Been awhile since I started a thread (hurr hurr "that's a good thing" hurr hurr) What is everyone's plan for draft weekend?! Its a big stretch of days for big fans like us...Thursday we are going to "Steamers" bar and grill here in Charlotte, it is a Dolphins bar during football season. Great drink specials, good food, darts, pool etc. My dad, brothers, wife, kids are all going around 6:30....get some pitchers, play some pool etc. Over the weekend, I'll veg out, get some buffalo chicken dip, wings, beers and watch some new blood join our team, look at college highlight videos, read scouting reports etc after selected. What are your plans?
Drink to excess. Cuss at the wife, kick the dog, smack the boy. You know, basically just dealing with my frustrations over whatever the Dolphins decide to do. Because, they never, ever, ever do what I want them to.
Two of my boys have baseball games on Thursday so I will be checking my phone for updates, depending on timeframe I may hit my local to watch the last part of the draft. Friday I coach Athletics so we are having a shortened practice so I can watch it at home as my wife is having a sample party (she reps a food company) so I will be eating well and having a few beers. Saturday, it will be on but nothing planned around it. I am old now, can't be hitting a bar night after night any more
My son's HS graduation services are Friday night at 6:30. Still pissed the fkn draft in is May... Thursday, however, I told the wife I'd be "working late" and getting dinner with some coworkers.
I'll be sleeping! Over here on the other side of the pond all these so-called 'prime-time' events fall in the middle of the night! It's why I'm grateful for early Sunday afternoon games - I can watch them live without it costing me a whole night's sleep! As for the draft, I might just stay up long enough for the Dolphins first pick but if I do they'll probably trade back. Actually, maybe that's a good idea!
doing a shot every time Kiper says, "but Todd". Doing a shot of joy for every Miami player drafted I like. Doing a shot of grief for every player I don't. Basically just getting loaded while talking it up in a draft chat room with some of you idiots.
Going to a bar with friends for round one. I'll likely watch it at home on Friday then Saturday I'll listen to it on the radio since I have to drive 3 hours for a client meeting. I'll periodically check my phone for texts from other Dolphins fans likely *****ing about our selection... Likely one text from Mach saying he's done with Jokeland after they select Derek Carr at #5.
Since we are 6 hours behind the East Coast here in Hawaii, I hope that I have finished playing golf before the Dolphins have their pick in the first round. I have a group of guys and we usually tee off around 1:00 PM here, which is 7:00 pm in New York. I used to watch the draft for far too many hours, but now I just check my phone from time to time during the draft to see who the Dolphins took in any given round. If the Dolphins end up drafting in the first round after 11:00pm on the East Coast, I might make it home to see their selection. Any time earlier than that, I guess I'll just find out who they drafted when I get home or by checking my phone on the golf course to see who they selected. I enjoy the draft because it gives a new infusion of talent to the roster. I just no longer have the desire to sit around for hours waiting for each pick, like I did when I was younger. Playing a round of golf on the beautiful island of Maui, or sitting around listening to the draft guru's for hours on end. If that's my choice, I take golf every time.
No luck at all. I worked hard, saved my money and now I'm enjoying my remaining years in paradise. I hope you can one day also enjoy your retirement years in your own paradise.
Partying in SOBE. Probably won't be able to watch much of the draft this weekend, but will be following the forums obviously.
Draft doesn't start until 1am Friday morning over here....but I've taken Friday off as a holiday so beers and chicken wings it is both Thurs and Fri night.
I usually try to avoid watching at least the first round. When it was a Saturday deal I usually went to the beach and caught a late-afternoon recap in a sports bar somewhere, but since it went to the new schedule I've usually watched.
I didn't mean it literally, I know you worked hard, I just meant I wish I could do that one day...seems so unattainable.
I'll be watching it in a king size bed with several Dolphin Cheerleaders and many bottles of Crystal. Each cheerleader will do something wild, almost illegal, after every pick. We'll party until dawn. I'll kick them all out then pass out all day.
I'm paying to have both ends of the street I live on barricaded off and posting armed guards. Once the drafts nobody is allowed on or off the block. Airports have been told to reroute flight patterns, all phones are off. There will be no interruptions.
It depends if I'm fortunate enough to be watching it live or recorded. If it's live, I'll likely be hanging out here, shooting the ****... ie happy or sad. If I'm on tape delay, probably yelling at the family for not allowing me to watch it live. Either way, I'll be tracking it pick by pick, like a freak...
Damn, maybe I should be more of a hard *** on our GMs here that come and go, but I like to think even though their not my preferred players, I like to think the guy who got the job is better than me.
You just don't know the right people. It's an incestuous league. Hickey didn't get the job on his own merits. Philbin begat him. lol... Lets just he's the best GM we've ever had - or that he gets lucky as Hell.
As usual here in Switzerland: Night shift in front of the Computer - damned time lag. And of course a lot of beer to survive the surprising and the disappointing picks! And then after a short analysis the hope begins. My wife laughs every year when I tell her, how good the Fins will be this season...
I'll be at a bar here in Houston mixing it up with drunk Texans fans. If the Texans pick anyone not named Manziel, it's going to be funny as hell. They might burn the bar down. They have signs up on the highways begging for them to take Manziel...it is hilarious. Hopefully, I'll get to see one of these: As for our pick, I've learned to just go with the flow. Even if I hate the pick (which usually is what happens), later on I will just condition my mind to be okay with it. SSDD (same s**t, different draft).
Driving from AZ to San Diego early early Thursday morning, try to locate a sports bar. But if not, might just be watching from my phone from the beach this year. Little vaca.
