That's a tall order, but I really hope so. The 90s cartoon was my favorite show growing up, so I've been dying for a great X-men movie.

I watched Prometheus for the second time. I think it is a fantastic movie with a very interesting premise. I also love the tie in to the Alien films. The blu-ray looks absolutely stunning.

Great idea, great cinematography, but absolutely awful writing for a lot of it.

Could of been sooooo much better.

Captain America... Winter Soldier. Definitely an improvement over the original yawner.

Action was very well choreographed. Enjoyed the fight scenes. The camera work was a bit too zoomed in and fleeting though. Scarlett Johansson is just pure sex. She was very good as usual. Chris Evans really owns this role and was fun to watch. The elevator fight scene was great. The story a bit too familiar and overdone already. Get some Brit writers involved in these Comic movies already...

Redford as Alexander Pierce was a casting mistake and his character too obvious. You knew instantly how it would play out. Would have been better without a star in the role. Garry Shandling as Senator Stern sucked... that whole scene blowed and was just overly stupid.

Apart from some overly drawn out dramatic scenes with Redford and SamL Jackson, and the goofy Nazi-Hydra connection (once again), it was very good. Oddly, it made me think of "Soldier" with Kurt Russell from the 90s for some reason... genetically bred/enhanced solder against a more modern version perhaps... at least in it while the 2 top dogs had history, they weren't besties to the end... lol...

All in all, it was the most compelling and well done comic movie I have seen in a long time. Looking forward to watching it again.

    Europa Report: 8/10

Part documentary, part blair witch project w/out the shaky cam.

A group of astronauts travel to Jupiter's moon, Europa, for the purpose of testing the ice and water. Perhaps answering the question "are we alone in the universe." The suspense in this movie is terrific. It can be every bit as gripping as "Gravity" without the stupidity and terrible characters/actors (Sandra Bullock). Definitely worth a watch.

    Drug War: 8.5/10

Chinese film by (apparently) famous chinese director Johnnie To. Very good film, not nearly as action oriented as I was lead to believe. But the story and main characters are very strong. A little cat and mouse play by the good guy and bad guys. Both of whom are very good, especially the chief police officer, who's the head of Narco. Some very interesting role playing for him. He gives the best performance. The main antagonist is interesting too. Not a cookie cutter "badass" type that you might expect.

  21. Just saw transcendence.

Still aint made up my mind how much I liked it. There was a lot to absorb. Its based on a very powerful concept but the story itself was kind of trite. It could of been much more than it was. I give the plkot a 10 the acting a 7-8 and the directing a 4-5.

Holy cow, I never put two and two together.

    IASIP, The Wire, SoA represented.

That said, I found any scene not involving monsters and robots unmoving and terribly written/acted. Couldn't have cared less about the characters TBH.

Skipped right to the cgi fights, which were awesome.

ON THE JOB - A filipino movie about assassins and the cops trying to hunt them down. One of the best I've seen of this type. Not because of special effects or crazy killing scenarios but because of the realism of it all. Its dirty, Its gritty, mistakes are made. Really good watch. First movie from the Phillipines Ive ever seen

    Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Really enjoyed it, one of my favourite Marvel movies.

    Nitpicks:
    Not enough winter soldier.
Shaky cam in the fight scenes was annoying.
Not really the fault of the movie itself, but I feel like it's a bit misrepresented in press, reviews etc. I'd read that it had a darker tone than other marvel movies and played out like a conspiracy thriller. My viewing of it was quite different.

Agreed on the shaky cam during fight scenes.

Can we form a movement that demands directors that shaky cam during car chases and fight scenes to not heighten the suspense but kill it? Who is with me?!?!?!?

I am 100% on board. It takes me right out the film whenever I see it.

There's legitimate times to use it, but not just for arbitrary fight scenes.

The first time I remember seeing it badly affect a movie was Bourne Supremacy, so I'm blaming Paul Greengrass

Agreed. It was especially bad, because the BEST thing about the first Bourne was the inventive fight scenes. Bourne's fighting style was loads of fun to watch and they were smart enough to let you see it.

Greengrass can eat a bag of ***** for ruining everything.

I think if you view it as a political thriller it wasn't much of either political or thriller. I think it was just an excellent comic book movie.

    I concur on "dark".

I saw this as pretty much the same type of film as most of the other Marvel movies. Which basically boils down to:

    1. Bad guys threaten country / world / universe
    2. Good guys respond by
    a. Dispensing motivational speeches / wisdom
    and/or
    b. Punching things in the face until the problem is resolved.

Sure there are some tonal differences between each of them, but when I go in to see one of these movies, that's basically what I'm expecting. If I get a well executed version of that (like in this case, IMO) I'll walk out happy and probably buy the DVD 6 months later.

I guess my original point was that there was a lot of talk in the run up the release (e.g. Kevin Feige describing it as a "political thriller") that ultimately I don't think was fulfilled. Didn't hamper my enjoyment at all though.
