I like a couple of load and reload I'm not going to lie. Even st anger, has a couple of songs. In contrast though to their previous I hold those albums way below. Good point about garage inc. Releasing the original garage days cd with garage inc. was a great idea. Not to mention tuesday's gone and turn the page are really good songs.

I agree. The bar was just set so high with those first few albums. For most other bands Load or Reload would be the best they could offer. Either way they arent bad enough to make me forget the early stuff.

Better yet IMO...S&M where they recorded with the San Francisco Orchestra. I love that album, plus there were 2 previously unreleased songs on those discs, No Leaf Clover and Outlaw Torn. Great, Great albums!

Hogwash bro. Not only are their non-radio songs better then the rest in many cases but some their songs like Heaven and Hot Rods and Superman Silvergun are downright awesome live.

now if you said Scott Weiland is overrated...maybe. But the band itself has the capability of churning out beatlesque pop (sour girl, days of the week) or hard alt rock like much of their first cd and shows great range in their music and lyrics. Just imo....

They still rule live. They aren't overrated overall just maybe recently. Though I didn't hear anything good about that last CD so not sure how they are considered overrated.

Seems like this thread comes down to peoples own musical taste. Nothing more-nothing less

Overrated: (Though I love them all to varying degrees) Radiohead, U2, Staind, Sublime, and any punk band that formed after 1983.

They were the point on the bullet that meant the death of craptastic mainstream rock bands like Warrant, Poison, Winger, and Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi, like the New Jersey cockroaches they are, still survived. I wouldn't fault anyone for calling them overrated, because Cobain's suicide certainly vaulted them beyond whatever they truly meant to music at the time. But as someone who really didn't care for them at the time, they were already legendary before Cobain put the shotgun in his mouth.

OKay right there you lose some credibility by mixing in Dokken and Cinderella with those other two. Take time and listen to a few of their albums to see that those two bands had nothing to do with hair bands when you stripped away the first layer.

I'm not a fan of the hair bands either, but yea....thank the gods they went away! Going to a concert switched from a night of having a great show and being surrounded by beautiful women to a night of a bunch of guys dressed like slobs looking at their feet while they played and telling everyone how full of "angst" they were! Whoopie!

You want to show me where I said they didn't influence anyone? I said they did nothing NEW. As for influential, then I guess no one can say KISS is overrated then either huh? Influential means squat, or else you can say the first boy band was one of the musical highlights of it's time.

And for influencing emo, Nirvana should be hung in effigy.

Which flamed out pretty quick....and now guess what, all those metal bands are still out touring and doing well.

I didn't say they didn't have their place, and I didn't say that they didn't kick off the new genre.

    But they ARE overrated.

    IMO of course. :wink2:

Really? I loved, loved, loved their first album. During that whole nu-metal nonsense they were the one new band that could play true quality metal. (Honorable mention to Disturbed and the Deftones) Spleen is an awesome track.

But from their second album on it felt like the same pandering, mainstream, whiny ballads about how his father didn't love him. Never saw a band do a sell-out 180 faster in my life. IMHO of course, because there is nothing more subjective than music.

Absolutely fair enough. But if you did see them live you'd learn they earn every penny of their stature. You can hate their music, but their live shows are legendary and win new fans every night out.

They are the only mainstream band, other than the chili peppers, from their era to keep going without death, breakups, or irrelevance.

    ---

More Overrated: (Though, once again I don't dislike them) The Beastie Boys, Dave Matthews.
