Thanks ATVZ, I hope they get it done so they don't miss any part of TC.

Once some other 2nd rounders sign, it'll be easier I think...then they will know what the other guys are doing with the 4th yr of the contract...either accelerating the bonus to the 3rd yr or whatever it may be...

this is just ridiculous.... why hold out? you're a 2nd rounder and are only shooting yourself in the foot by doing something like this.

I seriously doubt this gets to the level of a hold out. Merling's situation is complicated by virtue of NE forfeiting their pick and it technically makes him a first rounder. Easy solution...split the difference between what the 32nd and 33rd player's increase would be. Still not talking about a huge amount of money.

Henne, I think will be in. I think the solution there is if he's starting, incentives pay him a "starters" salary. The club could also have an option for the fourth year, and if they choose not to exercise it, he could be a FA.

Neither of these situations is insanely hard to negotiate. The team nor the player is benefited from a hold out, so I think they find a way to get it done.

i agree with most everything you said, which is why i think there is no reason they should not already be signed and good to go.

Don't care if Henne holds out (which he won't, who heard of a late 2nd rounder holding out?) because he's going to run the scout team all year!

Seriously though if the kid holds out even one day I believe his shot to start is 0...

...unless you thought his shot was already 0 in which case his shot would be around -10 at that point. :shifty:

Like what was said in a earlier post, it doesnt matter because Henne will not start. Neither will Merling. Late second round hold outs.....WTF.:pity:

Well, by my watch, they've got 14 days to get these deals done.

Second Round Holdouts. That's an oxymoron of sorts. Has that ever happened before?

I don't disagree in principle, but to the players defense, this is the ONLY time in their careers that they will have ANY leverage with the team. The agents have to explore every opportunity to make the most of it.

I think both will be on time, even if its on the eve of TC. Even though, as you and I both seem to know, because of slotting, this is as much a "charade" by the agent as anything else.

you don't know that. If they suck as players and don't warrant another contract in their careers, maybe.... but that is a poor attitude to have, don't you think? to assume you'll be a bust and this will be the only contract you'll get.

at any rate they should also realize that the sooner they get to camp, the more reps they'll get with the team and the greater chance they'll have at becoming a starter.

its a two-way street, and the team has the greater leverage here. a 2nd-rounder has very little clout in negotiations IMO.
