And Carter's been playing for about $3M per the last three years; it's not inconceivable he could take the minimum to join the Heat and win rings.

Carter would be interesting but not at the expense of a younger similar player if possible. If he takes the minimum sign that man up.

Mediocre is being extremely kind. He makes Carmelo look like Tony Allen or Paul George on D.

Some sort of report about the big three giving Riley a "window" to upgrade via free agency?

Love the analogy Rizz came up with of the big three giving Riley money to spend at the free agent store BUT HE BETTER BRING BACK THEIR CHANGE.

Also, who becomes the first official Free Agent to reach an agreement? My guess is Lowry.

We got 56 million in cap space..we can afford a lot of things and we have a knack of getting people to take less.

I would touch base with him.

Hottest free agent is a heat target.

    Luol Deng.

Heat does have interest in bringing back RIO on a reduced salary.

Will touch base with Ariza early, along with Marvin Williams, and Shawn Marion. Along those lines, a new interesting name popped up..Trevor Booker.

Vince Carter will be pitched as a 5th wing, which can see 15 min. A night. Dont think that role will appeal to him.

Backup plan to losing Rio is Steve Blake..but that is soft.

Lowry has more suitors than you can shake a stick at.

He is a RFA. If you try to go for less money, chances are that Houston matches. And a large portion of that $56 million is earmarked for a couple of other players, me thinks. I like the thought, but he seems like a longshot for Miami, as is Ariza.

So I'm guessing the Heat are targeting wing defenders who can shoot the 3 (Mike Miller types) to fill the cap space. We are sticking with small ball and Bosh will play the 5. I'm also interested to see who they are targeting for the LME.

Being able to dictate who you wanted to play with is power that may have existed (as I mentioned the Spurs did it), but it wasn't widely accepted or known by the public as your post calling it "tampering" proves. Obviously it isn't tampering since only teams can tamper though. What Lebron, Wade and Bosh did was actually follow through. Players had always talked about playing together but most were too greedy to take less to make it happen. That was why most players never had power b/c the owners had the gold and he who has the gold rules. The big 3 valued dictating who they wanted to play with above the money. That let them exercise power that few realized they had.

Isaiah Thomas' agent says heat have interest.

Pretty, shiny 20 ppg scorer...but he has a skill set that doesnt fit a need. Rio/Napier a better fit.

Heat will meet with Lowry's Reps in the Morning.

Riley...you old dawg..I see what you are doing...

Heat fans..we may never lose another game if the Godfather pulls this **** off.

Thomas/Luol Deng or Lowry/Marvin Williams is a MASSIVE Free Agency Haul...and I think he is going for just that.

I think at this point, its becoming clear exactly what is happening...

LeBron has no desire to leave Miami. That is more than obvious.

Even when it comes down to his compensation, its somewhat of a moot point for him. Whatever salary he makes will potentially hurt his dynasty, thus his legacy and earning potential.

There is only one logical piece for LeBron to negotiate for. That is how much Arison willing to spend in tax money. That is the only thing LeBron can get that won't inherently limit his potential to put a team around him.

LeBron demanding the max is essentially his opening offer to Arison. If Arison wants to own a dynasty, he has to pay up, just like LeBron is.

The equivalent to 12 mil a year for Miami based on the Canadian Tax Burden is around 8.5 per year. Heat can be competitive for Lowry.

This is what happens when you tax and spend kids....you lose basketball players to other states.....

They get healthcare though :couch: lol

In all seriousness the exchange rate has gotten better but we can probably equalize the money, depending on what the Big 3 are giving up. And that's the thing, it's impossible for us to really know what's going on because we don't have the numbers. Riley does.

Has a guy coming off a rookie deal ever turned down the max extension?

Bron, Wade and Bosh took the shorter deals to get free in 2010, but they still took the deals.

The sad part about the Eastern Conference is that with him, Wiggins playing the 2, Ariza 3, and I KNOW THIS IS NOT HAPPENEING but if Bron ever went back, they would be the favorites for the EC.....

Thomas is another RFA that looks to be getting close to 6-8 million. Anything less and SAC matches. He is more realistic than so,e other candidates for the Heat, but again, I just don't see it happening. Deng makes a lot of sense to me though.

I think you could add Lebron to any team in the east and then make the argument they would be the favorites to get to the finals.
