What stat are you referring to? We were 21st in the league in total defense (Yards/game) and 8th in points per game allowed, which IMO is the most important defensive stat.

EDIT: Also 3rd in the AFC in points per game allowed, not bad if you ask me.

We were 12th I believe in points per defensive possession which IMO is better than ppg to judge a defense.

Bottom line, how many points you give up in a game is what's most important.

Don't think Delmas traits pair as well with Jones as Clemons did, personally. Also, not sure how our other corners will look. I don't think we're the worst D in the league, but we are probably in the 18th-24th range.

To winning yes. To judging a defense no.

i'll see that analysis and raise you a seriously better Dion Jordan, a better all around corner with physicality over Nolan Carroll Burnett, and I think earl Mitchellis a welcome change, I think we have some other guys that are entering their prime, cam is NOT going to slow down, I gurantee it.

It's really all about Dion Jordan, if he can play yup to what his ceiling is, than we can be better.if he can't, then we won't.

LOL. This may actually be the worst sports ranking I've ever seen in all the years I've been interneting.

I mean, it's not even being a homer. 32nd?!? They really think we have the worst defense in the ENTIRE league? Our defense is a lot closer to being the best than it is being the worst. Even if the D took a gigantic step back, we still wouldn't even be close to being dead last. I hope someone prints this big ol' pile of poopy out and hangs it up at the locker of every defensive player.

    Chris Owens. Lolllllllllllllllllllllllll.

This is so bad it almost makes me want to write them a nasty, condemning e-mail. I won't, but still. I'm not a BR hater like a lot of sports fans are, but this is a gigantic, steaming pile of crap.

    Ehh, I disagree Alex.

Points allowed should really be the number one stat for judging defenses. It's the only important one.

    Let me explain.

The offense can turn the ball over at the 1 yard line three times. The opponent can score three touchdowns.

Is that equal to a team giving up 21 ppg but three 80 yard drives?

My example is obviously extreme but my point is that field position greatly impacts the stat as well as the number of possessions a defense is on the firld.

    THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS!

I don't get why losing Carroll is a big loss...he was a turd with a few shiney spots. Sure, he played a little better than his previous years, in a contract year, and somebody paid him...somebody NOT the guys that really knew him.

The young'uns are progressing and CF will provide a spark...just as easy as they could decline a little, they could also improve a fair amount as well.

That's pretty much my take on it also. It's impossible to rank how defenses actually are because the whole "team" concept really impacts the reality of it. If your O is 3 and out all day, ya, your defense will suck. If your S/Ts suck all day long, ya, your defense will be garbage.

The chucklenut who wrote that article must have a crush on NC.

Exactly! And the effect can snowball very fast.

Defense allows a short TD, offense gets it on the 20 with a long field to drive. That is why it's so important for us to protect Tannehill this season and see if he is the guy. I believe he is but I understand the stance of the people who don't agree. All I know is that if he has a better season our defense is going to have a better season just by virtue of field position and not being on the field the entire game.
