Why? I would not sign UD if he does not want to take vet min. He should retire and stick for a coaching job or something else.

Because the guy gave you $4.6 million dollars this year when he didn't have to.

it's bad business to screw your players out of $4.6 million. The League is watching.

Simply put...if UD doesn't return that $4.6mil...the Heat can't sign Luol Deng.

On top of taking roughly half of what the Mavericks offered him to stay in Miami on his last deal.

Wonder if LeBron will be back in Miami in 2016.

That's the danger if getting all angry at the man. It's not worth it. He's the best basketball player in the world and for all we know he could be back on the Heat within a couple of years. I mean if he got frustrated at the way Riley built the Heat around him when in fact Riley built a team that went to four straight Finals, imagine how frustrated he'll get in Cleveland.

If the Cavs miss the playoffs in either of the next two seasons, and/or don't get out of the first round of the playoffs...LeBron may start to re-think his strategy of returning to Cleveland and building a winner. He says Miami will always be his second home. I guess people aren't into the whole "taking someone's word at face value" thing but I believe him.

That's terrible. Now they will sign Haslem, who btw is done, he offers nothing, to a 3 year $8-9 mil, because they needed about $1.5 mil of that $4.6 mil to sign Deng. Wild stuff. smh.

I don't agree with that. Between LeBron's versatility and his basketball IQ, I think he'll continue to be the better asset.

Not to mention there are still ties that could draw LeBron back here whereas there are no connections with Durant.

The team is going nowhere without Wade. I am shocked that Bosh got a $120mil deal and Wade will get $60mil. That is insane. I am already hoping we can trade Bosh.
The talk of Cole being traded and Napier being kept is also insane. Napier sucks.
UD is done. They should hire him as a coach and give him $10 mil if they feel they owe him.

Wade is 32 and has played his career in a way that takes it's toll on his body. He has adjusted his game to become efficient, but is clearly on the downside of his career. Bosh is 30, and plays a finesse game that should keep him in his prime for at least another 3 years and he should be able to play at a high level well into his mid-30's. On the open market, Bosh was just offered a max deal from the Rockets. The best deal Wade would get is the one the Heat are reportedly offering him, if not less on the open market. I don't see how their deals are surprising.

Also, I find it a bit funny that you write off Napier as sucking after a handful of summer league games. I guess the Sixers and Jazz should have just cut their losses with Michael Carter-Williams, and Trey Burke last year after they sucked in the summer league.

I believe him as well, and I have no doubt in my mind Lebron wanted to go home and play in Cleveland. THE ONLY was I see Lebron not finishing his career as a Cav, is if Gilbert and crew just royally **** things up. Ive heard Wiggins is going to take a few years to come into his own, Kyrie Irving is young, Bron has what...5 more years of elite play? If they are putting pieces around him, and he still leaves in 2016, then he looks horrible.

Which is why Riley is doing everything he can to make us competitive until then. Keeps fans hungry...and couple that with new TV deal...I cant imagine Riley isnt already putting the pieces in motion for then.

Napier sucks now, he is disaster on defense and clueless on offense. Cole is more valuable than Napier, Cole is a better player. Cole should not be traded to make room for Napier. MCW has length, Napier does not. Burke is meh. Napier offers nothing for Heat next season. Napier should go overseas to polish his game and get stronger, and better at defense.

You can tell all of this based off of a few summer league games? What specifically do you see as Napier's struggles on defense other than "he sucks"? MCW has length but was horrible in the summer league last year, same with Burke. Yet, they finished the year 1st and 2nd in ROY voting.

I agree that you shouldn't move Cole based on simply having Napier, but if you can bring in a better PG than Cole I would be fine with trading him. I think it's way too early to say that Napier offers nothing to the Heat next season. He brings shooting and ball handling, and I think can become a good passer.

He's not a disaster on defense. He's just not timing a few things right which is hard because these guys haven't played together long at all. Almost every player plays bad defense in summer league.

He has had struggles for sure but his shot is getting better and so is his ball distribution. Last night you can basically take two misses off his stat sheet. One was a desperation three to beat the shot clock and another was the same but from nearly behind the backboard.

    He's coming along.

I fail to see how you pencil the Bulls in as the 1 Seed given that Gasol is going to be a disaster for their defensive system. He definitely won't cooperate with Thibs "45 minutes a game in February" crap. Result: they score more points, but give up more points, net zero difference.

Indy has collapsed and is set to lose one of their best players in Stephenson. This is a zombie franchise.

Cleveland has a better chance than either of getting the 1 Seed.

The dog fight is for seed positioning between those four teams.

Right, but that doesn't mean Napier sucks. You simply don't know what you're going to get yet with him. It would be way too risky to go into the season with just Chalmers and Napier at PG, and I don't see any way the Heat would do that, really. If you trade Cole, you have to bring someone else in.

Oh I agree. We all know that Napier has potential from March madness. even last night, you can see that he has some moves and quickness and handles the ball well. But that is potential.
No way would I trade Cole to free up $2 mil. Cole can run the offense, he is proven. And if they trade him who are they going to find for much less than $2 mil with contract expiring next year so that the trade is worth it?
And in addition, imo, I would not even carry Napier on the roster but would send him abroad, based on what I saw in Summer League.

Alright I can agree with this. Just didn't like him being labeled a bust or something. He definitely needs to bulk up and if we can find another PG or two SG I wouldn't mind him getting experience like Ennis did.

Right now though unless we add players his roster spot is secure.

I like Justin Hamilton but Section126 is right about there being too many bigs. That's why I had been asking Section if having Boozer, Bosh and McRoberts all here is too much, because you already have Hamilton and Birdman, likely Oden as well.

If the question comes down to Hamilton versus Boozer/Draft pick, I think you take the latter even if I do like how nicely Hamilton is coming along.

I think it depends for what. Maybe we wait until Boozer clears waivers and then trade him. Honestly if we just get a second round pick its kind of pointless because you just hope that pick is as good as Hamilton. Taking a second rounder is easier if you get Boozer.

JHam is just another guy. Heat can pick that up any year.

Will Deng simply slide into Lebron's roll of Spos offensive sets? Is Deng excited and looking forward to playing that kind of basketball after spending so many years in Bulls' offense?

Imo you go with whoever maximizes Chris Bosh, your best player. I think Bosh is best suited playing PF, not having to protect the rim or bang with 5s or be the leading rebounder. You're already going to need him as your leading scorer, and leading scorers never take on all of that load/dirty work in the NBA. It's a lot to handle when a team is playing more conventional ball which we expect the Heat to do with LeBron gone.

If you think Boozer can spell Bosh for long stretches, I hear that. He's a well-rounded offensive player and his wide frame is handy on the boards. He and Bosh are versatile enough to figure out how to play together and be effective, no doubt. I wouldn't be totally against going with Boozer. I just think the Heat are running a slight risk by pairing Bosh with too many PFs instead of true centers, and that going small is going to be harder to do without LeBron. Remember that lots of people thought Houston was an amazing fit for CB. Gotta put your studs in optimal situations.

I agree. Basketball is a win-now endeavor, and Boozer serves that better than Hamilton, who still probably needs a year to be quality bench.
