per Andrew Abramson via Team Source http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...phins-lb-koa-misi-doesnt-want-to-move-inside/ edit: sorry, just saw this is talked about in the draft strategy thread already
That's a bit of an interesting twist. It'd be a lot for him to learn but he's been playing a lot of linebacker backed off the line last year, too. On the positive side, this hopefully means they won't just shuffle the same linebackers around.
Don't believe the report. He has a chance to stay on the field for three downs if he can make the transition..I wanna see if he can do it.. However, the pursuit of d'qwell Jackson tells me that me that there isn't a lot of conviction. Have we even had confirmation from Coyle or Philbin that this was his reality?
No confirmation but Barry Jackson reported it a long time before Andrew Abramson did. So it's not like Abramson was the first we'd heard of this.
maybe coyle would confirm if asked, but i bet philbin would never let that info out, i also believe that report is bull****, misi is a tough SOB, i doubt he would duck from this challenge
A lot to learn is an understatement. He'd have to learn a new position for the what, third or 4th time? Plus he has to learn the defensive line calls to make necessary adjustments, the other LB spots, QB the D, and take over for Ellerbe as the "leader", even though he's clearly more of the quiet type. On top of that he's a liability in nickel situations so we'd still need a guy like Ellerbe to do his job on 3rd downs/obvious pass situations. And to top it off these changes still leave Dion Jordan riding the pine. In short it's a horrible idea. Way to go local media, nice job proposing stupidity and then shooting it down. I hope they feel all sorts of smart.
I still think he's best suited for where he was last year and the year before, Philip Wheeler be damned. Draft a MLB like Preston Brown and let those two duke it out for SAM. That is, if they're not drafting Shazier to play Will or Mike (if they drafted him to play Will, then I'd be okay with leaving Ellerbe alone).
false report according to Adam Beasley Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley 14 min Koa Misi did not refuse a position change to middle linebacker, as was reported elsewhere, a Dolphins source said emphatically Friday.
It didn't seem like he played much OLB last year either. For as much as he's being paid, he's somewhat of a disappointment IMO.
Dennis Hickey was asked this in his Pre-Draft Presser today. His answer, paraphrasing, was essentially, "The offseason is a good time to experiment with things like that." FWIW, I wouldn't put much stock into Misi actually moving there, at least until we see what happens in the Draft.
sounds like another player trying to weasel out their responsibility? this whole roster needs to be completely rebuilt.
Misi is the most overrated player on defense. So he sets the edge well...but I'm sure there's plenty of LBs who can do that for cheaper. Misi simply doesn't make plays. He isn't that good against the run and can't cover TE's. Misi us decent but IMO he's very replaceable.
It really is a shame that the Dolphins HAVE to spend their first round draft pick to upgrade the offensive line. Because I feel that the LB's, including Misi, are probably just as bad an overall unit as the offensive line at this time. In fact if the offensive line was not in such a mess at this time. I would have no problem with Hickey drafting two or three LB's in this coming draft. Why Misi was signed to another contract is beyond me? He is average at best and Ireland did everything he could to weaken the LB corp last year by cutting Dansby and Burnett, and instead going with Ellebe and Wheeler. Right now I don't see a single LB on the Dolphins who could start for any of the better teams in the NFL.
I would go as far as to say Misi is the most underutilized player on the team next to Jordan. I am not gung ho about him playing ILB. He has better talents in other places. I need to see Coyle become better at utilizing the talents of his defense.
