Got the idea from a MLB board that I post on, when I ruffled a few feathers by saying that although I love my MLB team, my NFL team (the Fins) will always be #1 in my heart. It got me to thinking that although a lot of us probably assume that most here are hardcore NFL fans, perhaps some people are only casual football fans, and would rather watch baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, or nascar.

For me, the NFL is the easy #1. I'm a 365 day fan. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the Fins are the 3rd most important thing in my life after my family and my health. If forced to, I would easily give up all other sports rather than the NFL. In fact, if I could watch the NFL, or all other TV, I'm choosing the NFL.

After that, while I love my MLB team more than my college football team, I would much rather watch a random college football game not involving my team than a random MLB game. So, its kind of a tie for second.

I now watch no other sports beyond that. In the 90s I was a NBA and college basketball fan, and even tried to get into hockey one year, but it just wasn't for me.

    1) Dolphins
    2A) Miami Hurricanes Football
    2B) Heat
    3) Marlins

As a child I found baseball before football and would have had my Marlins #1. When I hear Dolphin fans talk about bad ownership I feel like they need to look at the Marlins and how they have turned die hard fans into guys who barely catch a game.

Dolphins are first for me by a WIDE margin. For example this is the only team I go on forums for and know inside and out. I am not nearly as passionate for the others as I am for the dolphins. I agree with the OP, I am just a bigger NFL fan in general. I can watch a random football game any time. I don't do that for any other sport really. Like I would never think to watch the combine or draft for any other sport besides football.

I have seen the Heat, Marlins and Canes win multiple world titles. The Dolphins? Never even seen them IN a superbowl. The lack of success x my love and desire of football = Furious passion unfathomably for my Miami Dolphins. It's not even close.

I've never even seen one of my teams compete for a title. The Fins last played in the Super Bowl when I was 7. The Cubs last played in the World Series before my parents were born. The WVU Mountaineers had a chance at the title game a few years ago and blew it.

For me though, it will make it all that much sweeter when one of them wins.

I got physically sick - literally puking in the toilet - when they lost the 92 AFC Championship game. After destroying the Chargers the previous week and playing the game at home, I was so convinced that they were going to the Super Bowl. I was also an emotional 15 year old at the time, lol.

I've seen limited success. mostly bridesmaid type outcomes

    - Dolphins getting butts kicked by Buffalo in playoffs during Marino era
    - my trailblazers losing to Jordan and Isiah Thomas during the Clyde-the-Glyde era
    - my Atlanta Braves won 1 championship
    - My Indiana Hoosiers lost in final four twice

WVU has a chance a few times. 88' Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame - Cries

Possibly could have shared it had we beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl but got trounced.

That game against Georgia Tech though will go down as my favorite game ever though, so fitting they won with the Miners trapped in the Coal Mine, I think that win gave WV something to smile about at a time when the whole state's hearts were broken.

That Florida game ( 93 Sugar Bowl?) was a disaster. Great WVU team though. Thats the year I became a big college fan. The 88 team was ranked 3rd going into the Fiesta Bowl, right? Would they have won the title had they beaten Notre Dame?

The only sport I really give a damn about is football. I put a lot more effort into following my beloved Fins, but I also love my Buckeyes; born in Columbus, dad went to OSU, etc., but it's so easy to follow the Buckeyes here. Just turn on any radio/tv and you are getting something daily.

I do like to watch the Tour in the summer as well.

The 88 game was our only real National Championship game..we were 2..ND was 1. The 93 season..FSU got the 2 spot and a chance to play Oklahoma I think for NC. We were 3 that season

    1) Dolphins
    2) UCF Football
    3) US Soccer team
    4) Miami Heat
    5) Bolivia Soccer team
    6) Panthers and Marlins

I have a few more teams I like but dont follow any like the top 5 of that list. Dolphins will always be my number 1 but UCF is a close 2nd, especially with the season they put together last year. The US Soccer team gets better each world cup and soccer is growing in America, I hope they can eventually win a world cup. The Heat are the only ones on the top 5 I saw win a championship (Unless you include the Fiesta Bowl) and not only once but 3 times. And I was born in Bolivia and will always cheer for them but the Dolphins have a better shot at winning back to back Super Bowls again than Bolivia has of qualifying to a world cup.

As far as sports goes, the NFL is #1 in my book as well. Love it. It's in my blood. But, other sports are big for me as well even though not as "high" in ranking. But, in terms of "teams" I live and die with, the Dolphins are basically 1b. Near tie but have to put them right now at 1b. I would definitely take a week off and probably tear up if they won a SB. :)

In my rankings, I'm going to put individuals from individual sports (Golf, Tennis) and also rank teams:

    1a. Duke Blue Devils
    1b. Miami Dolphins
    1c. Phil Mickelson

    4. NY Yankees
    5. Roger Federer
    6. LA Lakers
    7. Buffalo Sabres

    Sports:

    1. NFL
    2. NCAA Basketball
    3. Golf
    4. Tennis
    5. European Futbol
    6. MLB
    7. NHL

(though a Laker fan, not much of an NBA fan).

I don't understand myself, I guess being so consumed with the dolphins since I was 6 I've never been able to generate an affinity for another team in any sport.

The only time I felt a great rooting interest and genuine care was USA soccer in the World Cup 4 years ago.

Football is the main sport I follow 24/7. No offseason for me, as I'm constantly monitoring NFL Network, NFL radio, and various Podcasts. I've been a Dolphins fan since childhood. NBA (Miami Heat) is next, although I don't really follow the league in the same way I do with the NFL. With Football, I watch all the Dolphins games, as well as many other teams play. With Basketball, I'm only into following the Heat. Baseball bores me to tears. Can't get into Hockey, or Soccer.

I used to watch baseball and football about 50/50 until the baseball strikes of the mid 90s that included the canceling of one World Series. That experience soured me on baseball in general, and now I only follow the Reds, though not to the degree that I did in the era of the Big Red Machine. I had no sympathy for the baseball players during their strike, so fault them for the cancellation of all those games and the playoffs including the series. They are so damned overpaid compared to football players, when a damned middle reliever can make more than a Pro Bowl linebacker.
