I didn't watch it because I just figured it would be awful.

Why the **** does Hollywood have to take great tragedies and add a stupid effing love story "to make it relatable"?

People in their late 20's or 30's? lol...

Not a ASM fan, but he was pretty decent in Red Riding - a really fkd up mystery series. If you enjoyed "True Detective" check it out. It's British though.

Cause those fkrs know that women flock to this sort of quasi-romanticized period piece type s**t fluff film, and they lure guys in with some swords and sand and explosions.

You have Jon Snow from GOT playing a Celtic Gladiator and mostly standing around looking hurt and vulnerable when he wasn't suddenly transforming himself into Maximus Decimus Meridius as Spartacus, or making a bro-mance with his (at first hated, but later much loved) cell mate, who did his own Braveheart "Freedom" type scene at the end.

Almost walked out of the room when the ole Celtic horse whisperer gladiator emo boy snapped a horse's neck with his bare hands. Defuq? ~sighs... the s**t I put up with to keep the wife happy.

Wife wanted to watch it. I was able to switch it off through mutual consent after 50 minutes. This is a truly terrible movie. Its basically a cross between Men In Black and Ghost. Not in a good way.

I just came from Days of Future Past.

Wow, that was a fun movie.

It was a great way to hit the reboot button.

    Confession of Murder- 9/10
A detective is hunting a serial killer responsible for the death of 10 women. During the moment of truth, the serial killer gets the upper hand. He spares the life of the detective explaining he has big plans for him and leaves him with a souvenir. 15 years later, the statute of limitations is up and the serial killer write's a book, "I am a murderer" detailing his crimes and becomes an instant celebrity. A game of cat and mouse begins.

If you like Korean films (they're the best foreign films, IMO) then you'll love this, I suspect. A little outrageous at times, but a fascinating story. I don't know why, but Korean's do the serial killer genre better than anyone. Checkout "The Chaser," "I saw the Devil," and "Memories of a murder," for three terrific films. I'm not sure where CoM rank amongst those 3, but they're all terrific for their own reasons.

    'Stranger Than Fiction,' 2006.

These eight years later, this is the one movie that still has me by the heart, by the throat, by my soul. This is the one movie I can't watch without being emotionally dismantled, bit by bit, and reassembled just slightly differently than before each time.

Magic realism at its finest, yet not Latin-American at all. They got it right.

It was the best movie of the year, imo. Super smart, really well-acted, great vibe around the whole thing. I think it'll be the 2014 flick that stands up over time. It was good for lots of the reasons Up in the Air was so good a few years ago.

Saw Captain America WS recently...totally loved it.

    X-men: Days of Future Past

Loved it. Kinda want to go back and watch the GOAT X-men cartoon now... Ah, those saturday morning memories.

The only real complaint that I have, is how the relationship between Magneto and Charles (McKellen and Stewart) wasn't explored enough. More interaction between them as friends, allies, equals, who genuinely understand and accept the other would have set up a better dichotomy between their younger counterparts (which was great) and really bring their story full circle. I read that the editors cut out an adventure sequence involving them rescuing Rouge. I think that might have been a mistake.

And I kind of wish they had the balls to actually show Magneto and Mystique (as Oswald) killing JFK for retaliation for what happened in Cuba. That would have made an incredible opening sequence.

Still, a great X-men film. Looking forward to the next one. Speaking of which...

That end credit scene was pretty bad ***. I'm excited to see what they do with Apocolypse. Maybe Apocalypse senses that the past has been destroyed/erased/reset and gets involved that way?

But which cast will be featured? I guess they could do both again, technically. Might cost a fortune to get both casts back together... I'd be fine with the first class returning, and introducing a young Scott, Jean, and Storm. Then again, Fox hates to make X-men films without Wolverine being the star...

I saw Days of Future Past yesterday too, and while I liked and enjoyed it, I didn't love it. I liked where they went with the characters, but felt that the writing was a bit weak, and that they spent too much time focusing on some things that slowed the movie down, and not enough on others. And even as someone who's been an XMEN fan since the 80s and has seen every movie and lots of other background, I felt that they needed to do a bit more "catch you up to speed" segments. I thought that it could have used 15-20 more minutes of that at the beginning.

Groundhog day meets sci fi action flick. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt were very solid together and the story itself, while never breaking new ground, was enjoyable and well executed.

    Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

*yawn*. Terrible script. Predictable from the beginning to the end. Terrible bad guy straight out of a rejected James Bond script from 30 years ago. Borrows heavily from Bond and Bourne. Keira Knightley - just hit the fast forward button anytime you see her and save yourself the agony of having to suffer thru her scenes. And forget a Russkie Oligarch billionaire being able to hire former KGB/FSB/Spetsnaz assassins. Hell no! He goes for the pro's pro: Kamala, "The Ugandan Giant". Yeah... complete with terrible aim and no idea how to fight in close quarters. /sighs

Entire movie felt as though it was pieced together from other movies that were better done. Total "meh". Would have been pissed if I'd bothered at the theater. As it is, I'm quite sure that Redbox overcharged for this scatological bit of trite cinema. But hey, no Ben Affleck. So it has that going for it.

Anyone seen Sleuth [2007] with Michael Cain and Jude Law? What a fun, smart, psychological thriller built on an endless barrage of banter.
It's a remake of a 1972 version that was heavily nominated. Dual protagonists going at it. Cain was in both movies. Ironic part is Cain plays the opposite role in the remake.

Cain seems to like being in remakes of his former movies. He was in "Get Carter" with Stallone back in 2000, a loose remake of Cain's 1971 movie.

"The Frozen Ground" with Nick Cage and John Cusack... a surprisingly compelling movie I watched on Amazon Prime on a whim earlier.

Definitely Cage and Cusack's best work in years. The director reeled in Cage's usual over the top theatrics, so none of Cage's normal idiocy. The director also didn't overly exploit the subject which was based on a true story of an Alaskan serial killer in the late 70s/early 80s, and didn't go over the top with trying to make the bad guy too creepy. The movie felt cold and dark from the start and suited the subject matter. A few cliche moments at the end, but forgivable. The follow up on the victims at the very end was sobering as well.

It also had a pretty good cast as well - apart from 50 Cent, who was easily the weakest link in the movie playing a pimp (of all things. Go figure.) If you're a Breaking Bad fan, you'll recognize Dean Norris in a familiar role.

I was surprised to like the movie (maybe it's the beer), but would watch it again.
