I don't know about you but I thought the tension latched on and never let go. The cat and mouse play was brilliance, and the job they did creating Paul was just... WHOA. As was job Jamie Dornan's acting job to bring him to life. The angle the show took with the serial killer genre was deep.... and enjoyfully disturbing. like it digs into your head and starts pulling on strings since we the viewers have typically established this perception that serial killers have gotta be thoroughly f***ed up individuals in every facet of their life... but then Paul Spector comes along and gives you 90% of his life that you can relate to- loving father & husband, takes his job seriously, and is an otherwise compassionate, intelligent, level-headed individual who seems to have feelings, morals, values, and an urge to protect the vulnerable. This guy could be my neighbor, my best friend, a close coworker, or hell- he could be me. Then that other 10% kicks in.

Haven't seen Jack Taylor yet but I have it saved on my IMDB watch list. Since you like the The Fall and Top of the Lake, you'd probably dig Broadchurch and Utopia for a pair of other foreign shows. Both should have season 2 coming up soon.

Yeah, 'The Fall' is definitely a different sort of animal as a serial-killer drama. It reminds me some of 'American Psycho', although that character was way more far gone psychologically than Paul Spector. The most chilling thing about Paul is that he is normal in every way, even emotionally—right up until he isn't. Much more compartmentalized than any serial killer ever portrayed, except (possibly) for Hannibal Lecter.

The other parallel with Lecter is that, unlike most serials IRL and in fiction, Paul has no desire to be caught; in fact, he has a strong desire not to be caught nor discovered. And he doesn't play cat-and-mouse with the police at all; totally self-contained.

I have 'Broadchurch' DL'd and I watched the first ep, but left it alone for a while since. It was awfully depressing.

What is 'Utopia'? I believe I've heard or read something about it at some point but I've totally forgotten.

Here's the opening scene of the show. You'll likely know from watching it whether or not you'll be hooked. It's pretty dark and gripping, like Fargo dark.... if not darker. Here's the plot summary: "The story follows a small group of people who find themselves in possession of the manuscript sequel of a cult graphic novel called "The Utopia Experiments" which is rumoured to have predicted the worst disasters of the last century. This leads them to be targeted by an organisation known as 'The Network', which they must avoid to survive. Using the manuscript, they must uncover the meaning hidden in its pages before the disasters depicted become reality."

I'm really digging 'Jack Taylor'. Iain Glen is phenomenal in the title role; so different from his role in GoT.

I haven't read the novels, but the show is well-paced, well-acted and compelling enough to keep going back for more. Interesting concept, how they've produced it; it's essentially a series of 1.5-hr "movies" each about one of the stories. I've watched the first two and loved them. There are six so far, probably with more coming.

Good Gods is True Blood horrendous. For 2 seasons, this was a good show. It is utter sh!t. Last season, trying to plug along, but its not easy.

I watched both seasons. I just lost a bit of interest towards the end of season 2, despite the subject matter picking up. It's also hard to watch when that runs along with Game of Thrones on my dr. Not bad, not great.

I'm not really sure if you can find it. I had to watch it on Project Free TV. Well worth the watch.... enough so to be a priority viewing.

I watched the first few episodes of s1, but just couldn't get into it. It was ok, but I had enough other shows I was watching at the time and it wasn't one that gripped me enough to keep on the "roster".

I gave up on it half way through the last season, really didn't want to as used to enjoy it, but REALLY couldn't watch it any longer, it's utter pants compared to what it used to be.

Another predictable, hideous True Blood episode.

On another note: anyone catch The Leftovers? Pretty interesting, although it was annoying that the past 8 months of teasers and previews filled 80% of this first episode.

Anybody watch Power on Stars? The one good thing about it, is it doesn't shove .50 cents sh!tty music down your throat for 60 minutes. I'm not sure why I'm watching otherwise. It's really not good at all.

Just read through a list with synopsis of 54 new shows coming this fall. Saw maybe 3 three that I'm willing to give a shot, but none that struck me as must watch. Looks like it may get darker before the dawn with TV for me :pity:

Anyone watch American Muscle on Discovery, about a strength and conditioning outfit in Detroit? Richard Sherman and Suh were big name participants thus far. It's okay. Some of the regulars are a bit annoying...but worth watching.

I know some of you complain about there not being enough good comedic stuff, so with that in mind has anyone finally gotten around to watching Misfits, The Inbetweeners, and Party Down yet? Dropping some golden nuggets on you guys and you're letting slip right by. :pity:
