Was told that the Heat would have competition for Marvin Williams if it came to it with the Knicks, among other teams.

Heat hasn't moved on from Deng yet, so we shall see what happens on that.

I think regardless. He is a perfect Phil Jackson Player' type BTW.

It's for the best. He would probably play the 5 in L.A. next year too if he came back due to Julius Randle being drafted. I still think The Knicks make an awful lot of sense for him. I am torn on whether I want him back in L.A. If The Lakers were able to net Carmelo and an adequate point guard, I could live with Pau-Randle-Melo-Kobe-PG as a starting unit.

The rumors are that L.A. Is only offering 1-2 year deals to just about everyone they have talked to. Clearly looking for flexibility for 2016. That changes if they land a big fish, obviously. Mitch has been all over the airwaves stating that they intend to make a "big splash." Most Lakers fans are reading that as 'Melo. I am more inclined to think he means some sort of trade, but I would settle on a new coach to start.

The Heat would only offer a 1-2 year deal as well.....because the market will be so good in 2016.

I agree. I'm torn on whether I want him back or not. No secret I love Melos game but he's also going to be 31 by the time we are ready to add significant pieces unless something gets done in season. Could go one of two ways. Could resign and try and trade for Marc Gasol now (giving up THJr etc) or they can suck for a year use their high pick next year on the best Sg available and hope for Love and M Gasol in 15 and Durant in 16...

Not sure there is a situation that attractive for melo besides Miami and I'm not sure he would take that much less (he'd be giving up a boatload of cash). Most attractive team out there IMO May be Dallas

The Heat..as I reported have Luol Deng as their clear cut #1 target.

They were presented with the opportunity to make a competing offer for Kyle Lowry today, and they declined.

Windy says that the Raptors, Rockets & Lakers are current bidders, and he has not made up his mind.

I have no word if the Heat are willing to enter negotiations. I was told they are not interested in any bidding process (which is IMO, the way to proceed. You are either with us NOW..or not.), and thus the reason they were very skeptical on Trevor Ariza (he is currently trying to get every dime that is available).

Mhm. This is a squad you quite literally have to buy into given the opportunity. We don't need them at all, if that's their mindset.

That said, I won't get on anyone for taking the money. Championship rings don't guarantee any financial security (just ask Scottie Pippen).

But I walk away from anybody that starts to to compare numbers. Seems Lowry wants his payday. Don't blame him.

Heat can sign Deng outright, correct? They don't need a sign and trade to fit him under cap?

Rose had to do a private workout in front of Melo...lol. That is sad.

Houston is ready, Melo. Olajuwon, Drexler, Harden, Dwight, McHale, and Morey meeting him in the morning. Yao Ming is on the phone. Billboards are up and ready to go.

    Get it done, Dream.

Avery Bradley 4 for $32 from Boston.

    Just ridiculous numbers out there.

Not sure how we convince top guys to take less when there are plenty of dumb teams with cap space burning a hole in their pockets out there.

Stars taking less and mediocre role guys making stupid salaries. I really think they need to get rid of max salaries.

Getting rid of max salaries would do more to stop superteams than the luxury tax is doing.

It's one thing to take $18 million instead of $22 million.

It's another thing to take $18 million instead of $30 million or more (if you're Lebron James)

I think they should have a hard cap with no max salaries and a high salary floor.

If the hard cap is 85-90 million and you had a clean sheet, would it be worth it to pay LBJ $50 million per year and make due splitting the remaining $35-40 million between 11 other guys?

The answer is yes. Lebron James and four crash test dummies would have a chance at getting out of the East.

We live in a world where Avery Bradley gets $8 million to play basketball slightly better than I.

It makes me wonder what Lance Stephenson is going to command now. And Kyle Lowry may want to call up Toronot and any other team that is interested and inform them that his rates just went up.

Agree 100%. I know the union likes to inflate the mid-tier guys' salaries, but Avery Bradley at $8mil seems to be excessive. And owners like the certainty that comes with max salaries - they won't get stuck paying Rose or Roy $30-40 million to get hurt.

If they got rid of max salaries they'd probably need to find a way to get out from under contracts if a guy gets hurt or stinks. Still seems like a better solution than the current model, though.

Gilbert Arenas made more than Lebron James last year from the NBA and he's playing in China. Let that sink in for a minute.

The NBA salary cap is just dumb.

That's an interesting topic I'd like to hear more from Sec and some of the insider guys on what to expect with the next lockout... or at least what the attitude around the league is with how Silver plans to act.

You want to fix the system?

Raise the Cap and make it a hard cap like the NFL. then open the books of the teams to adjust the cap each year. Simple.

No salary rules. Just a Minimum.

Next lockout will be ugly. But the players always cave...so we shall see.

The NBA ripped off the players in this last lockout.

there is a possibility of a uncapped year in 2017.

It is my theory that Lebron will sign a contract that will make him a free agent by 2017..he will then ask for a 1 year 50 million dollar deal.
