You really get to see the impact that a little mis-direction has. Even on a well blocked play if Umenyiora doesn't hesitate to see if Wallace gets the ball on the end around, Miller is tackled for a loss or at best at the line of scrimmage. If Lazor is smart enough to make the QB run a credible threat, Miller should have quite a few similar opportunities this next season.

Yes sir, seems pretty apparent that this is why the read option is a smashing success in the NFL, and should continue to evolve. Making great athletes think before they react and explode..smart football to me, find a signal caller that can athletically beat you to the spot, your golden.
I remember watching it and thinking he shouldn't be trying to juke the remaining safety (Moore) and should have instead trusted in his speed to take off towards the right corner of the endzone and away from the safety and any pursuing players, who wouldn't have caught him IMO. The pictures from that article still make me think he would have had a TD if he had.
Bengals 3. Dolphins 0. 2nd Qtr. 10mins left on the clock. Watch THAT Miller run. One of the worst instinct runs I've seen for a long time. Had the whole left side to cut back into for a wide open TD. Miller decided to stick with his 2 blockers. Poor decision. Poor. That Miller run was the one that stuck out for me.
Miller has made some bad decisions on his chances so far, but he never had that problem at UM. His td against the Raiders in his rookie year was very decisive too. I don't think we've seen enough to determine that he's a poor open field runner, which seems to be the current thinking about him.
Yeah, I think that's actually the run I was remembering. It was wide open to the left. That would have been an easy TD.
Just re-watched it. He didn't mess up at all. http://www.nfl.com/videos/miami-dolphins/0ap2000000248568/Miller-49-yard-run As Miller bursts through the hole, #28 reads it and comes down to crack on Miller, who is forced to his left to avoid the tackle. As he straightens out after avoiding that tackle, it's #25 who has an angle on him. Pause the above video at 5 seconds or 29 seconds (better) to see it. Miller has two choices, turn hard right to try and outrun #25, who is slower but has the correct angle. If he does that, Samuel gets him anyway who is only trailing 2 yards behind but to the right and staying home in case Miller goes right. Option #2 is juke him and stay on that side, which is the best chance at a TD, the juke does work somewhat, but Samuel gets him anyway. If #25 falls and Miller heads that way,it's probably a TD unless #21 who looks fast gets him. I think Clay's assignment was to block #25 since you see him go straight to him, but #25 reads the play early enough to make his move. Miller gets there first no chance for a block.
