A new era begins for the Dolphins, as the curse of Dan Marino ends.

Last season was the final year in which the curse of Dan Marino took its toll on the Dolphins. For 13 years, the Dolphins have been stuck in mediocrity and terrible teams. And last year, just 13 years after Dan the Man retired from football, was the worst year in Dolphins history. With the lineman bully scandal or whatever you want to call it, it was bad, bad publicity and bad on the field. The Dolphins set an NFL record for most sacks allowed in a season and choked at the end of the season by not even scoring a point in the last two games.

But now we begin a new era, an era led by the great Joe Philbin and Ryan Tannehill. I believe these two will be the next best QB/Coach tandem we have in the league. We are going back to the glory days of the 70s, folks. You heard it here first! We are back!

    2 quick things..

The Cam Cameron experiment was rock bottom when we finished 1-15 and drafted Ted Ginn's family. Playing for a wild card week 16 doesn't qualify as the worst year ever.

Second, if you believe the curse is over I suggest you change the avatar from a disgruntled fan to something a bit more positive.

Well, ****. I know the Lions sure wish their worst was as good as our worst. But yeah, the 1-15 season was our low point.

From a football standpoint I'd agree. From a whole franchise perspective last year was bad though. Mainly off the field.

We did not set an NFL record for sacks allowed. Team record maybe, but not NFL. Not even close to an NFL record.

But just to make last year's oline failure hurt a little more....

I do have to say I'm excited for this season more than I have been any other in a while.

The 1986 Philadelphia Eagles, quarterbacked by Randall Cunningham, own the National Football League sack record with 104

A lot of things would have to go right for us to 'go back to our glory days'. But, I do like the players and coaches we have. I can't really say that we're weak at any position, on either side of the ball, so that's good.

And, I do admire your optimism. I hope you're right. It sure would be nice to root for a winning team again.

Wait, what? Gotta work on the math a bit better, brother.

Last year was year 14 without Marino (who retired in 1999). This year, 2014, will mark the 15th year without Marino as QB.

That said, I am pretty optimistic. Player's seem pumped. The offense gives me a lot more optimism with the new OC, the revamped OL, and a QB who realizes he had a number of failures last year and has to improve.

We get 80+ catches for 1200+ yards and 8-10 TDs from Wallace (very attainable, imo) and I think we'll be 10-6 and in the playoffs.

The one concern early on that I have (aside from injuries, of course) is Moreno's bad conditioning. Seriously, get it together!

This front office and coaching staff are a collection of third and fourth choices. Our glory years were the result of Shula, a championship coach who was in such demand that we had to give up a draft choice for tampering, and coaches he brought with him. It takes top people to get to the top as quickly as Shula did. We don't have any.

I'm not saying we can't get there, but our coaches and front office are going to have to do it the hard way -- teach themselves and learn to acquire and develop the personnel. The only way we could duplicate what happened in the early 70's is to bring in a modern Shula equivalent and give him full control, as Shula got. I don't see that happening.

Dan Marino has nothing to do with it.

While I applaud your ability to look at the future as positive. I just have to wonder why you seem to think Philbin is going to last past 2014. Perhaps you fail to realize that if Philbin had his way, he would have made no coaching changes from the 2013 coaching staff. Personally I see him as a a below average HC and I continue to be amazed that he was ever hired as an NFL head coach in the first place.

Tannehill still has a long way to go before he can be considered an above average NFL QB, much less a great QB. The reality is that the Dolphins could just as easily been 15-17 the past two years with Matt Moore as their starting QB. So until Tannehill actually shows he can lead this team to the playoffs on a consistent basis, it is very difficult to project that he can be anymore than a mid to bottom tier QB in the NFL.

Of the two, I think Tannehill has a chance to become a quality QB in the NFL over the next few years. Philbin on the other hand, I think he will be an assistant coach of another team in 2015. Because I think your so called great coach will be shown the door by Ross after the Dolphins 2014 season is over.

I see you're not very optimistic about this season. I, on the other hand, actually think we will be making the playoffs saving Philbins job.

I question your true fandom because your post has major inaccuracies. First off the most sacks was the Eagles in 1986 with 104, nearly twice as many as the Dolphins allowed last year. We did score 7 points in the last game, so saying we didn't score - not sure how much of a true fan you are.

I also read a bit of sarcasm into your "the great Joe Philbin and Ryan Tannehill" - also the way you bring up "glory 70's" .....leds me to just have a gut feeling you are a trolling Jets or Pats fan.

Beware of this one. Watch him.

I actually agree. The negative vibes put out by Ireland are gone, and I think the whole franchise looks like a weight has been taken off it's collective shoulders. I'll remind folks, some of us called for this change years ago - as many as 3 seasons ago. And we were shouted down as disloyal and not "true fans". We were right.
