Who's the best TRUE right tackle in this draft?

I'm kinda tired of the dolphins drafting a LT and switching them to RT or vice versa. I'd like to see them draft someone who excelled at playing right tackle and have them play I don't know, maybe RIGHT TACKLE

With that said, I heard Moses played better at left than he did at right. Zack Martin also played more left tackle than right (that I'm aware of)

Who's the best right tackle? Would you rather draft them in latter rounds or go with Martin or Moses and plug em at RT?

I would much rather go with Martin (at 19) or Moses (in a trade down) than rely on a player taken later on. We need to be able to take a guy and immediately plug him in as a reliable starter from day one. I'm extremely risk averse when it comes to this. Tannehill and the running game will get crushed again if the team doesn't bring in a dependable starter.

Hey I am new to the form but I couldn't agree more with the original poster. As they say those who do not remember that past are bound to repeat it. What happened last year? we took some luxury flashy picks aka dion jordan and we rolled the dice on our offense oline not remembering that the games are often won in the trenches. After all what happened last year? Our "franchise" qb got beaten up all year risking having a david carr situation for our team. Our young running back core also struggles because we couldn't block for them which again destroys their confidence. Then as for our big wide receiver free agent Mike Wallace he struggles to get the timing right with Tannehill because he didnt have time in the pocket to let the play develop and be comfortable enough to delivery the ball on the spot. So like you said if we can get a right tackle like martin to plug in and be decent then that will improve our offense on so many levels from pass protection, running game and allowing mike wallace to have enough time to use his amazing speed to score for us. We then can grab a linebacker and another guard in rounds 2,3 or 4 depending on the value of the players for our picks. Also of course a good offense that can score and stay on the field gives our defense the ability to play with a lead and pin their years back to rush the passer with wake, veron and dion jordan and allow our cbs to play aggressive and really snowball the game in our favor so with a good o line i think our team will be able to compete with anyone in the playoffs. Thank you for taking the time to read and i look forward to future fun discussions on our thoughts.

Jawuan James I think is the general highest rated right tackle in the draft.

I don't think there is inherently any reason to avoid switching the side of an offensive linemen, so long as you do your due diligence. I don't think you assume a guy can do it(like the Dolphins coaching staff and front office did with John Jerry). I'm not entirely certain what is allowed when, but I imagine you could at very least put a player through right-side drills if you have a private workout.

If you want to avoid switching a left tackle wait and draft Ja'Wuan James from Tennessee in the second round. Very good body and a full camp would make him an immediate starter.

    Welcome dude..

As much as I'm tempted to go receiver with a top 20 pick, I think we must oblige to your username.

Ja'Wuan James had 49 starts at Tennessee, all at RT. Don't think anyone else in this draft has that many starts at RT. He was 3rd among OTs at the combine in the Vertical and 3 cone, behind only Lewan and Matthews. Both are among the most predictive of success for OTs when it comes to combine workout numbers. If you include the guards, then Joel Bitonio would be ahead of him too on the VJ, and Bitonio and some dude named Conor Boffeli of Iowa would be quicker too on the 3 cone.

Don't forget that Jake Matthews was a right tackle until this year. He's the best right tackle in the draft and also (not so coincidentally) the best tackle period.

If Matthews falls to 8, I could still see a trade up with the Vikings. If he is not there, I see us trying to trade down and picking up an extra second or third and taking James. I really would like to take Shazier at 19, but I don't see how we can take the risk of not getting a starting RT in this draft.

While I'm ok with tackle a with our first round pick, if the players are gone that I deem worthy of our slot, than a trade down is why I'm ok with it.

Even though I already knew this, I looked at past mock drafts and you know what I realized? They literally mean NOTHING. Almost all of them are wrong, and like last year, by a lot.

But I keep going back everyday to check more mock drafts -.-

I could see them going with a position other than Tackle with the 19th pick if the top 4 are gone, but we really need to make it a priority with the 2nd round pick. I really hope we take another offensive lineman in later rounds also. The Dolphins can no longer take the offensive line for granted and think they can just plug anybody in and hope they will work. The system may not be perfect but you still have to give some credence to the grades given to players when trying to decide who is a safe pick.

I was in this same boat up until just recently. We NEED to shore up the RT position, all of our success will depend on it. Like I mentioned in my last post, I could see Jake Matthews there at 8 and we trade up to get him. Based on our needs as a team and what he brings to the table, he might have even been the top pick if we were hypothetically at #1 in the draft. If he goes earlier than that, I don't think we have a chance to get him. At that point we should trade back a few spots, take James (the 2nd best RT) and try to get Niklas and Trai Turner and shore up the line that way.

The only other option is probably take a playmaker at 19 (WR or Shazier are my picks) and then trade our 2nd and a package of picks to get back up to make sure we get the starting RT in the late first.

I don't think you trade up in the first round to pick up a right tackle unless you think you can slide him over to LT in a few years. That would mean the front office views Albert as a stop gap and I don't see that. I like the idea of taking a playmaker at 19 and then moving up into the late first and early second to take a tackle.

If this would play out that wonderfully, I'd be all on board.

I don't like the idea of moving up to 8...it wouldn't be the worst thing, I'd just not love it. I do agree we need someone in the first 2 rounds that can play RT though haha.

    Huh?

He was 5th among tackles in the 3 cone drill (behind Bitonio, Lewan, Mathews, and Wesley Johnson)
He was also 5th among tackles in the vert (behind Patchan, Bitonio, Lewan, and Mathews). He was also tied with Wesley Johnson, Charles Leno Jr, Brandon Thomas here.

Those numbers hardly point towards his success..

EDIT: Just realized this was from like a week ago lol. I've been google searching all the times James' name came up on trephins lol.

Johnson is a center and Bitonio is listed as a guard now. With both out, he moves to third.

To be fair I just noted he was the highest rated "true" right tackle- I didn't really know they'd pick him. The only reason I wasn't really surprised with the pick was Club Level posters. I believe it might have been ckparrothead mentioning James as an option at #19?
