once again limbo, I have higher expectations..I'm not as convicted about my evaluation as I would like but I just think the overall skillset will give us a consistency we haven't had in a while at the position..

your right, relative to what he's shown in the pros, it hasn't shown first round game, I liked the player coming out so maybe I'm hanging on to that. with a dose of wishful thinking that variables and the process of adapting to this level was the cause for the average production..like I said earlier, my conviction is not as strong as I would like because I think his lack of speed is the is sure for. The lack of big plays..but overall consistency is attractive to me at this point unless we have a chance at Hyde or Mason..

Why, so they can bury him on the depth chart?

Drafting another RB would be a mistake IMO. We have 4 guys already, adding another isn't really going to change the overall talent/depth level.

Bury who? Ideally a rookie steps up and splits carries with Moreno, who is primarily used on passing downs. Miller/Thomas/Gillisee fight it out for the other spot.

And adding a rookie RB absolutely should improve the overall talent. Right now there isn't anyone on the roster that is very impressive as a runner.

We do have 4 guys, but we have one who is a proven NFL back and he isn't even that great.

Chip Kelly's staff last year was 4th in rushing attempts, when Lazor was on joe Gibbs staff they were always run heavy, it would be interesting to know their balance when he was head coach at Virginia..

All due respect, I disagree. I see it as an open competition, with the better back winning the job in training camp/preseason. And, I'm putting my money on Moreno.

I agree..won't hurt Miller to watch the pro, to develop an intensity, to learn the nuances..

I will say this about miller, if we can master that zone stretch play in this zone scheme, miller will eat that up with his skillset, dude was gettin to the corner with zero seal on that edge last year.

Well we threw it 65% of the time last year, pretty much every down is a passing down. I agree we don't have any great runners but whoever the backs are, in this offense they will be running routes and pass blocking more often than they're receiving handoffs.

Second, beefing up the OL, adding a TE who can block and a serviceable FB are easier routes to improving the run game IMO. RG, RT and FB are empty, Sims seems to be a few years away from being a reliable inline blocker. I'd prefer filling those spots before rolling the dice on a RB.

I think there are a few worth rolling the dice of in the 2nd - 4th round.

Say we take one in the 3rd, do you cut one of the current guys? It's gonna be hard to give 5 backs a fair shake, reps wise.

If a runningback is drafted, I think Thomas is going to be cut due to Moreno.

    Miller can be upgraded.

Why should the team be opposed to cutting two of Thomas, Miller, and Gillisee? The position is so fungible that you shouldn't have to spend multiple seasons giving guys a shot.

I could see Thomas getting cut for salary reasons but I don't see the rationale for parting ways with Miller or Gilly.

I'd dunno, I'd like to see our backs operate behind a more capable OL before I agree on sheeitcanning them.

And they guys in the draft are? Most of them would ride the pine for pass pro issues alone.

I have seen enough to think they can be upgraded by a 2nd - 4th round pick.

Especially for a runningback that can break tackles

There very likely is something that will be drafted in the mid-to-late rounds that will end up being a good NFL runner. Its the nature of the position, especially with zone-running teams.

Maybe you're right, I still wouldn't touch one until the OL was fixed. A TE who can set the edge, a FB who can punish LBs.

I don't want to reach for an OL if there is a RB that is much better at his position.

I highly doubt they are going to get a FB

If you look around the league, very rarely do mid-late round backs ever become big producers.

This would be a good draft to get a lead blocking FB.

I get what you're saying, but we have next to nothing at RT/RG/FB right now. Pretty much any decent player would come in and contribute right away.

A traditional TE would allow Clay to move back to H-Back where he belongs.

I know those aren't sexy options, but I heard the same thing last year when I wanted two OL in the first round and people were all over Austin, Eifert, etc.

That's good to hear. I've got a new addition to the family and less time than usual so my draft research for this year amounts to a few hours on youtube :pity:.

I told you that last week. He said FB is #11 of importance on offense. Besides, I think he likes his TEs to be FBs as well.

Would Sherm have known what to do with them? Or would be talking about how they under achieved and might be traded, like we are w Jordan and Wallace.

Philbin once said he'd be just fine with Sherman calling a pass on just about every down. I don't see how he's going to mesh with Lazor.

You may be correct but even jokes have some semblance of truth. The pairing of Lazor with Philbin could be be a strength that provides balance.
