I watched a little of the Dreamhack too. I think watching Hearthstone streams and tournaments is a little different viewing experience from other games and sports. When you're watching baseball, you know you'll never be able to turn on a 97 MPH fastball, or have Kershaw's curveball. You know you'll probably never have the reflexes to be good enough in LoL, or whatever.

But you can totally put yourself in a Hearthstone players shoes and play along with them. It can be fun to try to make the play that you would make and see how their play differs.

Definitely a part of it, there's no mechanical skill separating professionals from your average person. My friend's case is pretty rare but he played WoW and was very good at it but he's paralyzed and his hands are not 100%, this creates a certain wall he eventually hits in WoW because of his disability but in Hearthstone that is never a factor.

My goal for season three was rank 10 and I ended up one win from rank 6 before dropping back down to 10. I decided to stop laddering so I could make my goal because wasn't confident I wouldn't keep falling. I'm not real sure what happened other than I kept tinkering with my deck and I started seeing nothing but rush decks. My highest Arena run had been 6 wins, normally average 3, and lately was lucky to even do that but ended up hitting 8 today. That got me my entry fee back, some dust, a golden Thoughtsteal, and a pack which included a golden legendary (Lorewalker Cho). So a decent day for Hearthstone. This weekend there is going to be a local fireside gathering that me and my friend are going to. There's a tournament there which I will enter but I think this is more a casual/meet-up type thing.

For ranked I have been using a midrange Hunter, though I may start using Miracle some since I've been practicing with it in casual. With my Arena run I used a Druid and guess I just finally drafted a decent deck. My friend doesn't have many cards and was at rank 20 last season, he came over Monday night and I made him a Zoo deck with what he had. We hooked his laptop up to my screen so I was able to kinda coach him through some games and then after that I let him play without me saying anything. When new season started he won about eight games in a row with the Zoo deck and stopped at 17.

Having tons of fun playing Ramp Druid lately. There's nothing like playing a turn one Cairne, or turn 3 Rag.

What's your deck look like? I've played Ramp a little but probably missing one or two cards for it. Turn one Yeti is always fun and had a guy do that to me on my Rogue tonight and didn't have much in my hand to deal with it, figured I'd lose but pulled it out. I've been doing Miracle on ranked and doing ok so far, have everything really but Van Cleef. If I see that I will keep using Rogue then I'll craft one.

    This is my Ramp list:

I've actually found Combo/Midrange Druid to be more consistent. The double Force of Nature + Savage Roar combo provides a lot of reach against Handlock and Miracle before they overwhelm you in the late game. Here's that list:

Also, always keep your saps against Druid as a Rogue. If they innervate something big out early, a sap wrecks them. You'll be so far ahead.

I think I like the combo/midrange style a little more, with two FoN you also have some flexibility using it as a clear. A few days ago I got a golden Lorewalker Cho and today I got a regular Cho (both off my Arena pack). I do love goldens but I could disenchant the golden and gain another legendary. I'm still missing some key ones like Rag, Cairne, and Black Knight.

But it's sparkly! Yeah, just a matter of which legendary. You ever play with Token Druid any? It's interesting to watch but not sure I'd want to play it over ramp/midrange. I made a midrange Shaman to get my daily done and that was pretty fun, just casual but went 8-2.

I haven't but I probably will at some point. Druids are just so consistent against everything so I'm trying to explore that further.

It sucks a lot playing as Handlock for example and queueing into Control Warrior and knowing that the game is already pretty much over. Druid just doesn't have a bad match up.

So I played a Control Warrior at a tournament, what would have been some of my better options for that?

Shaman seems decent against Druid or no? Have decent amount of taunts between totem/feral, two hexes for the big targets, good chance of beefed up lightning bolts, etc. I think a midrange Hunter has a good shot against Druid; a string of Druids actually landed me a game from rank six last season. Just with Deadly Shot, Kill Command, Hunter's Mark, and possibly Freezing Trap there is a lot of removal and potential for Hunter to control the board. Of course not sure how often you'll even see a non-aggro Hunter.

What kind of tournament were you in? Control Warrior is an interesting choice for sure. Do you have the full list? I've been meaning to enter into a community tournament for a while now.

Shaman is favorable but it's not totally lopsided like other matchups can be. Teching in a Starfall or two might even make it close to be even. Hunter is interesting, but as you said, there's very few non-face Hunters running around.

It was a local one that I had seen Blizzard list on their Fireside Gatherings page. Funny thing is I played Miracle and thought I had lethal, added it all up, busted my stuff out and realized I was one damage short. I can't even really offer a good excuse except I got excited, definite lesson learned though. The guy who won the tournament I actually beat in a match before things started.

Yeah, I could see Shaman and Druid not being too much either way. A Thalnos/Azure Swipe could kill a Fire Elemental and wipe all your totems. I do feel like Hunter is a good counter to it and actually watched a tournament vid with that matchup, was close but Hunter won. With only one big target at a time Freezing Trap/Deadly Shot become pretty useful. Buzzard and UTH won't be as great and Highmanes will get silenced but other than that. Hunter does have few taunts though so have to be careful to stay above 14 health.

Naxxramas pricing announced. Probably won't be much longer before Naxx comes out, which I'm looking forward to as Ranked/Arena can get repetitive at times. I raided the WotLK version of Naxx countless times so will have that bit of nostalgia when I get to fight the bosses in Hearthstone. My favorite was always Patchwerk because I was a Hunter and loved testing my DPS against everyone else, that and I usually won. *toot toot*

Here's one list of terms. I think like football, you just learn more terminology the more you're around it. Mainge's link describes Ramp pretty well and as far as Miracle it's a Rogue deck that at its core cycles cards, especially with Gadgetzan Auctioneer, to get to their better cards and combos. Sometimes the Rogue wins through just regular damage but Leeroy Jenkins with Shadowsteps and/or Cold Blood tends to be the finisher; a double Shadowstep Leeroy on turn 8 is 18 damage.

Sure, we can play a few Mainge.

Ended up making it to the 3rd round in yesterdays Soulfire tournament. I took the first two games mostly on the back of this Crusher Shaman that has been floating around lately:

I dropped Bloodmage Thalnos in favor of another faceless, and I dropped a lighting bolt for another Earthshock to use against Handlocks.

Turn 3 Injured Blademaster + Ancestral Healing is great. And an Earth Elemental + Ancestral Spirit followed by a faceless the following turn is almost impossible to beat. Unfortunately I ran into a Hunter which is a nightmare matchup against Shaman. Then couldn't draw Auctioneer in game 2 and that was that.

Nice with the tournament. Interesting deck, a lot of control through beefy taunts and spells. I played a more midrange Shaman some which is fun but you need board presence for Flametongue not to be a dead card and same really with Defender of Argus. My Miracle has seen an Earth Elemental or two lately and thought that was strange, not used to seeing those, don't think they were running that exact deck though. I'm 8-3 against Shamans on ranked using Miracle.

I had a nice run on ranked yesterday, won nine in a row and missed ten by one turn. My most satisfying game was a Druid who milled me and actually destroyed Leeroy around turn four. I knew I might be in trouble but kept on. I made an 8/8 VanCleef and concealed it, then after attacking once I was silenced. Either that was his last Keeper of the Grove or he used the second one later but after the last Keeper I Shadowstepped VC back and made him an 18/18. Was pretty proud of myself for winning without Leeroy.

edit: After making my post I went and played ranked and funny enough my first game was a Shaman using that deck. I meant to say earlier that on paper it looks like a scary deck for Miracle with all the taunts. He started off the game early with your Injured Blademaster/Ancestral Healing combo so I took a gamble on no Earth Shock and used an 8/8 VC. I used VC to kill the Blademaster then Farseer to heal him up, he then facelessed my VC so traded VC's. Little bit later he used Rag and ended up Cold Blooding my Farseer to kill him. Then he pulled the Earth Elemental/Ancestral Spirit combo and somehow ate through that. Then he played another Earth Elemental. I had lethal in my hand for a while but couldn't get past the taunts. Kill of the third Earth Elemental and then he drops Sen'jin and gets a taunt totem. I'm thinking you gotta be kidding me and just hoping he doesn't have enough burst to kill me in one turn. After killing those he used another Sen'jin but my Sap finally made an appearance and gave Leeroy room to do his thing. All told with totems I faced eight taunts and drew my entire deck. Fun game though and makes me curious to try out the deck, I just don't have Rag yet.

My deck only runs one Sap too so probably got a little lucky with my win. Just got a 7 win Arena run and in my pack I got my second Earth Elemental (thought I already had two) so guess it's meant to be for me to make that Shaman deck. lol

Been playing this game a little more lately. Still not good but Mage is easily my best class. Just got 5 ranked wins in a row. Probably gonna stick with that for awhile and craft some cards to make it even better. Any good ideas for which cards I should be crafting? Particularly for a Mage control type deck.

A popular streamer named Trump hit Legend with a free-to-play Mage so googling "Trump F2P Mage" gets you different decklists as I assume he received more cards and added them in. Here's one link discussing one of his decks during that run. If you're wanting to do a control type Mage and don't have the cards for a freeze Mage or giants Mage then his decks are probably a good thing to look at. Aggro Mages tend to be cheaper if you ever want to do that. Not sure which cards you have but Mana Wyrms find spots in a lot of Mage decks, and Harvest Golems/Azure Drakes are cards found in a lot of decks with a lot of different classes.

I have a couple Mana Wyrms already. I'll give this Trump guy a look for sure. Right now my deck is pretty much based around getting powerful cards on the board and taking out the opposing minions with polymorph/flamestrike, and then using direct attack spells to finish him off. It's effective so far, but probably won't be a great option later. I have some dust saved up so I'll look into some of these deck builds later to see what cards to make.

DrAstroZoom, you were asking about some of the lingo and deck names, and this was just posted on reddit which tries to list the names and links to different decks.

Trump is an experienced player and sounds like his deck's style is similar to what you want to do, and since he never used money he doesn't have a crazy amount of cards that you might not have if you're still missing a lot of them. Here is a playlist of all his F2P Mage videos. My friend was asking about what cards to use his dust on for his Mage just in general and I said Ice Lance. Ice Lance can offer a lot of burst to finish a game with Frostbolt, works well with many spells including Water Elementals, and in emergencies can freeze a threatening minion for a turn.

For those who played and enjoyed it but got tired of the single-player content, Naxxramas comes out tomorrow with the first wing being opened up. I'm hoping it's not something you can blow through in thirty minutes and that the AI is tuned well but we'll see. If nothing else the new cards are sure to create new decks.

So i have enough to create my first legendary. Any ideas? Looks like Leeroy Jenkins, Ragnarok, Ysera, Cairne Bloodhoof seem to be the popular choices. Archmage Antonidas looks really good for my mage build, but Malygos looks like he can be devastating in a mage build, or even a rogue or druid build.

Leeroy, Ragnaros, Black Knight, and Bloodmage Thalnos are probably the most used and best legendaries; they also can fit in multiple decks. I have Antonidas and I've had fun with him but for me I find he takes a lot of setting up. Since he's almost always killed on the turn you play him you need a low cost spell you can use with him to get that extra Fireball/s. You can try to save something like Mirror Images to protect him from minion damage but that's two cards and eight mana, and sometimes you need the images earlier to stall pressure. When they do remove him he is eating up a removal or soaking up damage so he's not useless if you're not able to get the benefit of his ability, but the rolling Fireball dream doesn't happen often. At least in my limited experience, you might have better luck, but even with all that said he's still not a bad card.

I would probably save my dust and work on getting commons/rares/epics that I need unless you play one deck that needs a legendary to function. I say that just because one legendary is a lot of dust and I changed what decks I played a lot. It's all about fun though so if you see a legendary that will fit with your deck then go for it. If someone asked me just in general which legendary to craft, I'd probably say Leeroy or Rag, though Naxx may shake things up a little.

Been holding off on crafting cards. Now that I have plenty of dust I think it's time to build a deck. Rogue and Warlock seem to be the most popular, but Priest is fun to play. Or maybe I'll just start with buying some of the best neutral cards since I like switching up decks

Rogue and Warlock have both been strong for a little while, and Priest is seeing a surge of popularity.

I had never played a Control Warrior because I didn't have the cards, especially Grommash, but I opened a golden Grommash the other day. I love golden cards and think it looks pretty badass. Still not good with Control Warrior but has made the win X games with Warrior quests a lot easier and more fun.

Yea I'm still trying to find what style suits me best. I tried Druid a lot last night since I've been losing to it a lot lately. Didn't work out that great for me. I have the most fun with Priest though. The only class I haven't used all that much is warrior and and shaman. Control Warrior seems popular and I've been losing to shamans a lot too so probably gonna try those two today.

For me I started out as a Hunter because I mained it in WoW and just love everything about Hunters. Then I took up learning Miracle Rogue and that became something I really enjoyed. It's a strong deck with a unique playstyle and crafted two legendaries for it once I saw I liked it. I started last season around 15 with it and got as high as rank 3 five stars. This season I don't know, I've been hopping around different things. Priest is one of those classes that is a lot of fun, has lots of different combos and ways to play each turn. It also seems to have a higher skill-cap than some other classes where your plays are a little more obvious.

Having crafted some of the better neutral cards out there like Ragnaros, Faceless Manipulator x2, Azure Drake x2, etc I think it's time for me to start building towards one great go to deck. It seems like Druid is a pretty consistent deck. Also seems to suit my style best, getting powerful minions out there faster and lots of taunts to protect. I'm meh on Zoolock and don't really want to be like everyone else and pick Miracle Rogue. It looks like Freeze Mage is starting to make a comeback too, and I've always been a fan of Mage to be honest. Handlock is a pretty similar build as well, but druid looks more versatile to me.

Hey now, Miracle isn't that popular, at least not from my experience. I mean it is popular and strong but last season I ran into more Druids and Warlocks in the 5-1 range than Rogue. It's a little more popular at Legend though. Loatheb hasn't hurt Miracle as bad as many thought it would but the use of Sludge Belchers and Spectral Knights I think weaken it. I'm not sure if I'll keep using Miracle on the ladder or something else. I really loathe Zoo, don't like playing with it or against it. Might be a good idea to pick one main deck, round out the cards you need and just really learn that. Druid is pretty good, both Ramp and Token. I've only messed with Ramp a little, not much Token but will give it a spin one day.

edit: I haven't seen much Freeze Mage, I'd be surprised if it ever is played like it was at one time but could definitely be wrong. The reason being Loatheb of course but also have Spectral Knights which will be hard to deal with, plus there are more silences being run now so negates freezes/Doomsayers. The new Wailing Soul would be really great against Freeze Mage as well.
