The obligatory "So and So is getting cut, wat do?" thread.

Jacksonville drafted Marques Lee and Allen Robinson (*sigh*) yesterday, in the second round. Jacksonville already has a pretty deep WR core (Shorts, Sanders, Denard Robinson). And reports are, Blackmon has played his last game in Jacksonville and will be cut. He's going to lose around 10,000,000 in guarantees. Basically, he's starting from scratch. Given our image in the media, I find it hard to believe we'll gamble on any player, anytime soon. Kind of shame really, but that's how it goes. Not to mention, he's one drug violation from being Josh Gordan'd.

As deep as our WR core looks on paper, Gibson and Hartline are coming off of (IMO) major knee injuries. One of the two, along with Mike Wallace are unlikely to be on the starting roster in 2015. I imagine Landry will be kept in reserve his rookie year.

Any takers on Blackmon should he become available and the right financial scenario present itself?

I'd do it in a second.

I like Blackmon but I just don't see it happening. We are deep at WR and he's a problem child.

Hopefully he ends up somewhere outside the AFC East because I think he's good.

What a shame if true. Tons of talent and heart. Don't think he fits into our locker room.

I like Blackmon alot. When he's on the field. Off it...another headache. I think the Phins have seen enough of that lately. Shame. Good player.

Blackmon was originally suspended "indefinitely" and has to apply for reinstatement for 2014. Typically such suspensions last around 8 games (which he missed last year) but it is likely he is going to be suspended for all of 2014. The Jags were not necessarily talking "cut" but suspension.

The Jags GM hinted at such when asked about Blackmon and he replied, "we've moved on at least for this year" and that they weren't "counting on Blackmon" being available in 2014.

Even if he were cut - it is likely he would not be a factor in the league this year.

I liked watching him catch passes from Weeden when he played here at OSU and I was excited to see what he could do in the NFL but he isn't someone I'd waste my time on. He's too much of a knucklehead..

i think Blackmon had a alcohol problem and he might be less of a problem then Mike Pouncey and those other knuckleheads .

i would let Hartline and another wr go and use Gibson, Blackmon , Wallace, and Mathews.

You mean on the practice squad? Why would they do that and expose him to being stolen?

I'm starting to think some people have an issue with Hartline. He's the overwhelmingly most productive, rather see Wallace go over him.

    It is weird
Two years in a row he had been Miami's best receiver.
    People gave Camarillo more props.

I don't think he was our best receiver last season, and the year before it was by default.

Who cares if it is by default? He still had 1,000 yards when the only other receiver in the last 15 years to get 1,000 was Marshall.

Also, he had more yards, yards per catch, more catches and more run after catch than Wallace.

I see no way no how on Blackmon. We're now crazy deep at WR. No, we don't have an "alpha" #1, but we have a 1B in Wallace, who I believe can get better at timing with Tannehill under a better offensive system. We have Hartline, who I personally believe is one of the better #2 WR in the league, and is Ryan's security blanket. We have Gibson, so really shined as our #3 until he was hurt last season. He was definately our best Red Zone playmaker. Now we have Landry, who is by all accounts a tough, smart playmaker in the slot. And then add that we have Matthews, Binns and a few other guys now fighting for the 5th WR spot.

It may not be our best position on the team, but its one of the deepest. I see no need or positives in bringing in a knucklehead who's one strike away from permenant banishment.

I have no problem if they want to sign Blackmon, but I don't ever think he will be the WR many thought he would be when he first came into the NFL.

As far as your statement that that Landry will be kept in reserve this year. I certainly hope that is not the case. The Dolphins absolutely can not afford to waste a second round draft pick on a player who will be the 4th or 5th receiver on the roster. If he is as good as many people feel he is. I think the Dolphins should plan on him being one of their top three WR's this coming season. If that means trading Hartline, so be it. I prefer keeping Gibson over Hartline, assuming Gibson is fully recovered from his injury going into the season.

Rookies usually don't have success right away. It's a total myth that Rookies must start or they're garbage. Not sure where these unrealistic expectations come from w/fans.

I really don't know what I can do to prove to you that Hartline isn't a very good #2 receiver. Production stats mean nothing on a player as there are way too many variables. Its my own personal opinion from having played the position at various levels and just watching his tape. He's a great security blanket but I need more than that from a #2 receiver.

I think Landry is as pro ready a WR as there was in this draft. I'd be really disappointed if he didn't get solid playing time this season even with my understanding that you cant judge rookies right away.

People really don't think. Miami who already has a PR problem thanks to Bullygate, you want them to take on a player whose going to cause nothing but bad headlines?

A guy who will be out of the league entirely (like Gordon) in the next year or so because they have no control.

This team has far too many holes to fill and therefore they must rely on their rookies if they expect to be any better than they were last year. I NEVER said that a rookie is garbage if he doesn't start in his first year.It is simply that the Dolphins can't afford to do with this rookie class what they did with last years class.

Of course if you are satisfied with the same mediocre team they have been for the past five years, you will be quite happy to let these rookies sit and learn for a year.

Man, you can jump to a conclusion faster than than a preacher after a chicken leg. Who talked about settling for mediocrity. Most rookies for any form of complicated (i.e., involving intricate timing) activity have some time to learn before being thrown to the BIG DOGS! Throwing them to the dogs is what ruins them! Or, at least that has been the accepted wisdom for most football playing I have seen.

He'll be out of the league at some point altogether so I'd rather not see him here.
