What a great show. Last season I think it took until the 4th episode before things got rolling. They are feet 1st this season.

Whew. I would never expect the guy from Willow to be 1/10th as good as Peter.

There's plenty of content to go through, they don't have much of a choice but to hit the ground running.

They seem to have a good plan for dividing the remaining two books up into three seasons since they've been renewed for two more. After that, they'll need new source material to work with...

It sounds more like justification to me.

Most of the people who illegally download shows aren't going to pay for the product later down the road. They don't value it enough.

It depends I think. When I was marathoning over the last few weeks to get ready for this season, I owned season 1 on dvd but not the other two. I attempted to downloaded the other two seasons just so I could get caught up (as spending almost $160 on both seasons on blu ray was hard to swallow then), but I still have every intention to own the series collections. That being said I just ended up subscribing to HBO because it was to difficult to find working torrents.

I think if HBO offered the purchase of HBO GO separately to everyone that would solve the biggest majority of pirating. I think people are willing to pay to watch the series just not what it cost to get the packages with HBO.

A la carte purchasing is the exact pricing model the TV companies are trying to avoid.

I agree that most who illegally download won't buy the boxsets, I shouldn't have said "many" really, as wasn't meaning a high proportion of them. However, they won't buy the show whatever way it's on offer, whether that's via HBO or boxset, so the makers aren't losing money when it was never going to be given to them anyway. Some of the downloaders will buy the boxset though, and whether that offsets the lost subscriptions that some may have bought if they didn't download is up for debate, but probably not quantifiable. It's the every download is a lost subscription argument that networks use that I find disingenuous.

Also, I saw an article last year (sorry, can't find it at the moment) where the makers admitted that they were actually thankful to illegal downloads for spreading the word and making the show the success it is. They then said that HBO might not be too happy with their reply to that question!

I admit I do download the show, so yes, I may be trying to justify myself. However, I have the top TV package with my cable subscriber, but they don't carry the channel that shows GoT over here - the satellite company that have the rights make sure that you need a subscription with them to watch it. Unfortunately satellite dishes are not allowed on the old building that I live in. So the only way, outside of waiting a year for the boxset to come out, I have to watch it is to illegally download.

Oh, it's not a matter of faith. And no, being able to watch Joffrey die at the expense of Tyrion going down for it is not a fair trade.

That midget doesn't die for this, does he? Tell me now so I can just stop watching altogether.

I believe Tommen Baratheon, the younger brother of Joffrey. He is next in line and not just a coincidence that he was at the wedding.

I bet the Tyrell's are ****ting themselves over this. No succession line at all now, unless Joffrey got his crossbow in her before he died and she's pregnant... Margaery is still hawt though. (so easily distracted I am)

It's remarkable the amount of sadism that one can gloss over when you read 1000 pages. When it is distilled to a TV show, it makes it seem like this all the books are about

Tommen, Joffrey's younger brother who's had barely more air time than Rickon Stark, becomes king. Cersei keeps ruling as Queen Regent.

There's now a power struggle between Queen Regent Cersei and Queen Margarey. Five kings, two queens.

I don't agree. Of the 1000 pages that weren't sadism in the books, most of them were description of scenery.

the only person who loses from Joffrey's death is Cersei because she was the only person that cared for him. Everyone else wins because the psycho child king is out of the picture and there is another "Baratheon" that can keep the status quo intact

Kind of a weird episode. Didn't hate it by any means, some good **** went down. Arya and the Hound are still boss. Tywin, Oberyn, and Tyrion were all tight. Podrick is a true bro. I loved when Tommen said "Wisdom" we see Tywin react like, "Oh thank god, the kid isn't an idiot!" The Wall stuff is getting interesting... Wish we got more than just a taste of the wildling fight. Dany being a bad b****, going all valyrian. She is the Queen of the white knights, that's for sure. Oh, and Littlefinger confirming his involvement and continuing to be the proverbial monkey wrench. But... I had three issues with this episode.

    - New Daario is absolute trash. No charm, no charisma, no danger... I don't mind recasting if it has to be done and works. But New Daario is a totally different character... It's like HBO did a focus group and old Daario got ripped to shreds so they made him a pet rock, as inoffensive as possible. They're going to need to recast him... again. This new guy can't hang. He's too soft. Soft looking and soft spoken. The former could be tolerated if the latter wasn't so against what we already know the character to be. By far the worst casting this show has seen. Seriously, **** him...

    - Am I the only one who wants to change the channel when Sam and Gilly (individually and/or together) are on screen? Total waste of screen time.

    - Feminists are in an uproar over the Jaime "rape" scene. Was that rape? She seemed to be kind of into it at times, despite her protesting... A very weird scene. I'm not really sure what they were trying to accomplish. If it's to turn Jaime "bad" again, that makes no sense... and if it was suppose to be Ceresi trying to deny her true feelings, despite wanting Jaime (she seemed to still be interested when she *****ed out Brienne), than the scene was poorly executed.

That makes it sound like a WWE storyline or something LOL... Jaime and Cersei on any given day aren't even sure what's going to happen with their relationship. I don't know the point of the scene either. If it was to illustrate anybody's conflict of feelings it was probably Jaime's.

Sort of a meh episode, mainly because nearly all of it is invented.

I really hate what they're doing to the Thenns. They aren't supposed to be cannibals. This also ruins a storyline later on, though I'm guessing they aren't going to pursue that now.

Not sure why this last episode provoked this reaction but here it is: I think they have too may story lines going on at once. A truly shocking revelation I know. But it's as if every episode now becomes snippets of about a dozen or so plot lines. The show is a large city, the story lines are Starbucks.

I didn't know the Thenns weren't meant to be cannibals going by the book, but I quite like that they are. It adds a sense of menace/horror to them, especially in the scene with them raiding the village.

I reckon the show is going to depart from the book storyline more as it goes on, as I've also seen a report today about George RR Martin saying the Cersei/Jaime scene wasn't as he wrote it. I also don't get the feminist anger towards that scene, yes, rape is horrible, but there's been a lot of horrendous things done and shown in the story, so to pick out that as something that shouldn't have been depicted is pretty ridiculous. I bet the feminists angry about that scene didn't complain as much about the Theon/Reek scenes last season.
