http://espn.go.com/blog/miami-dolphins/post/_/id/7902/updating-miami-dolphins-salary-cap http://www.spotrac.com/cap-tracker/nfl/2014/ Dolphins at #9 overall with over 16 mill in space. Hmmm, every year there are always surprising cuts, we look to have some space to make a few moves, where would you like to see us get a player if we had to?... I mean this is a pivitol year for the coaching staff and it seems to me all resources should be on deck without compromising our future, to get as far as possible, especially after the choke that was displayed at the end of last year.. I'm not big on adding players during camp cuts and I don't see an immediate need unless a good guard or tight end gets cut, but. Maybe were one of the 8 teams interested in Jermichael Finley, we could afford him obviously, and there is a need to upgrade one of the skill positions for Tannehill, but with Philbin having first hand knowledge of the player, we are at the mercy of his discretion. We don't have a returner on the roster it seems, maybe there is a move there to be made, I can't fathom how we keep ignoring this critical position, I'm hoping that Rishard Matthews at least get some run there this year, especially if Landry beats him out and his reps are lessened..dude was an excellent punt returner in college, I don't get why he's not given the chance. Those are the three positions I can see us looking for something if it gets cut or if there is a trade to be had..
I'm pretty sure the salary cap situation is less palatable in 2015. They're not in a position where it isn't a concern next year. There will be people released or restructured for cap considerations.
A few good players to sign, however there are at least two that need to improve A LOT or will be cut to save space.
Have to get ready for extensions for Mike Pouncey, Charles Clay, Jared Odrick, and maybe Tannehill. That's a hefty amount of coin if you do all three of those.
Use it to lock up a veteran or two to a longer term deal and front load the contract with bonus money. I dunno, sounds good anyway.
Not necessarily IMO since the money doesn't disappear. I think it'd be better to let this year's roster play out, especially with the new scheme and all the young guys who need a chance to show what they got, then spend the FA dollars on an impact player next year or use it for future contracts. The one exception for me would be if Coyle thinks he needs an extra big body for situational run support and Isaac Sopoaga comes at a bargain.
Hmmm, I'm not sure this staff, the expectation of this season, can have so much of a relaxed approach.. I mean think about this, if Philbin has good regard for Finley, you think they shouldn't go after him because of the reason you stated?, we obviously have a hole next to clay, Tannehill needs another weapon, I can't justify not going after someone like that..
It is easy to remain well under the cap when you aren't paying a great deal of money to your starting QB. The teams which have the least amount of cap space are basically those teams who have QB's they have signed to large contracts for several years. These are also usually the teams which end up with winning records and who go to the playoffs most often. If Tannehill turns out to be the QB many on here think he will. The Dolphins will soon enough be spending near the top of the cap to keep him in Miami. Once the Dolphins have a true top tier QB, we will all see if Aponte is good at her job or not. An average team with average talent has made it easy for her to keep the salaries down since she has been here.
sure, it comes with the territory, he's got two years left, I say two because unless he takes a dramatic step Of improvement this upcoming year, I'd like to see what level he's at 2 years before I give him that big mama contract.
I think that if the right player were to get cut, then I'd be all for taking a look. But at the same time, as others have said, we're likely to use some of this 16 mil next offseason to reup a few guys. Thankfully, we don't have that many to resign, and the cap is likely to spike again, but hey, wouldn't it be nice to add a few more pieces?
I don't think that he gets one from the Fins unless Starks implodes this season and is cut before next year's contract kicks in, but I could definately see someone else giving it to him. I think that DT is on the short list for the 1st round pick next spring.
Big guys for a 4-3 are hard to come by, if we let Starks leave should we reset as a 4-3, thus playing more to jordans strengths?
Randy Starks for $12 million and 2 years is not a reason to keep from re-signing/extending Odrick who will more than likely have an outstanding season in year two at DT and at his leaned up size. I would be quite disappointed if the aging vet were prioritized ahead of the young and still ascending DT, regardless of how good Starks was last year.
