Yessir, this has "Coach Joe" written all over it, now Hickey has to earn his pay after being castrated in rd #1, to be clear I love the move to mobility in large players my issue is do not overpay in rd #1, the following rds are where money is earned. Not in love with those two picks, do think we need to upgrade athleticism still on the OL, and need some quality DT depth and a MLB...who is "our" MLB..which is not Ellerbe quite yet
We had 5 tackles with a first round grade. We took the last one. Other teams could have had it the same. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
We reached enormously for a huge, gaping, need. I am happy we filled the RT spot, but our GM failed today, by not trading down. It's a no brainer.
Yup, and I guess for those stupid Saints to see as well. Man they fell hook line and sinker for that silly YouTube highlight to trade up to 20 for him.
I like the pick, the pick itself I think was fine. They just left possibly a 3rd round pick on the table, and that's the disappointing part.
It's been 30 minutes, you have no idea whether he's over drafted or not. I actually take comfort in the team NOT doing what the fans wanted bc WADR fans tend to know nothing or even less than nothing.
More like due diligence man. Seems like he preferred to take his guy rather than risk loosing him for a 3rd rounder (if that was the offer). If he had other tackles rated around the same as James then he'd need to be a moron not to take the offer of an extra pick. So either he really, really likes James or maybe it wasn't the Saints calling since they assumed we would go OL. For all we know the offer could have been a team at the top of the 2nd and only offering their 4th with it. At the end of the day unless Hickey actually tells the media what offers he turned down then it's all conjecture on our part.
IMO it shows a total lack of class and maybe he should have said JJ would send something to his buddy in prison too , the one who should be freed.
I agree. Trading down was the best option. But we got the RT we needed. There's no guarantee that Carolina wouldn't of jumped us for him though. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Because there are several significantly higher rated o-lineman on the board still. Someone who needs o-line would have scooped them up. Check that, 6 picks without an o-lineman.
No we lost games because of our offensive line as a unit. No other place on a football field does the talent on one individual matter so little. We have a great center, how much did that do for keeping Tannehill upright? I think you find guys with talent that play as a unit. They don't have to be 1st round picks. You use those picks for positions where individual talent matters more. We had one of the best LT's in the game for years and it never really changed the results.
yeah. Like the significantly highly rated Johnny Football? Bridgewater? Not where you want to take this argument.
The Chiefs pick graded 5.7 equal to ours 4 picks later. You're right, we lost games because of our RT and our play calling. I just believe Ireland left us with a lot of cap space and value that we have utilized fairly well until that first pick. If Deon Jordan and Jamar Taylor step up this year, then getting rid of Ireland instead of Philbin was the wrong move.
Yup. I already pointed out how 1st round WR production kills that of 2nd round receivers. Meanwhile, 2nd round RT's comprise the best round of the league [excluding 1st round drafted left tackles who move to the right side b/c they can't cut it on the left].
They wanted a mobile Tackle, we now have that, did we overpay? Yep, it is relative tho, if he does play well then we did not overpay, the Draft is a funny beast a 5th rd pick plays at a high level, it negates the crappy play of a high rd pick I'm on record as saying you should never take an OL with a first rd pick, esp a later in the first rd pick. If he works out then awesome, if he does not we will look Jimmy Graham/John Jerry stupid yet again BTW..that Alabama Tackle come off the board yet
What are you taking about? Those are different positions! Let's put it this way...with 7 picks later and no olineman taken, it is extremely easy for me to prove the likelihood that our RT would be there at 27(and still be considered a reach) You PROVE to me who WOULD have taken James between now and 27? Instead of the higher rated tackles and guards left on the board. You prove who had James on their cross hairs? The trade down defense is a joke here man.
If you think we couldn't run the ball because no one was scared of us passing then you are dealing with a different reality to me. We couldn't run the ball because our OL couldn't run block worth a damn. They also weren't very good at pass blocking either btw.
You have to be a pretty big Miami apologist to not admit that Miami could have had James and an extra 3rd. James may be great (I actually had him as my 4th T), but pissing away a third is just poor draft management.
read my reply to bry. Someone being highly rated means jack. Its not cryptic. Seriously. HOw are you guys missing this?
