Everyone that played for the team last year gets one, so of course Bogaerts would get one considering he played in every WS game.
I paid a lot of money for Braun this year in fantasy and he's ****ing me. His thumb situation is not looking good.
I thought Tanaka looked like Dice-K for the first 2 innings, nibbling at the corners with off speed stuff not challenging any hitters inside but settled down nicely after that. Wonder how bad the hammy injury is going to be for Teixeira.
I really don't care, that guy is the softest ***** in baseball. **** him. He was going to bat sub-200 anyway. Rather roll with Solarte at 3rd and Johnson at 1st anyway. Anna can fill in at 2/SS until Ryan gets back, then in June go get Drew for cheap money for the stretch run.
Right I agree, thing that impressed me though was he got tougher on them 2nd and 3rd time through the order which is mighty impressive. The word is he wasn't "on" either which is scary. Betances had major control problems though, he was clearly overthrowing.... Ichiro is is going to be the batting champion this year hahahahahah
Pineda was NAILS today. avg fastball 94.4, hit 96 once - He needs a little better control, but ill chalk that up to nervousness from his first start. He deserved better today.
Kind of worried about Buchholz a little bit. The guy had nothing last night. I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up with some kind of surgery on his arm this year.
I think from what I remember he pitched fine during the spring. His velocity was around 91-92 which is what it was last night, he just didn't hit any of his spots and none of his pitches were working for him. Basically it was like batting practice. Also Middlebrooks is getting an MRI on his calf, if he has to go on the DL I wonder if the Sox will call up Cecchini this soon in the year.
Rays signed Yunel Escobar to a possible 3 year extension. $5 million next year. $8 million in 2016. $7 million option in 2017 with a $1 million buy out. Rays really showing their trying to keep their guys. 2016 is a little much. Hes got an amazing glove. And we have Lee waiting in the minors, who IMO will be ready next year. I could see Lee starting at 2B next year.
I am taking the "Finkle CC first game of ST approach" hahahah. Seriously I wouldnt panic yet, it was 42 that night...... Raise your hand of you bet UCONN going to the Finals AND the Sox getting swept by the Brewers for their home opening series....
Reason for panic because he's always been injury prone in his career and after a winter of rest it appears at least for one game he isn't healthy again. Frustrating weekend where the Sox could have won all 3 games. The starters minus Buchholz looked good. However there are some nagging small injuries that are hurting the team right now, they need to get healthy. Middlebrooks was put on the DL and Holt was promoted so 3B will be a blackhole for the time being.
Sox just signed INF Ryan Roberts, former D-Back and Ray. He's nothing special but probably an upgrade playing everyday over Holt and Herrera. There are reports that it is a major league deal and if so the Middlebrooks MRI must not have looked good. Hopefully Cecchini plays well enough in Triple A (he's off to a great start but the Sox want him to play better D at 3B) and gets called up sooner than later.
He does hit lefties decently. Last 3 years .264/.337/.439. You have to think he'll be part of a platoon. One of the biggest question marks on this team was what would happen if Middlebrooks either underperforms or gets hurt. Sox had Cecchini as a potential replacement but probably didn't figure he'd be ready until Juneish.
But he was what 1-2MPH off his normal velo?? I mean it was cold the other night, it is hard to get loose in that especially when you spent the previous month in the sunshine.... With Buch however you will know quickly if he is hurt or not....
Not just the velocity but no movement on his offspeed stuff. If this was Lackey or Lester or even Peavy I wouldn't put much thought into it and just chalk it up to a bad start but with Buchholz it should be at least a little concern.
Not so much statistically. He was a great effort and high energy guy. It was just nice to be able to plug a guy like that in every once in a while and get a spark.
Ellsbury is ripping **** up, although he got thrown out today.....it is nice to have a good hitter on the team finally.... Somebody said he got thrown out all of 4 times last year total, so that means he only has 3 more to go to reach his yearly allotment... Robertson going to the DL with a groin injury.....dahhhhhhh....can Mo come back?
Sox and Yankee players are dropping like flies. Joe Maddon's voodoo dolls seem to be working thus far.
Nunez traded to Minny for a lefty AA pitcher Miguel sulbaran. Dodger prospect traded to Minny last year.
And now the Rays' Moore leaves a game with an injury. The AL East will be decided by the franchise's Double A teams at this rate.
Good article recap on an Alex Speier podcast with Keith Law about the AL East minor league systems: http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/bo...ficant-advantage-in-the-american-league-east/
Elbow issues. Not good. Moore said it only bothered him when he threw his change up though. Don't know what that means, and if it may be a little bit of good news or not... His arm action should be the same on his fastball and change up anyways. Not sure why it would only hurt during one of those pitches.
Didn't Strasburg blow out his elbow throwing a change up? It could be the way he grips the ball on the change up that could have led to elbow soreness. One of the reasons why pitchers apparently don't throw splitters much anymore is because of the extra stress it puts on the elbow when throwing it, whether it's true or not.
I said it before and I will say it again but there's no excuse for a team like the Yankees not to have an actual back up 1B, especially with Teixeira's wrist concerns heading into the season. Having Cervelli play there is just, I don't even know what to say about it. Hell why am I complaining. I hope Cervelli plays the rest of the year there.
Yea but a change is a soft grip. I would think the splitter would hurt the elbow from the arm action. But I'm not going to pretend to know everything about pitching and injuries.
I don't get why they don't just get Kotchmen..... I dont know maybe they trying to showcase Cervelli as being able to play other positions....
Yeah same here, I don't know much about pitching either but I don't think the splitter has a different arm action than a fastball/change up, the point of the splitter is to make it appear to look like a fastball but to have the bottom drop off. It's not like the pitcher is flipping his wrist like he would for a curveball, slider or screwball.
Even if Cervelli can play an average or better defensive 1B his bat won't be enough to keep him there like it does at the catching position.
