting scared of troubled players given the Hernandez situation.

Why would anyone consider it after what we just went through with Cogs and this guy is worse. If you think Bullygate was a bad scandal for us, imagine what the press would do if we went through our own AHern......

For some reason I'm a little hung up on size this year, thus would love Evans at receiver or Niklas. At the same time love Cooks.

Lyerla is likely going in the 4th or 5th round & is the better of the two, take Zach Martin @19.
also think this running back conversation could be better resolved with a genuine FB in the stable, have two real bangers to be had in the later rounds.
who has never tried cocaine? must we start again this pretentious bull****. crack is addictive, cocaine is not... many people experiment with the drug, then go their merry way.

I kind of find it interesting that Tyrann Mathieu (although his drug use was less intense) did this whole public apology tour last year. He went and did a 1 on 1 with Deion Sanders, was on one of those pre-draft workout shows with Mariucci, etc etc. It earned him some pretty positive public sentiment, I think he was covered pretty positively leading up to the draft and in his rookie year.

Meanwhile, I haven't heard **** from Lyerla. Maybe he doesn't think he needs to fix his image in the public eye or thinks it can't be fixed. I do really think it would help if he had gotten on the same PR stint that Mathieu had. Maybe he just needs a better agent or just isn't bright enough to take the advice.

Lyerla has been contrite from what I've seen. But he's just not been as active. In fairness, there hasn't been as much interest in him.

Cocaine scares the hell out of front offices, pot, meh..plus there was just something about Matthieu that was evident that he is a great teammate.

Colt is a blue chip talent in this draft, I see your point and wish his contriteness came with a pr campaign that showed it publicly.

The league tests and suspends players for that now. That's the problem. Not too mention, if he does get busted, imagine the **** storm the media would give us after last year. I predict no less than three different media people question the intelligence of bringing a known coke head to South Beach.

I've been talking about him for a long time, I've stated that from a football skillset and what we need, he's a top 15 pick, one of my favorite players in the draft, and an absolute beast on the field..beast..he'd be my #1 target if he wasn't a coke head..that being said, I would do heavy research on the player to see if there's a chance he may if gotten help, or if his circumstances dictated his actions..

I did a lot of study off the field on the badger to come to some conclusions that he was worth the risk, haven't done that on Colt..but if we could just take a chance on him late and hope we have the leadership I would be down, I'm pretty sure some teams with great leadership structure will roll the dice, patriots, colts, steelers..
