We would probably get more production from a physical receiver or TE than a RT. I think a good blocking seam busting TE would serve the offense best. Our slot receivers have tended to be possession receivers that aren't going to make big plays. The same thing with Hartline and his patented sideline pattern, they’re not going to get us the 24 + points we need a game. We need the big physical skill players that can wear out D's. Moreno and Clay are a good start, and Wallace serves his purpose, but I'd like to see another regular contributor.

There is some value, even if Dez doesn't see it. I expect Trai Turner will be a 2nd rounder by draft day, and getting him to play RG would be sweet. Watch him against Arkansas and Texas A&M last year. This is a guard as good as any in the draft. Joel Bitonio or Ja'Wuan James in the 1st to play RT, and Trai Turner to play RG in the 2nd. Then take Cornelius Lucas late to groom as the eventual replacement for Albert. Watch Lucas a pass blocker. He swallows up pass rushers like giant sink hole. He doesn't do much more than try to get in the way as a run blocker, but the way he can pass block, I'd be willing to give up something in his run blocking.

From what I recall, it's usually just the top tier and borderline top tier linemen who get pushed up. Many thought Menelik Watson, Terron Armstead, and Larry Warford would need to be taken in the 1st, 1st, and 2nd rounds respectively in order to get them, but none got pushed up as Watson went 42nd, Armstead 75th, and Warford 65th. Even in a weak 2012 tackle class that saw just 2 first rounders, Cordy Glenn and Jonathan Martin went 41st and 42nd when most thought they'd get pushed up into the first round with so few tackles ahead of them.

This year we've got 5 tackles likely going in the first round to help satiate the needy teams, with 4 of those going before we pick, meaning- that's 4 tackle needy teams drafting before us in the second round who likely won't be taking JaWuan James.... and possibly 5 teams if Kouandjio goes ahead of James in round two. Therefore in the very least, James should be available for a short trade up. With Watson, Glenn, and Martin being drafted 41st to 42nd as either left tackles or future left tackles which carries more value than right tackle, I could see the right tackle James making it to 50.

i found this stunning piece on latimes.com.....a mock draft from reporters..

thank you omar for becoming the laughing stock of all local media beat writers, i mean we knew this already before, your knack for eyeing talent like "i see no holes in legedu naanee's game" was apparent before, but this really is a disaster, tannehills 5 year option is in 2016 anyways..if you read this and i know you apparently will since this is the place were you get your info..... ...Y O U S U C K

Great stuff, DJ. I cannot disagree with Mayock's take. But, would not really want Kouandijo at 19. If we were to trade out of the spot and go to 26, say, which at this point is very uncertain, of course, then I'd consider him. Unless a strong defender drops to 19 - also unlikely - I think we're in a bit of "no man's land" at that pick right now. I just hope we don't go QB which is an "outside the box" possibility. I am not so convinced about the QBs in this draft in round 1 anyway. And, we'd have two QBs who then would need an OL to block for them.

Great post. I could not agree more. Probably too reasonable. But it will be fun to watch how the draft unfolds!

Not to defend Omar too much, but no one here would consider Bortles, Manzeil or Bridgewater if they dropped to us?

It won't matter how good our OL is if Tanny doesn't learn to step up in the pocket. Even a few more roll outs would be nice. He stood there like a statue more times than I can remember. Quite a few of those sacks would not have happened if he simply stepped forward or got the hell out of there.

We need more elite playmakers with our early picks. Build the OL with mid to later picks.

    An Elite LG?

    Yes, I would do it.

The League has changed from a "Draft a Franchise Left Tackle" one to "You need mobility on the offense line!" one.

If LT were in the league today, he would be lining up over both the R and L Tackle, Reggie White would be lining up over either G, and Dwight Stephenson or Larry Little would be picking off CB's on sweeps, not Lb's

OmarK has slipped from laughing stock into possible mental illness.

Ah the heady days when he'd say "Read Take Your Eyes Off the Ball" ie watch line play, to this

There is no $14.6-million fifth-year option on RT17 in 2015. He is under contract for a total of just over 2 mil.

This Line would make me (and Tanny) very happy. Best scenario: We draft a TE at 19 (in a surprising way Ebron would still be there) or a LB (C.J. Mosley) an get Ja'Wuan James in the second (trade up if needed).

Is that accurate? Seems like a 5th year option on a #8 pick would be a little more dear than 2 million.

2013 salary: $480,000 base + $485,841 bonus if he is on the roster the 6th day of training camp
2014 salary: $570,000 base + $971,682 bonus if he is on the roster the 6th day of training camp

Omar is right on this one (assuming he meant 2016 and not 2015), if I understood this correctly. It would be the average of the top ten highest prior year salaries for QB's... a hefty salary.

It is not an option from what I read. It is the 4th year of a 4 year contract. Now, there may be a 5th year option for 2016, but Omar did not say that.
